What resonance do mistborn/feruchemists/fullborn have?
IlstrawberrySeed replied to kroen's question in Cosmere Q&A
Is there concensous on what happens if a mistborn never learns of or uses metals past 2? Does the resonance of those metals surface? Or what happens to the resonance of a twinborn who starts burning lots of shardmetals? -
The question asked if he was refering to a shard, which doesn't neccessarily mean it's name. Aditionally, Shard names are capitalized, and these aren't. Another WoB stated that "Prudence" sounds more like a shard name than "Wisdom." I personally think that wisdom is the name of the intent (at least as Hoid sees it).

I like mercy as endowmnets opposite, but I still think mercy fits better with odium and endowment's is one of the mystery shards or named but not intent-ed shards like invention. I understand that. For a TTRPG, I would like to try to get the best segments together. The issue with these is that names aren't intent. We actually know little about many of the shards intents, only their names, but we know that pres is more stasis like Lego Moviem and ruin is more entropy than destruction (though it does lean that way). Aditionally, while honor is about the word, the typical "Honor" is a mix of trustworthyness and morals. And as alder said, Cultivation isn't creation, but actually guided growth, such as through trimming for plants. All of these seem to be tangental to the typical definition of the word, which is part of why it's hard to pick opposites. However, I do like VvA, but I doubt anxiety is one of the large shards. Keep in mind that if you mix every intent, etc, of a person together, you get what the 16 shards together are, and you can split the 16 shards into more fundamnetal pieces. Ruin might split into destruction, chaos, and assimilation. (I stuggled to come up with a third, that's more likely dominion based on name alone.) I'll keep this in mind for wisdom/prudence. My guess is that wisdom is actually the intent, not the name or vessel. Thanks to all of you.

They were saying half of the following, so I won't really say much on defending that part. Also sorry for the delay, I didn't get a notification, or it faded. What I said was 2 things. If Atium and Malatium mistings exist, then is isn't that Preservation swapped metals in the magic, but rather that who the mists were snapping was changed. If a mistborn had bendalloy during era 1, they could have burned it. Atium and Malatium mistings might not exist, and they could be electrum and gold mistings. Based on your replies, we know that 2 is false, but 1 still holds. This is a really juicy theory. I don't think this is what identity contamination is, but I do think that this aspect of perception is important.

I guess. We could do something like a sponge on a stick, and pulling the trigger slams it into a grate above the spores. Still not great, definetly worse than a screw in dropper, but it is what it is. Midnight essence isn't actually necessarily all that expensive. Hollow the handle and fill it with water. Pulling the trigger allows you to touch the water at the same time a single midnight spore is wet, and a silver thing cuts the black line after the .2 seconds required to get the ME to move a drop of water. The real question is how expensive it is to get ME to move water without absorbing it, compared to moving a simple object.

I didn't realize he was so happy to be apart from nightblood, which kindof throws that theory out of the window, the window, the second story window.

Wow. Lots of posts to read. And I didn't even need F-electrum. Hopefully this reply doesn't die like last time I had a long response like this. I'm not so sure. Both burning shardmetals and sharspikes spikes are universal, so I doubt that shardminds can actually be made, and I'd expect that if they can, anyone can. There was a minor error in my calculation that I'll fix in a bit, but theres also the stuff we have to add to it. Can't you just use your fingernail? Possibly. I personally expect there to be overlap between powers due to the number of powers required if all are separate. Also, I don't believe shard metals are "feruchemically" viable. (They're not really allomantically viable either, it's a separate magic. Also see above.) It could be that there is one that simply stores everything at once at the same rate. It might even be something like "existence" or "being." Can you like something for me the see the original discussion> There has definetly been more discussion on this since this post, so this isn't a direct reply, but I personally expected that connection is only required to recognize it's a shard metal on the metaphysical side. If you can get around that, perhaps by knowledge, you don't need conection. Assuming it isn't a retcon, or based on identity, both of which I actually like more than my initial position. I disagree. See the 1st and last quotes and replies. Cartiladge? Even if higher shard metals or shard alloys are un-alloyable, that still puts it at (16 shards)(16 metals)(17+ alloys) + (16 base metals) + (16 shard metals). That already over triple that, and one reason I think duplicate powers are likely. But investiture isn't all the same. Sure, most of the stuff like Identity is going to be the same, but the connections, especially to various dimensions (of spacetime) and your body. I think the first one I saw saying something like that was different. Could be wrong, its been awhile. Both theories seem viable. I personally think it is the same, but the spike never looses "containment" investiture that doesn't come from the donor, but rather Ruin. I agree. The spike isn't sticky, but I'd say the containment investiture would be sticky, and so while the hemalurgic charge would be fleeting through the containment, the containment investiture, which is what doesn't go away via half life, would be sticky, and may not leave easily. It would effect everyone on the battlefeild though, unless your facing scadrians. I suspect that roshar shall use this Era 3/4. I think my first post (not reply) was on this. Concensous seemed to be unknown, but likely, and not sure wether breaths grow in size, number, or both. I disagree. To get a high-power magic system, it requires significant investing into the system. On Scadrial, it requires putting more in than other systems due to the lack of Adinalstic created matter and souls. However, that doesn't mean it requires a significant chunk of investiture to be in the avatar - there isn't a limit like 50% invested. It might cause the avatar to barely be able to do anything, but I doubt it, at that point it would start to create lower power forgery/aviar style magic. Also, while I believe that Shard + Avater > Shard > Avatar due to the extra ability to comprehend part of infinity the shard technically has access to. Either immagrants or originally made in the system by Ado. I disagree, as the investiture isn't really present in force. As worldhoppers settle, it will start to dilute, but I doubt it is that much of a dilutint. I don't know that WoB says that so directly, and I feel like it's more likely to create hybrid breaths that work very similarly to breaths, the same way that hybrid lights work similarly to the individuals. I don't think it would flush it that much. I'd say the majority on non-magical non-connection sections of the soul are still Adinalstic soup, but the magic and connections would shift towards the shard/s in the system, but not nearly enough for anything important to change. That is frightening. I hope my players never read this... I actually doubt preseration could corupt much investiture at all on purpose. Using pres based magic to corupt is different, and might be what happens when you burn breathminds. I doubt it. There is no max on the amount of physical investiture you can have, but there is a cap on the connection you have with a shard. Very True. Technically also savant level. Perhaps a link?

