  1. Yeah, I was the one who made the post that has become the de facto Ookla Season Cometh thread for some reason.
  2. Ookla has been seasoned!

The name on here is, of course, a The Three-Body Problem reference, for reasons that should be abundantly clear if you check my AMA. This is a blatant plug for said AMA. I need more reasons to actively engage in the community. Please help me.

On Discord, with its slightly longer username limit, I am now known as Ookla the Knight who says 'Ni!'
The reference should be clear. I am ignoring xkcd comic 16. You can't force me not to.

Sadly, some punny usernames (that was a reference that you may have gotten) that I intended to use were just too long. I'll save those for random jokes and puns in the future.

Please pretend that this sentence was a very profound and emotional conclusion.
    Thanks!

Wow, that was really, really inspiring, you just like, got it. And you understood like, everything. Wow, that was really profound and like, I was emotional reading that. That was amazing.

  3. What do you mean by "couldn't Adonalsium have used other shards?" Dawnshards are, by definition, the commands that Adonalsium used to create things. I think that what you're asking is weather or not Adonalsium could have used similar entities as Dawnshards; however, the Dawnshards we have seen in the books (Change and whichever one Sig had) are nonsentient whereas Adonalsium is sentient. This would imply that they are different classes of entity.
  4. There's no reason why what you are suggesting couldn't be possible, given what we know about how Lightweaving works.
  5. That's a nice theory, but it's explicitly stated in Dawnshard and established in The Sunlit Man (as well as some other novels, I think?) that the Dawnshards are the four primal commands used by Adonalsium to create (although maybe not quite create, if you believe the Aethers (TLM), but certainly do things to) the Cosmere. Ergo, Adonalsium can't be a Dawnshard by definition. Also, a 5th dawnshard breaks the satisfying mathematical patterns with the 16 shards. The idea of Adonalsium being power that gained sentience through the same process as Honor did in WaT does seem promising, though.
  6. Almost done with my compulsive binge read of Robert Jackson Bennett's entire body of work!

American Elsewhere deserves more love. It's the best horror novel I've read in a long while.

  7. I think loss of Hemalurgic investiture has more to do with the fact that a spike is an incomplete fragment of someone's spiritweb than anything about the system it is part of (although it does make the system more Ruin-coded, so I could be totally wrong there). Supporting this theory, the reason that Hemalurgic spikes don't decay when inside humans is the fact that they're connected to a complete spiritweb. Or just soak them in blood, which I think helps curb decay?
  8. The sandwich, having been stolen by me when I was snooping in the cloud of mist, shows up in my Secret Hideout from that one four page long period when everybody forgot that I had the sandwich and started stealing a duplicate from @Immortal Platypus.

  10. Winning for anything longer than an hour is too much.
  11. "There is, of course, a legal, standard way within the guilds for a crew to mutiny, a protocol that has lasted for centuries. A senior crew member, preferably the executive officer/first mate, but possibly the chief engineer, chief technician, chief physician or, in genuinely bizarre circumstances, the owner’s representative, would offer the ship’s imperial adjunct a formal Bill of Grievances Pursuant to a Mutiny, consistent with guild protocol. The imperial adjunct would confer with the ship’s chief chaplain, calling for witnesses and testimony if required, and the two would, in no later than a month, either offer up with a Finding for Mutiny, or issue a Denial of Mutiny. In the case of the former, the chief of security would formally remove and sequester the captain of the ship, who would face a formal guild hearing at the ship’s next destination, with penalties ranging from loss of ship, rank, and spacing privileges, to actual civil and criminal charges leading to a stint in prison, or, in the most severe cases, a death sentence. In the case of the latter, it was the complaining crew member who was bundled up by the chief of security for the formal guild hearing, etc, etc. Obviously, no one was going to do any of that." - Sun Tzu, the Art of War
  12. While you are eating that sandwich, I reclaim The Sandwich by ironpulling on the trace Hg content in the tuna salad.

  14. As Chaos said, it's used by fans sometimes (I picked it up from the discord server). Edit: In case I didn't make it clear, the official term is just atium. Hathsinium is a fan term that appears occasionally and that I'm a fan of because it reduces ambiguity.
  15. Actually, anyone can burn Pure Atium. The atium from Hathsin (referred to either as atium (capitalization inconsistent) or Hathsinium) is an Atium/electrum alloy. This is broadly referred to as "the Atium Retcon." Arcanum isn't loading on my computer for some completely incomprehensible reason, so I can't find the WoB.
  16. Shoutout to my friend who made Hadestown karaoke a requirement for voting negatively on a proposal in my game of Nomic.

The rule has since been expanded to include any stage musical, but even so.

Anyway, back to relative inactivity until Ookla season!

  17. I offer Bartholomew two bottles of milk to claim the Sandwich for myself.
  18. While the duel is going on, I steal the second set of organs with the help of Lt. Harry "Snapper" Organs and take the sandwich as a side for my organ salad.
