Am I supposed to know who oolong is?
PurpurPhönix replied to operationstack's topic in Tress of the Emerald Sea
But it is Ulaam in TatES and not Ulaan, so it's presumably the same Kandra -
Tress of the Emerald Sea Reactions (Cosmere Edition)
PurpurPhönix replied to Chaos's topic in Cosmere Discussion
I think it's all Elantrian stuff, but because our only written accounts of Elantrian magic are from the Shaod, where Elantrian magic was practically nonexistent we're probably relatively ignorant about what its true power is. But even there we see Raoden do some really powerful stuff, like teleporting hundreds of miles. And we see the IRE make a device that can forge a Connection to a Shard. All in all Elantrian magic seems very powerful indeed -
I think it does, but without any kind of explicitly given name, it's hard to classify it under the Known Oceans

I'm reading The Stormlight Archive for the first time
PurpurPhönix replied to Amira's topic in Stormlight Archive
Glad to have you reading again! it's been fun seeing the book through a first timer's eyes -
Did Dalinar still have his memory the his brother died?
PurpurPhönix replied to Cyprian Wiley's question in Cosmere Q&A
He was super drunk at Gavilar's feast because he was still depressed after his wife died, he hadn't yet gotten rid of his memories. -
The investiture to power the Surges needs to come from somewhere, if this were the case where would it come from?

During the last secret project livestream Brandon said that all 3 take place in the future of the Cosmere (with the present being approximately Stormlight 5 and Mistborn Era 2). But I think he also said that SP#4 was approximately when Era 4/Sixth of the Dusk is, so that's probably the latest, and the other two are in between now and then

Welcome! What's your favorite Cosmere book and favorite Cosmere Character?

Discuss the Stormlight 5 Prologue Here
PurpurPhönix replied to LewsTherinTelescope's topic in Cosmere Discussion
But he's not looking for the words to become a Radiant, he's looking for the words to become a Herald, could just be very different words -
Discuss the Stormlight 5 Prologue Here
PurpurPhönix replied to LewsTherinTelescope's topic in Cosmere Discussion
So if it's not the Stormfather, then how did Gavilar get the visions? Did someone else have access to them? -
I guess this puts me on the metaphorical map
PurpurPhönix replied to PuffHuffle's topic in Introduce Yourself!
You're not wrong, it just feels so final (although you can still edit after submitting). But welcome to the Shard! -
Is the Stormlight Archive necessarily in world? All the book titles are book titles in world but I don't think that has to mean the title of the series is as well

I mean the Rosharans do consider Cognitive Shadows essentially spren, in fact I think some of the Heralds are referred to as at least spren-like. It's just like all the magic systems are all surge binding. Although his having seen more of the cosmere may have disabused him of that notion too. But it also doesn't really seem like Yelig-nar. Like sure he's "in control" but like Sig can still do what he wants, and can even leave Aux behind. Plus bonding Yelig-nar seems risky at best

I'm reading The Stormlight Archive for the first time
PurpurPhönix replied to Amira's topic in Stormlight Archive
Stormlight certainly does ask a lot of its readers pretty quickly but the journey is worth it -
Yeah that could be a weird kind of Feruchemy, one that can forcibly take the attribute from someone else. And the planet does have some Scadrian influence, as we see the plate with Scadrian writing on it later. Although Nomad also seems familiar with it and Scadrial so why doesn't he notice the connection between these bracers and Feruchemy?

future sight, possibilities, and free will
PurpurPhönix replied to cometaryorbit's topic in Cosmere Discussion
There are experiments to tell if there is some hidden variable that we just can't measure or true randomness and the results of those experiments have indicated that many quantum events are just truly random -
Welcome to the Shard! It's great to have you!

Yeah Sig wasn't the most common, but I did see at least one or two people mention him as a possibility. Although I think people weren't sure where it would be if it was him

Could we guess the last Shard ?
PurpurPhönix replied to Friendshipspren's topic in Cosmere Discussion
Do they? I'd argue that being just usually means not being merciful. If someone deserves punishment and you give it them, that's not mercy that's justice. If someone deserves punishment but you choose to forgo that punishment, that's merciful but not justice -

The easiest place is probably their YouTube channel -
[Theory] Tanavast, Aona, and/or Skai may have been dragons
PurpurPhönix replied to Ixthos's topic in Cosmere Discussion
If they even knew that there would be Shards when they shattered Adonalsium. How much would the original vessels have even known would happen after the Shattering? I imagine they thought they would get some power but Shards specifically? -
where do we see that? I don't remember it, although if it was in a WoB then I probably would just never have heard it

Stories That Make You Cry
PurpurPhönix replied to Spren of Kindness's topic in Entertainment Discussion
I just rewatched the Good Place recently and I definitely just like all out bawl during the finale, and normal cry during plenty of the rest of the show -
Has Brandon said this could happen? I guess it would take like an unkeyed metalmind or something, cause I'm pretty sure they've said that two people can't both use the same normal metalmind
-
And really with everything going on on Roshar, the social order is probably gonna fall a little into disarray, which makes these kind of social class distinctions easier to change one would imagine
