      God damn! You’re dedicated!

  4. One and a half days (I think) but I appreciate that everyone has their own pace. And to further brag, I was ten or eleven at the time.
  5. Nope. TPBM has eaten toothpaste on purpose.
  6. @EmulatonStromenkiin I find the bold blue QUARK! in your signature hilarious and stylish (I like the shade of blue) and I'm sorry I don't know you well enough to give you a more specific compliment
  7. Adorable box dragon. Fits nicely in the circle too. 9.5/10
  8. This is horrifying. A four day win? .
  9. Welcome! Yes, that looks good.
  10. Hi, Onironte! Please avoid double posting, as the mods frown upon it (and we wish to avoid their modly gaze ) It's not serious, just something you might want to keep in mind. Welcome to the Shard!
  11. Aw yeah, being a nerd is the best. Welcome to the Shard!
  12. Don't we all. Welcome to the Shard! I hope you enjoy your time here!
  13. Don't worry about the double post, I think that is definitely excusable. Hi, @Sjsharks93! Welcome to the Shard!
  14. I'm slightly late, but hey there, and welcome to the Shard! Genuinely glad to have you here; you seem like a cool, articulate person.
  15. Can we all agree that we have started?
  16. Absolute Radio. The sheer inanity of the DJ's patter is comforting. I'd listen to the BBC, but it's blocked. Small things like this really piss me off irritate me. I hope I can get a VPN soon.
  17. I haven't been reading much recently. I keep going through cycles of reading everything I can get my hands on and just generally being obsessed with books to not reading a single chapter for months on end. My TBR list is very, very, long.

So I've been watching British panel shows and recorded stand-up comedy. I don't want to watch anything with a plot, that's how burnt out I am.

Does anybody else on here watch Taskmaster, or other panel shows? I highly doubt it (we're not exactly its target audience) but hey, I can try.

If not, are there any nonfiction books you'd recommend?

I'm feeling sad and I don't know why. Or maybe I do know why; I moved to a big city recently, and I'm staying at a hotel for the the first time in two, maybe three years. I honestly don't want to move back, but I spent almost half my life there, and I'd be lying if I said I didn't miss it a little bit. It's a big change.

    Also, I miss my mum.

Anyway, thank you for reading all this. Like I said to The Wandering Wizard, I'm feeling long-winded today. I always talk to myself a lot when I'm melancholy. Not depressed, melancholy. In my head there's a difference.

And a third question that I just thought of. If you start a book title in the middle of a sentence, do you say the Chronicles of Narnia or The Chronicles of Narnia? The latter looks wrong to me; I don't know why.

    1. Shining Silhouette

      Shining Silhouette

I haven't really watched any panel shows, but here are a few nonfiction books that I've liked:

American Sherlock by Kate Winkler Dawson

      Unbroken by Laura Hillenbrand

      Ghost Soldiers by Hampton Sides

The Only Plane in the Sky: An Oral History of 9/11 by Garret Graff

Change can really be hard and sometimes takes you right in the gut. And melancholiness is also hard; for me personally, when I get in that kind of mood, I like to take walks in the morning and try to keep my mood up. I always feel better when I make an effort to smile. And talking to yourself is healthy and helps to process new changes (another person can be good too).

For your third question, I don't know. At least for me, both look normal. Like maybe I'll say to a friend: "have you read Way of Kings" instead of The Way of Kings but maybe I'll also say "The Way of Kings is one of my favorite books." It's just one of those things, you know.

    2. Szeth's Facepalm

      Szeth's Facepalm

For nonfiction books, anything by Steve Sheinkin!

    3. The Unknown Medallion

      The Unknown Medallion

Yes, I've watched Taskmaster, kinda trailed off around season 7 though. Very much enjoyed, just did have the time. Not really other panel shows. Probably would have after Taskmaster if I had finished it.

As a rule, I don’t read nonfiction, so no help for you there.

Lowercase t all the way. However, for like papers and other more official things, The Way of Kings, or "The Way of Kings" would be proper, and the T is capitalized in those.

  18. Diana Wynne Jones! I know the OP has probably moved on, but Diana Wynne Jones is an amazingly good author. Squeaky clean too. Good places to start are Howl's Moving Castle, Dogsbody, Fire and Hemlock, and Dark Lord of Derkholm.
  19. Yes, I do. If you found out that your life was being secretly filmed and made into a reality TV show, like in that movie that I can't remember the title of, what would your reaction be?
  20. For me, it's the fear that I have accidentally done something very, very, stupid. Generally though, I'm not actually scared of mods. Interacting with them is fine, they are just regular users.
  21. Happy birthday mate!

(I was about to write "I hope you have a happy one!" but that's already been said... I still want to emphasize my well-wishes though.)

So happy, happy, birthday. I hope you get the best presents, eat delicious food, spend time with family and friends, and just generally have a great time.

Wow, this is a bit long for a birthday greeting. To anyone else, if I just say "Happy birthday [Sharder!]" it's not because I don't like you as much (or don't I? hehe) it's because I'm feeling particularly long-winded today.

(Also, I am going to feel like a total idiot if this isn't your actual birthday.)

(Also, do you live in the US? If so, what are you doing awake in the wee hours of the morning?)

    1. The Wandering Wizard

      The Wandering Wizard

I do live in the U.S. and it's about six here as I have trouble sleeping in so I'm always away by six, usually.

Thank you and it is my birthday today.

  22. Enchanted Glass, by Diana Wynne Jones. I'd forgotten how good a writer she was; I enjoy her books as much, if not more, as I did when I was a kid. Other than that, I've been a bit burned out on reading recently. Been watching a lot of stuff, but this isn't the thread for that.
  23. Happy birthday!
