You couldn't have said this better, Magi. I literally cannot agree more. The economic system is not only baffling but in reality would probably fall apart in the real world. Imagine all the elves just... stopped wanting to work. Everything would stop, and they wouldn't have motivation to start again because they have the money they need (until they inevitably run out, since they're immortal and however many million whatchamacallems would only last so long--but then how are they supposed to get more if they don't actually earn it?). I also agree with the statement about the gnomes. Not only are they workers, they're marginalized. During the plague, all the council did was try to cover it up, not help. And the biases towards humankind is INSANE. Humans seem to be viewed as this terrible, disgusting, monstrous race of not-so-intelligent life intent only on destroying each other, incapable of good. Which isn't true, obviously, but I digress. I also do not believe that Shannon had any ill intent with incorporating these elements, but the worldbuilding does seem a bit shallow in these ways. I wanted her to go deeper, to explore more between the actual relationship of elves and humans, explain more about WHY things are the way they are, give the characters better arcs (because let's be honest fitz was great material and then he just kinda... ya know)--not that they all have to be morally improving, but to have so many characters with a blatantly morally degrading arc and still glorifying them as the heroes is kinda silly to me. This is just the tip of the iceberg with my thoughts on this, but I do want y'all to know there's a lot about this series I do like! It's just refreshing to finally be able to talk about some of the flaws I see with someone who shares the same views.

i agree with this!!! i feel like after Neverseen (just like you said), the plot (in my brain, at least) started to kinda fall apart. I got pretty lost around Legacy, and I was also confused at why Shannon would interrupt the series to write 8.5 instead of saving it for the end, since i’m sure we’ll learn more in the next books that she may have wanted to include in 8.5. The series definitely has become more romance-heavy, but I would personally be okay with that if it wasn’t bogging the plot down. As for Stellarlune, the plot really slows down in that one, and it’s basically Sophie trying to figure out how to get somewhere important to the Neverseen while also figuring out her romantic feelings. Disclaimer: that is definitely not all it is, but that’s the majority of what i remember, thus what i found to be the most important/prevalent aspects of the novel. i both agree and disagree with your keefe statement. Personally, i’m going to continue reading the series because i’ve come this far, and i’d like to see how it ends. plus, i want to continue to support shannon since i’m an aspiring author myself and want to do my best to support other authors. this is especially because she clearly knows how to write if she can just solidify plot before she jumps in. that’s my personal opinion, and i hope nobody is offended as i’m not aiming to be mean or rude. thanks for letting me share!

okay so i have a predicament
i'm currently outlining my first book in Harlow
and it's WAY more romance-heavy than the rest of the series
like the main series is basically about war and genocide and the apocalypse
but the main character gets involved in the whole thing because of a whole romance that happens
BUT
i feel like if i marketed the first book as the first book, readers might be like "oh this is a romance series" (spoiler alert, it's NOT)
but what if i marketed it as a prequel? do you think that would kinda change the way the series is regarded? cuz like i don't want people to think the whole series is only romance
the first book is just very romance-heavy because that's just the antagonists' original plan is through a romance cuz like
love
but yeah the rest of the series mainly focuses on hadley tryna save her people and then eventually everyone else trying to save each other and the apocalypse and fire and wahahahaha

@Thaidakar the Ghostblood oh yeah it stays very relevant and is brought up pretty frequently. my only problem is if potential readers (readers that would like the other books but aren't rlly into romance) get turned off to my series before it even really starts. i don't know if making Vendetta into a prequel would kind of widen my potential range of readers or if it wouldn't really do anything. i do know i'll be making Vendetta into some book or other, because it's crucial information for understanding a lot of what happens next in the series, but do you think making it a prequel would kinda keep readers' minds more open to what the rest of the series might be like, or do you think that's even possible?

also the ice cream guy asked me if my scars (see below) were real hehehe

i was like “nah they’re fake” (it’s literally just lip liner, eyeshadow, and concealer. that’s all it is)
and he was like “oh. i was like ‘were you in iraq too’ cuz that was some gnarly [bleep]”
and i was like “nope”
and he gave me my ice cream and asked if it was enough lol and it was PLENTY and he was just super chill
a bunch of other people said they liked my makeup/outfit too
this little girl came up to me and was like “i like your cosplay ma’am” and it was maybe the cutest thing ever
i also shot a bow and arrow and got stuck in a castle built for little children and saw SO MANY THINGS I WANTED TO BUY BUT COULDNT. GRR.
also it has been confirmed that i spotted cheesie (@The cheeseman) across the way

2 hours ago in the enchanted forest
i was by a fence on the other side of the pond
and it felt like someone was looking at me and i turned and saw a guy on the other side in the enchanted forest section thing with your hair and gauntlets and you were with a redhead girl in a white dress
and “you” were wearing sunglasses
i’m wearing brown trousers and a shirt with white baggy sleeves and a floral bodice and have a giant scar going down my face and neck and also one on my shoulder
also brought my sword, had a satchel, brown knee-high boots, long hair

i didn’t get to sleep until like 2:30 cuz we drove an hour or so north to go see the lights (which is crazy we could even see them from NE but like not complaining—)
and my head hurts and i feel so hot but i don’t care cuz i’m GOING TO THE REN FAIRE TODAY WHETHER I LIKE IT OR NOT
i took some vitamins, and some painkillers, and drank some water and brewed myself a coffee so i don’t fall asleep today but yep
my friend is coming in like an hour

and it kinda walked me through how to set up a plot outline for my book
and i think i’m FINALLY ready to start writing
(also the book is excellent, 10/10 recommend. it’s completely free on the Dabble website, you can download it as a pdf, which is what i did and it’s been great)
