  1. Refnet Bookwyrm stepped through the Wyrmhole onto the sandy dunes. The sky was a vivid, cloudless blue, and a single white sun hung in the sky. A small moon with a cracked surface hovered near the horizon, and a larger one appeared as a crescent higher in the sky. A group of the patients followed behind him, covering their faces from the blowing sand. "Yeah," Bookwyrm said. "The coordinates I chose were close to an entrance." He pointed to a rock formation sticking out of the sands like an island in an ocean. It was probably a few minutes' walk away. "We'll find some kind of passage on that rock that leads to the subterranean caverns. There should be plenty of water and food down there."
  2. "You don't know that. And there are ways to know about things without seeing them yourself. That's why I asked."
  3. "I will sit on you." - @shortcake to @The last Fae in the Woods Edit: "Yes, I'm a nerd. Please forgive me." - Me "Why would I forgive you?" - @InfiniteInsanity
  4. Bookwyrm gave Subversion a dry look. "He wasn't my choice. Not at this level of my being, anyway. I suppose my author could have had different thoughts, but considering I'm a version of him..." he trailed off. "Anyway, for now, The Plotblade of Unity is split. Whatever we have here, and whatever Avatar took from it." He turned to the inspector. "Do you know anything about that monster that had the Plotblade before Rym got it?" @xinoehp512
  5. Earth: Greenland "Yeah, all of it. It's a magic book." Bookwyrm flipped through the pages. "There's a small desert planet called Refnet in a dwarf galaxy at the fringes of a universe not too far from here," Bookwyrm said. "The caverns underneath the planets dunes hold a vibrant biosphere sustained by an internal water cycle. It's completely remote, never even been visited; whoever gathered this information did so simply by watching it through dimensional sight." He snapped his book closed and summoned a large Wyrmhole that towered over them. A warm, dry wind blew through it. "Lead all of them through here. We'll find a cave where they could live for months - maybe years - on their own, then try to re-group and plan our next steps." He sighed. Really, it's all up to Calano. Whatever he does on the Path will determine our next steps - and ultimately, our fates. And some of us have latent Kaos inside us. Me and Insa specifically. I don't really know what we're going to do next. Have trust. Bookwyrm's head snapped up. You again? Yes. You know, I really would like an introduction one of these times. Get to Refnet. Make sure the patients are safe. And then I promise I'll answer your questions, my friend. You deserve a long explanation. Bookwyrm smiled slightly. "All right! Let's get everyone through the Wyrmhole!" He looked around the frozen landscape one last time. For some reason he got the feeling that this wouldn't be the last time he saw Earth in the near future... @InfiniteInsanity @Aes Sedai @Ati16 @Nameless*
  6. No. Very very far from my music taste. What's your favorite planet?
  7. ...No not really. My dad is an archeologist for the National Park Service, though, which is neat. I did an excavation with him last summer. (He used to be a Biblical Archeologist, which in some ways is arguably cooler.) TPBM has conducted the scientific method before.
  8. ....Logic tells me yes. All of my personal opinions and values scream violently NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!. Why is this thread just Ask Anyone Anything? Should we all go carefully re-read the OP? EDIT: OH YOU'RE SUPPOSED TO EDIT YOUR POST WITH THE QUESTION WHEN THE ANSWER COMES SO IT SEEMS FUNNY OOOOHHHHH I SEE NOW Okay, new real question: What should you do when you get caught in the rain without an umbrella?
  9. I've always loved stories where there's some conflict among gods. Great forces that create and destroy worlds. But, because of the laws and rules that govern them, they find themselves limited to act in meaningful capacities in certain crucial times. This is when they start almost a game of pawns, but also far more than that. Mortal beings without the full view of the scope of the conflict are guided along frustrating and seemingly impossible paths to grow and learn and achieve what a higher force predestined them to. We watch plans unfold from the eyes of the pieces, real humans with emotion and desires, but willing to set those aside - or perhaps embrace them? - in order to carry out something for the greater good. These omnipotent beings lay plans upon plans in conflicts that span eternities, but in the end it all comes down to people not that much different than us wielding the power to shape reality in order to win a conflict for good. Eternal conflicts hinging on actions that happen in the relative blink of an eye.

This is the basis for some of my favorite stories; the Cosmere, for instance, especially the original Mistborn trilogy and Stormlight. Some of my favorite video games also utilize this concept, such as The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword and the first Xenoblade Chronicles. (Though in XC1 things go slightly differently than what I've summarized above...)

If I write a story ever, I'd like it to be along these lines. I already have a rough outline for a connected universe - my own Cosmere, if you will - that has a few elements of this plotline, but is also lacking in others. Namely, gods that would operate in these parameters, and laws that govern those gods that would require them to use mortals in order for their plans to work.

...I'm not sure why I typed all of this. I like ranting. And I suppose I want to start a discussion that may give me book ideas.

But yeah. Stories like this are cool.

      True

Zeus barely was manipulating them at all. He was just that one guy who was like "EHHHH I HATE EVERYONE AND EVERYTHING!" That was my impression, at least. Ares did a lil bit. Poseidon was doing some great stuff, though I don't think of it as manipulation.

Okay we don't need to yell about PJ; it's a great series for younger readers. Super entertaining and gets people to enjoy reading.

That being said...once you've started reading high fantasy, it's hard to go back, hard to enjoy something when you can find the flaws so easily.

  10. I love this, Fadran. Really the only fantasy universe that I've deeply looked into theories of this sort is the Cosmere. So it's interesting and fun to be exposed to similar lines of thinking in the Zelda universe. And it does make much sense. And makes me like Skyward Sword more, which was already my favorite Zelda game, at least plotwise. (I need to play more Zelda games.)
  11. Oh. I don't pay really that much attention to actors, as long as they aren't terrible. But Dune is a really good movie that does the whole book adaption thing the right way. And part 2 comes out this year and I'm excited.
  12. Okay, I am a straight person, but I'm visiting because were you talking about Dune without me? Or was it just the actors?
  13. Earth: Greenland "This is admittedly a part of the multiverse I do not spend much time in," Bookwyrm said. "And all the places I can think of off the top of my head are probably going to be under the influence of Kaos pretty soon." He frowned and folded his arms. "Let me think for-oh!" He snapped his fingers and pulled out his tome. "This now has all the information in the Clinic's library. I should be able to find an isolated, peaceful planet or pocket dimension or something for them to live in. For the time being."
  14. "I feel like one of those old people's just sittin' in the woods." - @shortcake who was eating a corn dog at the time
  15. That's something you need to clarify?
  16. Hello humans. I am winning. And also you can't see this text.

Oh. This guy. Man, Calano....those stories were sad...
  19. Earth: Greenland Bookwyrm blinked. So it is. A world that he had buried his connections to so deep it they were hard to find. "Okay," he said, sighing. "It doesn't really matter. I was just wondering." He snapped his fingers and his tunic and cloak turned into sturdy hiking boots, cargo pants, a warm blue jacket, and still his normal glasses. "Insa's right. Are we keeping them here? Or are we finding a world away from the conflict to keep them safe?" @InfiniteInsanity @Shadowed @Ati16
  20. Earth: Greenland "I don't think we have to worry about the residents of Earth finding us. It's the middle of Greenland; no one's here. But seriously - which version of Earth is this?!" @Nameless* @Shadowed @Ati16 @InfiniteInsanity
  21. Bookwyrm held out his Plotblade. "I'd like to know the name and nature of this Plotblade," he said.
  22. Hello, this thread died a little, so I'm resurrecting it with a new sentence. He ate.
