What happens when an immortal falls into the unsea?
lacrossedeamon replied to Walter The Moral's topic in Cosmere Discussion
Even if they now know, it would have only been for a few years, probably not long enough to reflect in the cognitive realm yet. Might need a generation or two, for people to have grown up their whole life with that concept rather than adults who learned it later in life after having internalized something different. -
For the talking thing the Sleepless might be able to manipulate Connection between each other to talk like Sigzil and Hoid do in TSM or they might have a portion of the Spiritual Realm to commune in like the Spirit Shores. Also iirc IOTE implied the Ones Above arrived to FotS earlier than they did in SotD so the Sleepless would have had a little bit longer to smuggle themselves on to the planet if that is the method they got there.

What was Harmony the first/only shard to have done?
lacrossedeamon replied to Limpy's topic in Cosmere Discussion
Assuming Odium becoming Retribution doesn't count but otherwise this could be it -
Yeah for the translation medallions to work with non feruchemists it has to give the user feruchemy abilities And so far Harmonium has only been seen used for the primer cubes.

Technology between Era 3 and Era 4

Being in a military and knowing all the ins and outs are rather different. There could be clearance levels needed. He could love to brag and still know somethings are better left unsaid. Him being completely incompetent undercuts some of the achievements of the protagonists imo. This is perfectly fair. -
Since they figured out unsealed nicrosil metalminds

Technology between Era 3 and Era 4
lacrossedeamon replied to therunner's topic in Cosmere Discussion
We do that different groups of Southern Scadrians have different mask customs. Leonore seems to be part of a more conservative group as the one piece of artwork we have of her has her holding a more traditional mask. She might not know all the ends and outs of "masks" from other groups. -
Maybe and if so they might also be capable of compounding which would make them exponentially more useful. But I would think if the metalmind is capable of using Allomancy it would use up the metalmind similar to compounding.
-
Yeah I think steelminds are used for acceleration/deceleration in instances aether propulsion is not viable.
-
I think an awakened coppermind would being doing stuff with f-copper, not a-copper. Not sure though.

Mentions of Cakoban added to the flashblacks, I think earlier reference to the Ones Above, and retconning some elements about the mainland.

Brandon has a wob implying that he doesn't consider dragonsteel a god metal nor do I think dragons since they predate the shattering can fit the definition of a sliver. I don't think what Starling is doing is that comparable to what happened with Dalinar in the SR. I think the design of the Spirit Shores mitigates that.

What was Harmony the first/only shard to have done?
lacrossedeamon replied to Limpy's topic in Cosmere Discussion
This is not what is said. Ed is explaining why he can disagree with a lot of Scadrian culture while still following a Scadrian religion. The reasons given is that he thinks the Shard, presumably Harmony/Sazed, is nice and is the only Shard to have done... something... that is still living (which means that whatever was done could have also been done by a previous Shard as well). -
Aditil has a "sky" colored hand implying she was bonded to the Zephyr aether and they explicitly mention Zephyr aethers being used as the propellent for the Dynamic with the implication that the Malwish use the same type as well.

And we saw certain entities can interfere with that. You'd want to IRP harden your gear. (IRP is like EMP but Investo-Realmatic Pulse) And even discounting that, it's always good to have a back up power source/system and not need to rely solely on Investiture when Sazed generously created a bunch of fossil fuels for you.

I mean Dusk's main goal was to find allies. Without Starling he would not have managed that. The backstory is rewritten a little bit to insert Cakoban in there and retcon the mainland but I'm not sure how much that effected Dusk's personality and thought process. Saja (the MP) possibly survived and might appear in later works. Zephyr aethers are used for ship propulsion. We don't know if just the bud died or if the actual core Zephyr aether died.

Is Frosts sister as well the mother of Starling?
lacrossedeamon replied to Sythrin's topic in Cosmere Discussion
Yeah... she got pregnant -
Not sure. Errata and Corrigenda can cover both typographic and illustrative errors I guess. Imago however refers either to the adult stage in an insects lifecycle or the stereotype of a loved one a person has of another due to previous childhood perception (think Go Set a Watchman). Anyways why I am really here: Per Khrissalla's comment about the sand experimentation portion of her journal there is "no discernable change in the control groups." However the table for the second experiment "How long does it take sand to go stale when left in darkness?" has the "test" and "control" labels swapped. Beyond this I think the methodology here is faulty. If testing "How long does it take sand to go stale when left in darkness?" the control group should be Invested sand left out in the sun. I assume the wet sand in the darkness column was included as a comparison for when the Invested sand fully lost its charge but I don't think that would be an actual "test" or "control" group. Edit: Adding a reddit thread I posted on r/PhilosophyofScience asking for thoughts on the experimental setup and notation (so far only one response).

Technology between Era 3 and Era 4
lacrossedeamon replied to therunner's topic in Cosmere Discussion
RE: Hemalurgy I'd like to point out that we know it has drawbacks such making one vulnerable to emotional Allomancy. We've also seen there is a lot of convergent evolution in Invested systems so Allomancy is probably not the only way to do that. I would guess you don't want your first contact envoys to have that weakness until you know its not something the locals could exploit. -
I've always wondered how monolith the Iriali as a people are or if they are multiple groups doing separate Long Trails. How do mixed blood Iriali fit, like would Rirans be allowed to join, and do some Iriali just say actually I would like to stay here? I think it's interesting that we have 2 instances of abandoned cities being found later in the Diem and Elantris which could tie in both with the Long Trail and the Eelakin histories. There is also the fact that its Seven Lands and Autonomy's number is most likely 7. Hoid's comments on the Iriali in WaT lead me to believe they are some sort of splintered Avatar. I had believed Virtuosity prior but the above makes me now think Autonomy. We see Cusicesh open perps so possibly that is how they get to Lumar although he is hijacking Honor's instead of creating his own. But I think the aether paired with Midnight might open perps as well and Cusicesh might inherently hijack local magics (which again is similar to Autonomy's MO). As for land do we know if it's only one island? The fact that many nobles still learn their language centuries later implies to me they were a very dominant force on the planet, probably controlling lots of islands. I will say the timeline is a bit odd given Foil's mention in RoW and WoB's about the Iriali departure from Lumar, bring me back to my first topic. Frost's comments to Cakoban implies there are variations of Navigators. Possibly related to the Sho Del and some of these could possibly predate the Grand Knell. I do think there is a connection between the Eelakin and the Iriali possibly as an outbreeding similar to the Rirans but much further removed. I would love to see more Iriali. Hopefully we can revisit Dyel somehow, maybe in Era 3 Mistborn. I do agree with your idea that the Iriali on Scadrial can't be the bulk of their people. It would be much bigger news if that were the cast.
-
We know it's the dominant trait compared to the traits the Reshi and Selay had but maybe not this other population (and genetics are a bit wonky in the cosmere). The Eelakin would also be much further removed from the original population than the Rirans are from the Iriali whom they can get new influxes of genes from until WaT.
-
I think some of this might be retconned similar to Eelakin living on the mainland or the original Tenth the Finder lore.

Kelsier desire the "democratize the metallic arts" feels like its just gonna turn into Halladren with Awakeners and Drabs. -
I have recently come to the idea that the Eelakin are an outbreeding of the Iriali similar to the Rirans. And that the Iriali are originally from Taldain (7 is most likely Autonomy's number) but that Sel was one of the earlier stops on the Long Trail and thus like the abandoned Diem the Iriali built the abandoned Elantris.