This is the simplest way to do it. Keep in mind not all of the commands are known at all, and even fewer are widely known. Brandon Suggests there is a way to give only some of your breaths with a command.

I wonder if Vasher's method of consuming stormlight could be the boon for the curse of leaving Nightblood behind. This would fit with the "Seth could get access to it" since he doesn't have a boon yet.

How Allomantic Metals work Realmatically
IlstrawberrySeed replied to Walter The Moral's topic in Cosmere Discussion
Iron and Steel: We know that when strongest, it's most like fundamental forces. Connection is often theorized as the lines, but I disagree since the lines can be stored/stoled in tinminds/spikes, rather than with durilium. I haven't though about Tin or Pewtar much - they seem strait forward, but realmatically it isn't as clear. Could definitely be. Interesting, for Zink/Brass. I agree with copper, but I think bronze detects tones given off by kinetic investiture (as well as strengthining ambient tones). Gold is pretty solidly Fortune, but it is unclear if it gives you a sense as well or not. Electrum is also Fortune, but Fortune Keyed to the future rather than the past future. Cadmium and Bendalloy have to do with gravity, in some way, though I don't have the WoB on hand. Aluminum and Chromim gets rid of kinetic investiture, then also does something to metals. These are separate effects, and he hasn't decided (or released) exactly what happens to the metals. (@alder24, I justify the difference between Breaths and PresSeed as the fact that Breaths are partially physical, while the Seed of Preservation is only Spiritual). I have a very niche/contraversial opinion on what Durilium and Necrosil do. How I see it, (explaining like only allomancy exists) each Allomancer has a little bit of investiture flowing to them that is keyed to one of the metals they can burn. The amount of this investiture is based on your strength (allomantic strength and savant level) in said metal, and can be used to "burn" the metal it's keyed to. Burning pulls investiture into the PR keyed to the effects the metal has. Durilium and Necrosil's investiture is keyed to rekey itself to the initial "burn metal X" investiture. (With the side note that Durilium doesn't do Durilium, and Necrosil might not either, or might not burn Necrosil.) It's more complex than I make it out here, due to other magic systems, fuel, etc; but the basic idea is here. I really should just make a post, so I can just put the link. Atium is actually Nalatium, an alloy of pure atium and elecgtrum. We don't know exactly what P-atium does Realmatically, but it lets you see into the SR directly. It could be fortune, a sence, a mix, or even simply peircing the realms. However, in the Hathsinian alloy of Nalatium, (There are 17+ alloys, though that could have been non-allomantic or all have the same effect) the electrum keys the effects of the P-Atium to be shadows of the future (same with gold, malatium/11th, and the past). Somehow, the P-Atium is focused outward, or the internal directness of gold/electrum has deconstructive interference with P-atium. We know practically nothing about Lerasium. What we know was a side effect, and could be it's ambient thing, like Rasdium's investiture pump or (hemalurgically charged, possible alloy) trellium's investiture repulsion. -
Precicely the concern I was bringing up, though I hadn't heard of CMYK before. This is what I was suggesting, but isn't pointlessly complex enough. Prettymuch. Note that I know longer think this (better ideas have since been posted) but for clarity's sake, Balls matching one and three are in the same square - if you match it with a "2" ball - 50 points Balls matching one and four are in the same square - matching with "2" or "3" - 25 points (since there is no "center") Balls matching two and six are in the same square - if you match with "3" or "5" - 0 points, but matching with "4" - 50 points (because it's "center") I DO suggest the points being a uselessly complex mathmatical formula based on the tile it's in, colors used, and multi-splitting (ex, if balls 1, 3, & 4 are in a square, then ball 7 would split 1/3 & 1/4. [but gets -50 from opposite], but also constitures the mix of all 3). I'll think on one, but a uselessly complex math formula seems more complex than a bunch of case rules.

