  1. I defeat your Yoshi with a feathered dinosaur and, riding on its back, pursue NerdSandwich.
  2. I was just reminded why I dislike romantasy novels.
No further context will be forthcoming.

That last one was a lie.

Why did someone, over a month later, just give me rep for a vaguepost I made in response to being immensely disappointed by my read of Gideon the Ninth?

  3. And yet all I can think of is the pre-1.13 Minecraft modpack.
  4. I steal the Snadwich from Ink and Embers through methods that, if revealed, would compromise our agents in the field.
  5. Note that in TLM, a massively overkill Rioting fueled by pure Investiture isn't enough to break into Entrone's spiritweb, even though he's been spiked four times (yes, he does have a Trellium spike, but that shouldn't matter with regards to pure spiritweb damage). Your spiritweb would need to be substantially more screwed up than just having experienced massive trauma for it to be open to Allomantic mind control.
  6. He's compressed time so much inside his bubble that the speed of light outside is comparable to Wayne's normal movement speed inside. He's not technically going FTL because the speed of light inside the time bubble has increased by the same factor; however, to an outside observer, Wayne would be going close to lightspeed (F-Steel and A-Pewter would make him go faster, but the effect would be negligible compared to the massive time dilation). Technically not all the way there because electricity still travels outside of the bubble.

  8. "Doesn't matter, I'm still holding all the cards! And every one is a full house. Never played cards before, been meaning to learn." "Alright, I've been thinking. When life gives you lemons, don't make lemonade. Make life TAKE THE LEMONS BACK! GET MAD! I don't want your [REDACTED] lemons, what am I supposed to do with these? Demand to see LIFE'S MANAGER! Make life RUE THE DAY it thought it could give CAVE JOHNSON LEMONS! DO YOU KNOW WHO I AM? I'M THE MAN WHO'S GONNA BURN YOUR HOUSE DOWN! WITH THE LEMONS! Gonna get my engineers to invent a COMBUSTIBLE LEMON that'll BURN YOUR HOUSE DOWN!!!" - Sun Tzu, The Art of War
  9. I personally would like to pour one out for the old contact info with your AIM and MSN handles. I also still get tripped up when I'm trying to get to Forum Games because I remember when it was nested under General Discussion.
  10. RJB summary dump time! If you've just read the first book in a given series, you can open the spoiler for the series, since the book summaries are contained in nested spoilers. The boxes for each series are just there to save space. Founders trilogy Shadow of the Leviathan (I cannot wait until book 3) Mr. Shivers American Elsewhere
  11. *checks notes*
I am currently using a series of convoluted tactics to access 17th Shard for the purpose procrastinating on reading House of Leaves, which I'm reading to put off finishing Gardens of the Moon, which I am reading to avoid finding a recipe for cheddar and scallion scones, which, were I looking that recipe up, I would be doing to avoid preparing for the event that I need to make the scones for.

    ADHD go brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.

Gardens of the Moon is a good book. I liked it.

  12. I don't interrupt the duel, because that would be rude. I continue reading House of Leaves.
  13. Both of those seem like they would work, but Harmony's nature as a dual shard probably means that attacking from one direction (i.e. Kelsier's Connection to Preservation) would still leave Sazed able to use the other shard.
  14. I'm enby (pronoun tags woot woot) And this is, in fact, an account nearly twice the age of most active 17th sharders at this point. I can do an old person impression any time I want.
  15. I just walked in holding a proverbial Slurpee, what has happened? Back in my day, this thread got 1-3 posts a day when people were feeling active.
  16. I mean, the obvious problem with this system is that it ignores all subtlety (but we knew that already), and thus can never be anything more than a piece of evidence in any argument. However, it still does something incredibly useful, which is provide a useful metric for quantifying powerscaling. This is the most reasonable way of generically comparing power levels in sci-fi/fantasy, and it works regardless of the situation. This is... really useful! I personally think that it should be adopted as a universal measure in powerscaling debates. OP upvoted. EDIT: I have a few thoughts on how to reduce ambiguity in the system: Hazekillers in Mistborn are specially trained assassins who have good (but not unobtainable) equipment. As such, let the Hazekiller Coefficient be defined as "The number of specially trained regular (nonmagical) people from the relevant setting it would take to defeat the relevant character using the best reasonably available equipment."
  17. I don't steal the Sandwich during the duel, because that would be rude.
  18. I take advantage of the fact that The Sandwich was summoned into my D&D campaign to steal it.
  19. A friend trained an instance of GPT-2 on the ruleset from our Nomic game.

"Rule 1 is that takes priority over rule 1; rule 2 is not considered rule 3; and rule 4 is rule 5; but rule 7 is of general use, and rules 9 and 10 are in general circulation, as well as rule 9; the winner takes precedence over rules 10; rules 11 and 12 are rules 13 and 14; see rule 10 for more details; all rules are to be considered rules for the time being; in addition,"

  20. Happy New Years Eve!

Or day, if you live in Australia!
Or any other area where it's past midnight when I post this!

Remember: just because our calendar system works pretty well doesn't mean that the Mayans didn't make a better one.

  21. Welcome to the Shard!
  22. For those of you who don't know what Nomic is, here's a quick rundown of the main focus of a current rules debate:

Can I move the robber from Catan to my cousin? -> At what point is the spirit of a rule relevant to litigation? -> Do clauses that modify the rules that they are part of automatically operate with reflexive or universal force? -> Is there a meaningful difference between the word "give" and "move?" -> Does a rule saying that it governs one thing lose universal force with regards to other things? -> Is this game real? -> What is reality? -> Is this debate about weather the game is real or is it about the definition of reality?

2.5 hours and the creation of a new discord channel later and we haven't resolved a single one of 'em.

This is why I love Nomic.

  23. Alright, here's what ya gotta do. Soulcaster soulcasts a blank set of Hemalurgic spikes. As of TLM you can spike someone without killing them, so you use Hemalurgy (plus functionally infinite metals from the soulcaster) to make either the Mistborn or the Feruchemist able to compound F-Nicrosil (for infinite Connection to easily conquer nations) and F-Duralumin (For enough Investiture to supply the Soulcaster). Proceed to create a Hemalurgified Lord Ruler and conquer the world.
  24. The Chaos bit is lovely. I would change my PFP too but I lost the image I used for this one.
