  1. But that could've been Kaladin seeing the forms they take in the Physical Realm. Spren (tend to) look very different in Shadesmar.
  2. Indeed. Syl does say that they "need to be revived every time", but it's not a full revival - it's more akin to you can make a dead squid "dance" by pouring soy sauce on it. Shardbearers don't really revive their Blade's spren, they just give it enough... something... to summon it into the physical realm.
  3. Not guaranteed to be a weekend, we don't have cons that invite him, so he comes during the week as much (more, probably) as during the weekend.
  4. Yeah... but it's a weird thing. Sometimes when people ask questions it's not about the answer, it's about getting an answer. From Brandon. It's about the fan-author relationship, not about new knowledge. I am not saying this is usually the case, or even often the case, but some people don't want a random person on the Internet to reply to them, they want Brandon to. It's a balancing act.
  5. There is no WoB, and neither is the opinion a popular one. In fact, we know Hoid cannot access all magic systems, as he tried to make himself an Elantrian and failed. It is also likely that he needed the lerasium bead he stole from the chapter of the Well of Ascension to make himself into a Mistborn.
  6. No, it's okay, I get it . I search for "Argent" in case people are talking smack about me or not pinging me when they should. It's about the things we love
  7. Renarin's name is like a summoning invocation for you...
  8. Professionals recommend you see a doctor if this lasts more than four hours. I think you are thinking about this incorrectly. Magic systems do seem to share something with their Shard(s)'s intent, but it's a little more vague than that. Allomancy is about preserving yourself - because the investiture comes from Preservation himself, you are not expending any of your own. Hemalurgy is pretty straightforwardly ruinous. Feruchemy is the balance between these two powers. Awakening is the act of granting, of endowing some form of limited life to objects. Surgebinding is, at least partially, dependent on the Radiant acting with honor (fitting Cultivation on it is a little more difficult, as we don't know much about her, so we'll leave her out for now). And so on. As for the rest of your theory... Honestly, I think it's boring. You put all the known magic systems together, you end up with something that loses a lot of the flavor. Brandon wouldn't do something like this. Allomancy doesn't create investiture - investiture, like energy, can be neither created nor destroyed, only converted to and from. You seem to be aware of this, but I emphasize it because your second point doesn't follow from it - Preservation could, in theory, use up all of his power fueling Allomancers, and this would impose no Hemalurgic restriction whatsoever. Moreover, all of this Preservation investiture will eventually make its way back to the Spiritual Realm and rejoin the Shard (so to speak). The "thing" that opposed Adonalsium has been confirmed to have been the original sixteen Vessels. The Coppermind might be out of date on that regard, as the reveal was made in Secret History, but there is very little room to doubt he correctness of this information. So, considering the power discrepancy between the original sixteen and Adonalsium, the argument that Adonalsium would make himself weaker to them is like saying that evaporating a glass of water from the ocean makes it more easily drinkable - true, strictly speaking, but immaterial. That's a big assumption you are making. Not only do we not know whether Adonalsium's interference would result in a self-Shattering of some sort, we also don't know whether he was "balanced" in the way Harmony is. Not all Shards have a perfect opposite in the way Ruin and Preservation did. Adonalsium's "divine hatred", his Odium, didn't necessarily have to be balanced by a "divine love", for example. So he might have been limited in the ratio of creation/destruction he did, while remaining free to act in other ways.
  9. Honestly, most of those would probably work. The thing is, often times there are non-obvious requirements to using magic - certain Spiritual Connections, a proper mindset, even good old DNA. So, sure, one of the extremely rare Radiants who also happens to be an extremely rare nicrosil Ferring, and has figured out a way to get their spren off-world (are you aware of the problems involved in getting a spren away from Roshar?), yeah, the might be able to get Stormlight on demand. But, as Brandon has started asking us in recent months, do you really care about what's possible in the Cosmere? Because, in theory, almost anything is possible. Isn't the plausibility question a more interesting one?
