    I know some awesome people...

I went to a trek kick off today and got to hang out with three sharder humans (lol)! A friend and I had a fun idea that we could gather a bunch of our friends in like my backyard with a projector and watch all three lord of the rings movies, so that's fun. It'll happen... someday.

    How's y'alls day been?

  3. "The Book of Mormon is a good read," - a friend of mine today in his talk at church.
  4. there are many Ender's game books.
  5. XD it is a funky name. As the books progress, it becomes more and more in place... not because it becomes normal, but because everything else gets weirder...
  6. Do not go gentle into that good night,
    Old age should burn and rave at close of day;
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.

Though wise men at their end know dark is right,
Because their words had forked no lightning they
Do not go gentle into that good night.

"Do not go gentle into that goodnight" is a poem famously read in the movie Interstellar, directed by Christopher Nolan. It's a good poem, I only put two stanzas of it here.

I felt it appropriate to share. Every day is a struggle in different ways for different people. Every day people go down on themselves because of their mistakes. Some go down on themselves for repeated mistakes. Some accept those as their new normal.

That last one is the one that I, and I urge that all of you do this as well, fight. It is when we accept the mistakes as normal that we fall. It is when we accept that failure as the typical, it is when we see sin as our new normal, it is when we stop trying that we fall. While we still get up, even from a long surrender, we can still win. We can still fight. It is not about the destination, it is about the journey. It's about the fight. Do not go gentle into that good night. Rage, rage against the dying of the light. If we do not attempt to get better from our mistakes because it is impossible, it will have been worse than if we had tried and failed.

Try, try, try again. If we do not try, then we cannot win, nor can we lose in the way we expect. Yet, is that truly not winning or losing?

When we fall, we must pick ourselves up. It may hurt, it may take a long while the first time, and the second, and even the third. But you must try. It's painful. I of all people know that. It hurts like the devil himself is stabbing you in the gut with burning metal. But you have to do it.

I have been going through a trial for, idk, over a year now? Maybe two? I don't keep track. It took me about half of that time to learn how to pick myself up when I fall and keep going. I am no paragon of which to copy from, I'm not trying to say that. I'm saying that I have learned a lesson from the stories. I see Kaladin, Dalinar, Stilgar, Teft Luke, Leia, Ashoka, Bruce Wayne, and more... I see them and I think "Hey, they could do it. If they could, I could too." And, hey, if they could, you can as well. If Dalinar, a murderer and a war lord, can be forgiven, if Alma the Younger can be forgiven, if Kaladin can try again after failing again and again, if Luke can forgive his father, if Captain America can keep doing the right thing even when all the world screams at him "no", if Loki can become more than the bad guy in the story, if Darth Vader can become better after so long...

If they can all do it, if they can all be forgiven, if they can keep trying, if they can get better, if they can do the right thing, then, stormit, so can you. You just have to not give up even if you have before, even if it's hard. You may give up, I do it too, it may become too much, but you must remember to keep trying to get back to it. Keep coming back. Keep trying. This life is hard, I know it as well as you do, but the moment we cease to strive is the moment that we submit our victory. Give your small victories credence, talk to people about it, get the help you need and never remember that there is a guy who types out giant essay things on the Shard after hyping himself up from failing again who believes in you.

Sincerely, your friend, knock off Zach Efron (What, you didn't know? Just listen to "other side" I totally sound like that... Totally... definitely...)

Good men, the last wave by, crying how bright
Their frail deeds might have danced in a green bay,
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.

Wild men who caught and sang the sun in flight,
And learn, too late, they grieved it on its way,
Do not go gentle into that good night.

Grave men, near death, who see with blinding sight
Blind eyes could blaze like meteors and be gay,
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.

And you, my father, there on the sad height,
Curse, bless, me now with your fierce tears, I pray.
Do not go gentle into that good night.
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.

  10. wow. I wonder how long this has been happening...
  11. I'm reading Eldest rn and I have some thoughts.

The approaching climax is feeling scarily like the Empire Strikes Back. If Eragon loses a hand, I'm going to murder Paolini for crimes against the sacred timeline.

Also: I think Roran is going to turn against Eragon somehow. Maybe he'll kill Galbatorix or something and take the throne from him to protect Carvahall. He like makes the Ra'zac obey him somehow.

Elva is basically just Alia lol. Like, I've seen a few things around about how bad she is and I'm just over here looking up from my copies of Dune like "Bro, that's just lil miss murder child making a cameo here, don't mind her. Atreides are like that."

I used to love Alia, then, in my recent read of the books, I realized how she was in Messiah and went "Ah, heck no." She's far more annoying in that book than I remembered at all... she reminds me of a wish version of evil Nyneave. lol.

(And also yeah, Eragon is Star Wars in a different skin. With a few minor changes.)

  12. Sitting on my roof right out my window with music playing while I'm doing school on my laptop is the best vibe.

I'm pretty sure I won't fall through the roof.

i would love to watch that duel.

  13. Amazing and beautiful, as always!
  14. Jodorwosky's Dune would've been even more of a drugs edition of Dune than David Lynch's Dune movie. Wow... I kinda want to go to an alternate dimension where it was actually made because it would've been wild.

you are so right. i would have loved to see it.

  15. Happy birthday! I could've sworn I've interacted with you before, but you left before I joined. I guess I've just seen a lot of your posts

  16. To all of you who responded to me, @The Aspiring Archivist, @Faerie Braids, @AonEne, @Koloss17, thank you. All of your views on these topics have really helped me understand more. I hope that we can all have continued understanding! I've been trying to fit all my thoughts into a paragraph, however... I'm gonna try again, and hopefully this time it feels like I'm the one who's writing it. I'm still really trying to figure out what my opinion on a lot of things are, how I look at the world. I know a few things of how I look at it, but not yet fully. And this has truly helped me enormously. Being on the Shard has just been enormous for me. I wouldn't have the amount of empathy and understanding of people who are different in a lot of ways than I am, and how I think, without the Shard. I don't have much else to say beyond: thank y'all for sharing! I might have further questions in the future, and I hope you'll answer those as well! As I said before: have a wonderful day/night y'all! Stay awesome (as if that's even hard for the people who I've interacted with here).

It's Hans Zimmer. It's on YouTube at least, on WaterTower Music's channel in their playlists, if you scroll a little. It's grouped in the same playlist as the first one. I'm listening to the first song rn.

As much as I love the Dune music, I'm going to wait until after I see it. I'm counting the music as technically spoilers.

  18. Ooohh psychology is cool. I feel like it would be dangerous if I learned more about it, my stories would become that much more traumatic.

  21. Hmm Allow me to introduce you to the definition of a nerd. “A nerd is a person who is socially awkward and is passionate about a…subject.” And, proven by previous posts, being socially awkward and liking social interaction are two different things. You are passionate about books, or at least Kvothe, and so forth. Thus, by the definition you are a nerd.
