  1. Chuck Norris wrote the original 11 rangers apprentice books, but stopped because he knows when to end the story. That's why every book since book 11 has been meh at best.
  2. *gives official document*
  3. That t'was not part of the deal, madam.
  4. Well, I'll get ya a moon cap to trade for that, eh, nice sun hat. I've gotta nice, eh, dragon named, ah, Norbert. @Just-A-Stick
  5. *shivers* I think that's the most terrifying tribe I've ever heard of... I may or may not survive if they arrive at the dance tonight...
  6. Who are your mains? I mainly main Ada, Magyar and Dusk. I've gotten especially good at Dusk lately, once I cracked the code for the orb. Edit: my new mains are Ada, Magyar, Koji, Roland and Ezio.
  7. … did you just call me old? XD
  8. Alright, before I start talking about Children of Dune, I want to bring up that I will finally be continuing the Inheritance cycle! I'm really excited to continue this series.

If you don't want to read a big rant/discussion on Dune, feel free to head on out lol.

Alright, now, I really need to unpack a lot of what has changed in my opinion of Children of Dune, so here goes:

Children of Dune by Frank Herbert is a novel which I have had a diverse number of opinions on since the moment I picked up the book and read the first chapter.

This is the second time I've made it all the way through Children of Dune and I now understand it fully and why I didn't like it before.

The key element is that I accidentally skipped some things and I misunderstood three characters.

Children of Dune is not one of those books where you can skip a few pages. In almost any place, you will miss important info that attributes to the plot and the arcs of the characters. A lot of big things happen.

    (spoilers from here on out)

The other times I read this book, I was a fan of Alia. Alia was one of my favorite characters. However, in this read through of the books, I finally realized how annoying she really was in Dune: Messiah and how she manipulated Duncan. This helped me accept her changes in Children of Dune, which was one of my biggest complaints since I accidentally skimmed through some of the Baron parts.

I misunderstood Paul too. Idk where I said my opinions on him, but I made a reply to a post of mine once after Eddie was asking something and I had a big ol thing on him. I misunderstood his role in this book. I now understand that his role is to show us where we could potentially go after making mistakes. Paul in this book is meant to usher in the next phase of Dune and show that Dune is no longer about the story of Paul Atreides. It was never about him.

The third character that I did not understand was Leto Atreides 2, part 2 (Yes, I remember the other Leto Atriedes II. He's great and I never want him forgotten.) I never got Leto. I never saw what he was doing, I never saw the sacrifice, I never saw the pain he went through. Then I realized it this time and saw that Leto was doing this because it was literally the only way to do it that he could find. I disagree with a lot of what he is doing to get the end he wants, I think he could use the future to shape a different future where he can still accomplish it, just without as horrible a means.

Leto's way is that the ends justify the means. That is an outlook that I can understand, and if you hold a version of that as your belief, I do not hold it against you, but as for me I really, really, really dislike it. I like Leto as a character despite his twisted worldview, which I feel is different than saying "I like Kaz Brekker." Being a Kaz Brekker fan and being a Leto fan are two different things. I don't know precisely how, but it just is and the comparison makes sense.

And now, to get to the real point of all this.

The other times I have read this book I have hated the last third of the book. I have mildly disliked the rest of it too. HOWEVER, this time I read it, I have understood far more and now move it up from a 6/10 to a 9/10. Why? Well, here's the following reasons:

    1. Leto makes sense and does cool stuff.
    2. The faction interplay is far more complex than I thought it to be.
    3. Jessica is just doing her Jessica thing and I love her and anyone who dislikes her is doomed to watching Rebecca Ferguson movies on repeat till the day they die.
    4. GURNEY AND STILGAR ARE GOATED
    5. The Preacher's first scene. Nuff said

Sorry if that read a little scatter brained or something like that, I'm a little tired from school this week.

      Thaidakar the Ghostblood

High on spice in a "I'm going to turn into a dumb alien monster like Edric" way, not a high on spice in a "I'm the fricking lisan al'gaib" way.

      I’m always high on spice.

  9. XD This can also apply to me lol. I've practically disappeared for long lengths of time-
  10. XD. I checked the doc with TLT stuff on it and basically just picked someone besides Platypus who I knew was still being played and Micheal and Mythos probably would have heard of. Shadow's lips turned up into a grin, hearing Hacob's voice echoing through the facility. Beside him, the child of Thaidakar's multiversial format stood, looking terrified. Poor young one, but things could not be altered. Specific things needed to happen. He leaned over and muttered a few things in the Thaidakar who was not a Thaidakar's ear. No, this one was not Thaidakar from TLT, nor was he Thaidakar from other things. he was himself to the greatest extent he could be. However, there were a few traits dominant from his spiritual ancestry that Shadow could awaken. All Thaidakars were arrogant in some way, whether it be conscious or not. This was the Thaidakar who was most like Thaidakar the Narrator, and that was what was important. Shadow touched the grate, converting to energy and forming beside Nowhere in his pale, suited form, "You claim to know what I want to do with this Thaidakar? You presume to know much, but know very little. With Darkness' return, I have had an awakening to what could be. I am Darkness, in a way. I can begin to guess some of what he is doing to end TLT, and I can guess what some of the prophesies have meant. Will you interfere with my plan or assist me with what I want to do?" Nowhere said nothing, watching all of this, hand slipping into his pocket and touching a small metal disk. Just in case... he thought. Darkness pushed back, energy flowing from him. Three of the walls turned into a marbling mass of red and black. "Behold the representation of yourself." And, with that, that same lightning fast energy which had come before slammed into Platypus' chest, throwing him back. He was in the dark room, Darkness forming in front of him. The voice whispered once more: "Remember the knife." Darkness had six arms now, each one had an end of three blades, "Ready to die?"
  11. @Wierdo Saw the title of your introduction thread and thought of this.
  12. I need to reread Beyonders sometime, but from what I recall, yeah. It was kinda funny.
  13. I like Jasnah, but only if it's from her POV, because then I get to see why she's doing the things she's doing and her perspective on it instead of Dalinar or Kaladin being horrified because she's callous sometimes. Jasnah is a great character who I want a lot more of. I fundamentally disagree with a lot of the things she does, such as that scene when she kills the thieves in the Way of Kings (mostly because I beleive that murder is wrong and that is exactly what she did in my opinion) and the way that she interacted with Shallan in Oathbringer in a scene or two. She has a different view on the world than I do, and that's entirely fine. I love seeing the ways other people think and why they act the way they do. I for one cannot wait to get more of Jasnah in book five.
  14. Beyonders is great in that way! DRAGONWATCH IS AMAZING!!!!! I am a big fan of Dragonwatch. I love the first book so much, I would uphold it as probably one of Brandon Mull's best books. I've read that one so many times. Dragonwatch is worth a read because it adds a lot to the characters and has a lot of fun story stuff and there's so much more lore thrown in. I would even say it's better than Fablehaven.
  15. It's not as bright as a Sunday.
  16. idk, but watch'u dune? (skip me)
  17. love that pfp. gives me hazbin hotel vibes. Insane/Alistor.
  18. Yeah. When I think about Seth, I primarily think about Dragonwatch because I read Dragonwatch first and the first of those books the most out of all the books in the series. I think of Fablehaven Seth as the the first arc of his that sets up his next arcs in Dragonwatch.
  19. The most boring book in the Old Testament is Numbers, fight me.
  20. Classic Stick art. Possible oc/Dionysus.
  21. Welcome to the Shard, Whatever-. Who's your favorite cosmere character?
  22. Seth is just Dalinar, Szeth and Kaladin rolled into a Leto Atreides II.
