  1. Is that actually confirmed and if so would storing Investiture be enough to get around it or being leeched or gnatting yourself?
  2. I wonder if tapping Duralumin would bypass the usual range of a Nahel bond and restore the Connection while allowing the spren to be left on Roshar.
  3. Oh. Gotcha. Well humans were experimenting with surges while on Ashyn. We don’t know exactly how they were accessing them. Could be via the bacteria system or something different. Otherwise the only other system we have been exposed to I can think of that would possibly fit is AonDor which implies Dakhor and ChayShan might also be able to. But yes I do think that manipulation of surges could appear in a new magic system as well.
  4. Well as we see with Ruthar he can act in ways that he knows will incite others to endanger themselves and can have others do the harm on his behalf.
  5. Yes. Nicrosil can be used to store Radiant surges. If it was stored by a Skybreaker (rather than a Windrunner) maybe someone else tapping it would then suddenly care or have to care about legality to forge a Connection.
  6. I think burning Aluminum can also be used to disrupt any Surges that affect you directly. Like if a lashing was applied to you or someone attempted to soulcast you etc. You will of course need to replenish your own metals after that though so there is a trade off but the ability to no sell an enemy’s power could give you the upper hand. Also useful in separating a combatant from allies
  7. Returned are stapled back to their original bodies. How will these supposed cognitive shadows interact with the physical realm?
  8. Cultivation is about cultivating which can still happen by making someone ageless. This is assuming that Cultivation is not a “literal” genie. Honestly I prefer it that way. Might come in handy. No idea but we don’t know she wouldn’t be able to kill if afforded the opportunity. In a setting like the cosmere that seems less important in the long run.
  9. Maybe Kelsier was just flashier in his combat. Or Leras was just being nice.
  10. So basically Odium is already or planning in the future to create Fused like cognitive shadows of humans that die while under the effects of the Thrill and store them in the “Tranquiline Halls”. I do find it interesting but I that it was already generally accepted as canon that the Tranquiline Halls are real in so much as they are heavily romanticized and mythicized cultural memories of Ashyn.
  11. That would be unkeyed metalminds, not unsealed. Huh that is weird. Here we disagree on semantics making this train of inquiry deadlocked.
  12. Has anyone checked their armpits with a magnifying glass (for science of course)? There's always another secret.
  13. Speculating here but mimicking a slight arc for a few seconds probably does not cause as much strain. The fact that it does cause strain also implies that lashing does not redirect any prior moment which could be another way to mimic an arc. I wouldn't call having to use work around investiture hacks to possibly temporarily use abilities again "maintained" so this isn't a contradiction for me. Unsealed nicrosil medallions
  14. You did just explain one possible method how they could mimic an arc. Surgebinders might not glow if they are powering their surges via non stormlight means; we just don't know yet.
  15. I guess we will see in two books. I find it very hard to believe that Cultivation couldn't recreate the fifth heightening if she wanted to This is speculative. I don't see the difference Nope which leaves it up in the air but definitely not a "she definitely can't" And yet metaphysically I would be.
  16. That WOB is from before we knew it wasn’t actually the Nightwatcher and the WOB seems to answer in kind. Do we know that Old Magic only affects the person asking for a boon? Nightwatcher says she can grant followers that implies she can affect other people. When Shai forges herself into an Elantrian she is an Elantrian. Again do we know that the Nightwatcher can’t kill people? I might not even need to steal it just have that aspect of a spiritweb copied to my own without stealing. You can argue semantics all you want but my spiritual DNA would pass the smell test. If there was a competition winning or truth detecting magic it would confirm my status as the winner.
  17. Nightwatcher couldn’t for Dalinar because she didn’t understand the concept; I assume she would under “win this competition”. Cultivation didn’t but we don’t know if she couldn’t or wouldn’t. Seeing as agelessness is something achievable in the cosmere by various means I assume she could if wanted to but chose not to. I will admit to that being speculative but so is flat out saying she couldn’t. The main thing about Old Magic is we don’t know how it works at all so it’s really hard to say. One method could be letting one of y’all win, then stealing that bit of Identity/Connection/Destiny and granting it to me after the fact. Maybe she gives me an Essence Mark to change my history into having won it. Doubtful but maybe she kills all the other contestants; she probably can’t directly but a spren could possibly and the Nightwatcher is a powerful spren. She bribes the people officiating the competition (we do have officials right?). The possibilities are endless with Old Magic.
  18. Unless you are implying that I can actually get Cultivation to intercede rather than just a Boon/Bane I’m not sure why you are using Lift as an example.
  19. I didn't say they did. I said non mammals have secondary sex characteristics which breasts also happen to fall under. We don't know if singers breastfeed; they might not actually have mammary glands either.
  20. Without the source material directly in front of me all I can say is the assumption that Steris's perspective isn't unreliable.
  21. Thanks I kinda got lucky on this. I know Ockham's Razor has it's uses but has it's own fallacy ptifalls. I was looking up if there is a formal or informal logical fallacy tied to applying the razor erroneously. I didn't quite find one but came across anti-razors such as Hickum's Dictum and the like. Chekhov's Gun was mentioned tangentially and I thought it the perfect rebuttal. Because as you noted Brandon intentionally has them bring up the legality and he is a big fan of using Chekhov's Gun as a method of foreshadowing as opposed to being a proponent of red herrings (why couldn't this have been called Cobbett's Herring after it's trope codifier for thematic reasons?).
  22. Frost's letter to Hoid It does require some speculation on what exactly that means. I think Zahel's conversation with Kaladin in RoW also states or at least implies Roshar being one of the older planets in the cosmere.
  23. I already did that one and you can technically get to just below second heightening so a few more breaths than 50. My different builds are: All four Dawnshards with 195 breaths Chromium compounding with 2 Dawnshards (which still leaves me with 30 points to spare for whatever) 1000 point Boon to just be declared the Winner
  24. It's implied they existed before the Shattering or at least naturally developed from stuff put in place before the Shattering I believe.