  10. Of course The Sovereign would dig this one out...
  11. I believe I have seen the question asked (and RAFO'd) sometime in the past couple of years.
  12. No, unfortunately he is not there (unless he is, indirectly, with the Ones Above). He doesn't show up on "screen".
  13. So, I finally decided to give the interviews a listen, just in case something came out of them (plus I feel a little bit responsible for checking these recordings, being from Bulgaria and all). You can rest easy, it doesn't seem like we've missed anything too exciting. I listened and reported the open Q&A earlier, and now I've listened through the two-part interview. I am assuming no lore will come out from the writing lecture, but I'll give it a listen too. In the meantime, here are the few relevant (though not new) Cosmere bits: And the infamous "Shard of Ingenuity" WoB, verbose: I will remind you that Brandon later "clarified" it (through Isaac, on Twitter) by saying that "readers can interpret his worlds how they want." @WeiryWriter, the last link is dead - can you contact wot-tidbits about it (they say it's okay), because I don't know how to Tumblr beyond favoring things?
  14. It is pretty common knowledge by now that the Oathbringer prologue is from Eshonai's viewpoint - you may have even read a transcript of it. The reveals made there make it clear that Nightblood is extremely unlikely to be involved.
  15. Argent

    Roshar's Sun

What calculations are you running? It's possible that we know of a WoB that's relevant to your research.
  16. I neither remember, nor do I think I could interpret tone for you The recording should still be available, however, so you can check the transcript document for AU Chicago for a rough timestamp, and then jump to that time in the audio.
  17. You are not the first one to make this (or similar) connection, nor are you the first one to not get an answer. It was about whether his Breath stash was being removed Hemalurgically, though the questioner started off being evasive about it.
  18. I went over both recordings, no new reveals outside of the Oathbringer interlude. Couple of small things (Roshar is a planet smaller than Earth, the Lord Ruler had more than one child, and that there are different manifestations of and ways to manipulate magic on Nalthis but they are nowhere near as distinct as they are on Sel, for example), but that's about it (plus the few already mentioned in this thread). I haven't transcribed any of them, I was waiting for a good WoB... it just never came. Good recording though, Brandon was clear throughout, even if many questions got drowned in the crowd's background noise (as happens during big events, unfortunately).
  19. You are assuming a lot of things about the Oathpact The truth is, we have no idea what it entailed (and still does, as it is not broken), only that it was between Honor and his Heralds. The Honorblades could've come before or after said deal was made.
  20. That's a clever idea, I think (and makes certain amount of sense), but I think it makes Ivory too technically correct. His words would not be untrue, but they don't feel like they convey this kind of meaning. I do like the idea of the Origin being a source of investiture, essentially, and the highstorm periodically picking up a bunch of it and redistributing it around the world.
  21. So, to give you a little context, I was (mis)remembering that "deleted scene" you referenced above, the one where Jasnah gets trapped in Shadesmar for a bit. I remembered that the scene referenced Honor's Perpendicularity and Jasnah's need to reach it in order to leave, but I (perhaps incorrectly) thought that it is the way she actually left. Brandon's reply is also not entirely useful because it could be interpreted both ways - "Yes, Jasnah needed a Perpendicularity to escape, but Honor's moves so she couldn't use that one" or "Yes, Jasnah needed a Perpendicularity, but Honor's moves so she had to wait until it was in a good spot for her". I think I have to agree with you that my original guess - that Honor's Perpendicularity travels with the highstorms - was probably wrong. There are some ways I could rationalize it (maybe it is fairly stationary but highstorms passing through it drag it a little), but I don't think that would be profitable. I think I am on board with all of this. Actually, I think I am on board with a lot of the rest. Amusingly, the only thing I don't like is your conclusion - the analysis is quite fine. I'll have to see if I can come up with something I am happier with.
  22. Would be nice if we had one, wouldn't it? Unfortunately, we haven't been able to come up with anything as good as Brandon's fanbase deserves (though I hope we solve that problem some day...). Of use might be the Cosmere 101 thread and the (far less organized but much more information-rich) Theoryland interview database.
  23. He has been coming to Chicago pretty much with each new book, so I think there it's very likely that you'll get a chance to see him in November/December for the release of Oathbringer
  24. In here is good enough. People with rights to edit Theoryland will eventually pick them up.
  25. @TheAlmighty, the book makes it clear whom Paalm was referring to - is there a reason you think that's a red herring?
