“Sir, a worker is requesting an emergency audience with you. Said something about Sundew and plants?”
Not this again. Fish thinks he’s going to start throwing things at his secretary if he’s asked for an audience one more time today. And it’s about Sundew? That’s the last thing he wants to deal with, but he doesn’t have much of a choice – his city doesn’t run itself.
“Fine,” Fish sighs, waving to his secretary to let the worker into his office. He draws on his power, increasing his incorporeality. He's almost invisible at this point, except for his glowing yellow eyes, which serves as a great intimidation tactic. Plus, it keeps him safe, just in case this worker is actually an assassin sent by one of the many rival Epics vying for territory in this city. Not that there’s much concern for safety when almost all of his territory is spread out on a floating city about 3.5 kilometers off the shore of Lake Erie, with a tight security perimeter that hasn't let him down in a while. He’s still not really sure how almost half the city ended up out here, but it serves as a great base for someone who's more powerful the more water there is nearby.
The door opens again, and his secretary steps back in with the worker, who stares meekly at the ground.
“Uh, Fish, er, uh, sir,” The worker babbles. Fish doesn’t bother hiding how annoyed he is as he stares down at the worker. The worker clears their throat and continues. “I was walking down by the shore, and I, uh, I saw some plants, uh, I think they’re Sundew’s because they look different than, uh, normal. Sorry to bother you, sir.”
Well, that's inconvenient. Fish would rather not talk to that powerful plant Epic today (or ever again), but he can't just sit there and let Sundew break their agreement by putting her plants in his territory. He looks at his secretary. “Send this person away and send a messenger to Sundew. I’ll meet her at the closest dock in three hours.”
“Three hours?!” His secretary looks shocked. “Sir, that’s not enough time to get a message to Sundew! Last time we sent a messenger, they never came back!”
“Is that a problem?” Fish asks, irritated already. His secretary wisely doesn't respond. The recent increase in Epic activity in the mainland part of the city has had Fish on edge for days now, and he might just start killing people if they keep annoying him. “Find a way to get a message to Sundew, otherwise you can be the one who meets with her.”
