  1. "Jane. Jane Cora Rae." She started boiling water for the tea. "Do you mind showing me around your home?"
  2. Jane looked about the tea bags. "Do you like peppermint, Miss?" Jane asked. She didn't know her name, and neither did the elderly woman. But "Miss" felt alright. Almost... young.
  3. "Would you like tea? I might make myself some," Jane said. Then she paused, "If that's alright with you."
  4. Jane stood up, looking around the dim room. "This is a fine home you have here," Jane said smiling, as she glanced about, walking around the edges.
  5. "Oh!" Jane opened her fist again, for longer, "A penny. For your thoughts. Have you heard of that phrase?" She had gotten so much farther, yet so behind. More was clarified, leaving her more confused. In other words, Jane was lost. Why does a cottage exist here? And why is this woman occupying it?
  6. "Okay, I want to know if you've met the gamemakers yet." Jane lowered her voice and leaned in just slightly. There was a twinkle in her eye, almost a test. In one hand, she made a fist holding the small coin that she subtly flashed at the woman.
  7. "Isn't that precious," Jane said in a soothing tone, "Now, I want to ask you something, and I need you to try to tell me the truth. Is that alright?" Truth was so hard to find nowadays.
  8. Jane came closer. She didn't want to, no- her own hands were trembling. She had more... important things to focus on. But this cottage could buy her time. Or it could take it from her. For some reason, this elderly woman held the answer. "Is this a scarf?" Jane nodded towards the crochet in the woman's hands as she sat down near enough to her.
  9. "Do you remember your name?" she asked. Not because the woman was elderly. But because it was difficult to remember a name. Especially your own.
  10. Jane almost stepped back as she felt chills run down her spine. However, she mustered a smile. "How long have you been here?" she asks gently, with a hushed voice. Although every nerve in her body protested, she carefully made her way closer to the old woman.
  11. Jane relaxed slightly, but then her heartbeat spiked again. Delilah had done this when Jane was just eight. Her older sister's talent allowed her to always torment Jane, yet never be chastised by their parents. Delilah's close, yes. But she wouldn't be hiding here. Not like this. It would be more... painful. Jane quietly stepped inside, peering around the cottage. Her eyes fell on @Edema Rue [description ?]. "My name is Jane Cora Rae," she said in a very whispery, light voice... almost preoccupied as she glanced about the room.
  12. YAYY yess i feel good vibes for the next few months it'll only get warmer
  13. Jane was cautious to see if anyone was near. Option A: no one occupied it, so she could use the cottage as a safehome. Option B: someone occupied it, and that individual was kind and would help her. Option C : someone occupied it, and that individual wanted to harm her. The odds were 2:1. What a chance. If there was one thing about Jane Cora Rae, it's that she hated games of luck. But nevertheless, one hand on her dagger, she knocked on the door.
  14. this'll be a fun year for u im channeling it
  15. Jane stopped. "Aaron?" She called. She looked back to where he had been, seeing his footsteps just stop. Then she glanced at the house, only a minute or so away. "Aaron!" She called louder, more desperate. Then she creeped around the forrest, trembling hand almost glued to her dagger. Heart beating faster, she quickened her pace and approached the house. @Edema Rue

  18. As Jane walked through the bushes to reach the house, she turned back occasionally to check on Aaron, who was following with his makeshift crutches. @Weaver of Lights
  19. You have a true gift for writing, that's for sure
  20.  I NEED TO STOP DOING THIS IK 😭

i'm here for good now... but just to fill you in on the last few days

we were on vacation in caribbean islands and i actually got stranded on a small island (a cay) with 3 other members of my family (my parents and a sibling).

    it was just us.

our boat that was taking us on a "tour" of the waters had left us abandoned there.

and as we were walking around the island's coast to call for help, my dad had the brilliant idea of walking alongside an area with sharp rocks.

so of course, with my bad luck, i sliced my foot open on one of them.

my dad, my brother and I didn't have shoes, but my mom had flip flops, so i sat there, crumpled, holding my foot, and simply asking her to give me her shoes.

i could tell they were freaking out so i told them not to worry as i slipped on the flip flops, but oh my there was quite a bit of blood.

and we walked on the sand, away from the rocks, but every time i stepped the sand would get bloodier.

there was no medical assistance in sight.

and there was no boat in sight.

    no people.

this was so traumatizing and it was very painful but then we finally got a boat to bring us back to where we were staying and i properly bandaged my foot there. but long story short, this whole accident is what has kept me from coming back to the shard in so long.

  21. fell upon this page... and read through many of these... i have no words, eddie. none. or at least, none that would be of any significance after having read your writing but i have some high, high respect for you, i'll assure you that.
  22. "We can always take a break. Y'know. To catch our breath." Jane swung her pack over her shoulder and briefly scanned around the area to make sure nothing was left behind. Her hand quickly checked the right side pocket of her high-waisted rough denim cargo pants, which she had been doing quite frequently over the last few days. Once she confirmed that she had everything, she nodded and began walking off into the distance. She had to inspect the structure. It was hidden my the trees and smoke came from it's chimney. It seemed sweet. Cheery, even. Almost like that old tale... Hansel and Gretel, was it? Perhaps that was the source of the men's screams. (@Edema Rue correct me if I misremember any of the description)
  23. "Nah, you would've been fine," Jane swatted the air playfully and winked. "Do you think you'd be able to follow me? Just over to that rooftop there," Jane nodded to the clay tiled rooftop that she had spotted earlier (@Edema Rue?).
  24. Once he reached her, she held his arms to stabilize him. "You okay?"
  25. "Okay, okay try walking..." She ran back a few feet, "To me."