Elantrian Computer Program
IlstrawberrySeed replied to Trusk'our's topic in Elantris and Emperor's Soul
Why do it that way, when you can simply get an elantrian to draw you a program that allows this pen to draw aons. Then use that pen to make the programs and sell them back. -
Harmonium-Trellium Bullets
IlstrawberrySeed replied to IlstrawberrySeed's topic in Cosmere Discussion
I didn't realize it was that high (though it could be a fictional unit, he tends to do that more in other Cosmere worlds than Scadrial). Between necromancy and Tress spoilerboxing, I figured it was better to just make a post here. True. I addressed the requirement of electricity briefly - if it's already hot enough, little electricity should be required. Ah, didn't know they were massive. I was simply thinking of the things like hand-powered flashlights. Very well. I don't know that the temp and electric limits are that big of a deal, if the sunlight spores could be concentrated enough for the harmonium. Insulate it a little, and because the electricity doesn't have to heat it, less is required. The size is the biggest issue. -
The first 2 lines I quoted contradict the 4th line, and same with the last 2. I wanted to suggest that the mixing is based on the section orientation -> Yellow and pink make peach, while opposites make nothing (2 directions) and even distances have 2 options (yellow and red make orange or peach) rather based on actual color combination, as mixing with different mediums produces different effects.
-
Lightsong's quote could be a sign that only perfect color sight can see the leeching of color - as it's practically nothing, and the drab certainly doesn't have PCS.

Alcatraz in Roshar... What if?
IlstrawberrySeed replied to Darth Kholin's topic in Alcatraz Versus the Evil Librarians
Are we sure? Their described as "Energy coming off your soul set to a specific tune." Based off of RoW tone shenanagins, and the fact that souls are investiture, it sounds like their talents are just investiture effected by the specific tone they have. Oculatory glass works the same way, using a different tone to change the function. -
Completing Kazan’s List
IlstrawberrySeed replied to Archer's topic in Alcatraz Versus the Evil Librarians
Actually, a higher SA/V ratio causes someone to be colder and more cold-blooded, as you loose/absorb heat based on surface area and make it based on volume. Hence why babies are so sensitive to cold temperatures.- 33 replies

A new theory about iron feruchemy
IlstrawberrySeed replied to Thorneater's topic in Cosmere Discussion
Wouldn't it? As soon as it splits the skin, the frame of reference of the bullet is the body, and therefore inducted into higher mass. -
Harmonium-trellium reactions is the second or third most powerful explosion in the known Cosmere, (after anti-investiture and same type anti-investiture). The issue is getting the Harmonium in the bullet into the proper state to be split. I believe sunlight spores provide the answer. While the heat won't get it into the state on it's own, it reduces the electrical requirement, and can provide the electricity via heat conversion. That brings the 3 big questions. Is this accurate, How big is the smallest bullet, and What are your critiques?
-
It's basically the same as the cartridge, but the water and spores aren't attached to the bullet. That is a concern, And I didn't think of the clogging. However, I've been working hard to avoid putting a hole - the sunlight spores melt the wax through a glass/rosite section, not by lighting a fuse. A dropper would work, and those shouldn't be too hard to get from worldhoppers, but hard to make in world. You could use midnight essence or a few breaths, but that is expensive or finiky. We could use a wet barrel and dump spores in, but again, that's either complex or not airtight. Unfortunately, with the gumming issue, I think we either need barrel covers that you pull out each time or to just use a non-airtight method. (Dropping the sunlight spores all together.)

I'm making a cortex game, and want the values to be paired shards. I want the one with more positive connotation as the actual title, but want to suggest the similar-but-opposite to be valued at the inverse die size. Also, I don't think that Pres/Ruin is a great example of opposites because of how perfectly opposite they are. I suspect less perfect opposites can be found. I'm quite positive that it's possible to come up with a pairing that will work.

A new theory about iron feruchemy
IlstrawberrySeed replied to Thorneater's topic in Cosmere Discussion
Ah. And how exactly would storing momentum instead help? It could be that they thin k it stores mass, when it actually stores mass and momentum, and the magic delta mass doesn't effect the magic delta momentum and vice versa.
