  1. "I hope not to leave too soon," she shrugged, and held her hands out to the fire for warmth.
  2. "I haven't forgotten our conversation thus far, if that helps you in any way."
  3. "Your talent?" Jane asked gently.
  4. Her eyes widened, "You're no child of the capital, then." Unfortunately, at the same time his words hurt her. He had done nothing to offend her, but still, something stung. 'People also tend to forget about me.' Until they want you dead. Then you become quite important.
  5. "Where you come from- do they not do so?"
  6. "Oh. Was I staring?" Jane looked away, "Sorry."
  7. "I am. I'm just..." She broke eye contact for a moment, then caught her falter and looked back up, "Just managing expectations. For all of us." "Note that I said try. I will not kill myself easily for you."
  8. "We will, I'm sure. Still, I will keep that to last resort. In that case, I give you full permission to try to kill me. It will be harder for you and Kaza to kill each other, I'm sure. It's safer for me here, though. Enjoy yourself. Let us preserve the ties we can, and sever those that matter less. It's only a matter of time."
  9. "I was aware; so was my reply," Jane said with a light smile. "I think it is in both our interests to stay alive."
  10. "I forgive you," Jane said, and pursed her lips slightly. "I'm sure," She said, lightly nodding her head downwards while keeping her eyes on him. He had Aspen's spirit. But she had thought that about Delilah. And look how wrong she was then. "Jane Cora Rae." She had memorized those words for years now.
  11. Jane smiled gently, looking at him with cold, emotionless eyes. She turned to the other (Sharpo). "If I may not have your name, I ask of you, let me call you by something or other. 'Po.'"
  12. "I am well-rested, but may tend to your fire."
  13. "I suppose you wouldn't like to return to sleep with a new comer amongst you."
  14. "None at all. The Hunger Games seem to be a quite serious event, unfortunately. Many killed already."
  15. Jane sighed, "I would never simply hurt you. Inflicting a wound and not death makes no action, and a feeble threat. So. many loose ends, so little protection. It is a rash act, isn't it? Hurting someone. Or perhaps, it is a terribly cruel one. It all comes down to power." Her eyes darkened. After a moment, she walked closer to them, her eyes softened again. "But no, I will not hurt you. If I were to kill you, you would hardly have the time to kill me afterwards, I assure you. Death does make one busy." She shrugged. "But like I said, this is how our world works. I can be useful to you. You can be useful to me. Fighting at the moment will do no good for either of us."
  16. "That is how one improves," Jane remarked cooly, "Trying one's best and failing. It sets a fire in one's eyes."
  17. "He could've given me something. This is how our society works." "Is the world this twisted?" Jane muttered. "I simply came offering supplies because I've realized that human beings tend to care more about what they can get out of others than who that particular person is. It was a question bound to be asked, so I answered it. Saves my time, and yours. Why else would you want to engage with me? You only wouldn't kill me if you knew you could get something from me. So I said it. I came, telling you that I had something you'd need. An assurance of my safety, and assertion of my peace."
  18. "I didn't. I bandaged and stilted his wounds." Jane kept a cold tone. He must've killed Aaron. "He disappeared without me," She scowled at them. "And I don't need to save my family." "I highly advice you to stop doing that. I used to. Instincts tend to be wrong, really." "I cannot offer a trade. Not yet. I don't know what I need, nor what you have." Her eyes glazed over. "I have little information, and while I hope you have more, I doubt many of us do." She looked back up at them, eyes softening. "Which is why I ask you." Her hand loosened on her dagger. "What are your names?"
  19. Jane froze. Aaron was dead? "No."
  20. "You can't." Jane said through a grimace, shrugging helplessly.
  21. Jane nodded. "I have medical supplies." She offered, still keeping her hand defensively on the hilt of her dagger by her belt.

(yes the song is about cheating but. it gives off good energy.)

    1. Edema Rue

      Edema Rue

Ahhhh spring is so fun!! My house smells like dirt because we're planting, and it's finally warm enough that I don't need to wear jackets every day, and WE'RE SO STORMING CLOSE TO FREEDOM but not quite there, and aahhhhhh spring is amazing.

  23. "Hi-" Jane looked at the two of them, crouched before her. "I... I didn't mean to interrupt your sleep." She glanced around again, eyes falling on Sharpo's pocket knife. "What district are you two from?"
  24. @justice magician Jane reached the clearance, her eyes widening underneath her cloak. "Hello."
  25. Jane froze. A human. She clutched her hand into a fist. Or a wildfire. Quiet or chaos? War or peace? Blood or wine? Battle or death? Where was the olive branch when she needed it most? Or perhaps was this a sign of her own desperation? Jane rummaged through her pack and threw her cardigan over her head like a cloak, darkening her eyes under the shadow of the cloth yet still enabling her to see her surroundings. There are no words for the sickness of the mind. I can never escape my own. Obsession. Jealousy. Anger. Pain. Burning and crying and stabbing my mind to let those voices leave. Let me leave through my tears and the flame. Jane walked towards the smoke, carefully pushing away branches and twigs in the dark of the forest. She had to reach whoever awaited her there. (She's walking towards the fire that @justice magician made right?) Spinning I can never tell if you're killing me or is this world or is it me, and has it always been. Glass crashing bleeding screaming tears and blood on the ground where I walk ever so peacefully. Guiltlessly. How can you be so innocent as I stand here trembling. A psychopathic painful twisted and ill person breaking this world and still I need you always. You made me like this. Not me. You. And I still can never claw my way out of my mind. Never.
