Taln’s blade theory (Wind and Truth prologue spoilers).
Ashbringer replied to slavagh's topic in Stormlight Archive
I mean, it is a prebuilt adventure. My guess with these types of things is there will be a canon “answer”, that is essentially whatever would have happened had the Players not interfered in events. Or possibly, the Blade is already stolen when the Players arrive and they have to decide what to do about it. Taln’s Honorblade is too powerful of an item to just disappear in the canon. -
What Vasher was doing during the occupation.

Oooh, good find. Although, I wonder if that's more specific to lerasium than to anti-Investiture in general. My personal explanation for lerasium creating Mistborn as a "side effect" is that lerasium does its thing, then grafts the Preservation-Investiture to the burner's soul, which is basically what being a Mistborn is - if it was anti-lerasium, you'd basically be grafting anti-Investiture to your own non-anti-soul, which... yeah ouch. But if it's the only thing we've got, then yeah I'd imagine mixing anti-Investiture with normal people would be a bad thing. Just somewhat of a question of if raysium is capable of it, and what happens if they are Invested. If it's gradual enough, yes. But one gram of matter annihilating is the same energy release as a nuke going off; spreading that energy release over a minute or so is still quite "rapid". We have no idea how well Investiture to energy goes - based on the fact Navani's researchers didn't wipe Urithiru off the map when they mixed the two Voidlights, I'd assume it's not quite the same potential. But we also don't really know how much Investiture is in a sphere compared to a soul (Sunlit Man's BEUs is a start but we need a Breath->Voidlight conversion). I'm guessing it's because the actual annihilation is occurring on the Spiritual realm, not the Physical like the spheres would be. ... this is a little off topic of the thread Maybe Vasher was in the Spiritual Realm to take a look at anti-Investiture in souls? -

Xino's dead, Jim Anyway. I think Lego is a golem; weirdly now, I don't think Aeternum is. Lego's, Araris's, and RBM's rules all seemed to be an always-on thing. Aet's claimed one is a once-per-cycle, do a thing that people sometimes just do anyway. @Aeternum seems to be on the level so far, but I am curious, are you the Librarian? (I was looking for another piece of evidence but with Xino fully dead I doubt we'll see it if it was there.)- 144 replies

Ah. I thought it had been with anti-Stormlight. Then I don't think we have an answer to that question - what happens to a non-Cognitive Shadow when they're stabbed with anti-Investiture, whether Invested or not? Souls are Investiture, but I'd been under the impression that anti-Investiture was somewhat specific to attacking Shadows. And I doubt raysium can drain a soul directly, because if it could then it would probably drain the Radiant Bond itself rather than just Stormlight, and the daggers themselves would be the weapon that Raboniel was looking for. Also there... really should still be an explosion. Investiture is still being annihilated; that should result in a massive release of energy (or matter). Unless that's what that smoke was? Or the release is occurring in the Cognitive/Spiritual realms. (Also I'd always thought Singers kept their Voidlight in their gemheart, but I suppose the knife was reacting with her loose soul and not her pressurized gemheart.) Although raysium on its own could probably kill Vasher even easier than it killed Jezrien, now that I'm thinking about it. -

Anti-Investiture also seems a bit inconsistent, iirc - Raboniel stabbed Moash with anti-Stormlight and all it seemed to do was drain his own Stormlight rather than explode him, and it doesn’t react to raysium. -
Ch 6, further evidence in favor of Ishar being the Stormfaker
Ashbringer replied to Sspifffyman's topic in Cosmere Discussion
A few things on this - Moelach is really easy to track. The Diagram has an outside interest in the Death Rattles, where they are, where they're going, and Moelach seems to be like Nergaoul/Ashertmarn where these things just kind of happen around them, with limited control over it. Yelig-Nar, for instance, was also in Kholinar without being called out, and Dai-Gonarthis and Cheomarish are still MIA (although probably at least one's in Shinovar). I think also, Ishar seems to have been sane for most of time - or at least, Ash-level insane and not God-Priest-of-Tukar-and-also-the-Almighty-and-Bondsmith insane. This whole literal god complex is new. And when you're a Herald who's lived for seven thousand years, and known Ishar to be a sane and upstanding guy for most of those millenia, the eight/ten years of him going completely insane is hard to rationalize, like if someone you know for a really long time has One Bad Day and just suddenly snaps. Worse than that, because we've already seen with Heralds (mostly Nale bringing Skybreakers to safehouses full of rotten food) that they really don't have a good sense of the passage of time. Something changed with Ishar, and I doubt it's a coincidence that it happened right after another Herald died. (Also, as I recall it's at least partially Ishar's fault that they had to flee from Ashyn in the first place.) I agree, I'm an excellent source to pinpoint insanity... waitaminute. -

We also know that BAM has some measure of power over Connection - she Connected to singers everywhere as a race, and when she was bound she ripped the Connection right out of most of them (and also broke Radiant bonds somehow). -
Dalinar falling to Odium is likely enough on its own to do some heavy damage, especially if he takes the Stormfather down with him. That, or he ends up trying to / being forced into doing some Connection shenanigans and makes whatever happened to BAM and the singers look like a Spiritual paper cut, like a certain Warlight-colored hunch. However, I don't think we have any idea why the Sleepless think that Dalinar will destroy them. As far as we know, they don't have access to anything that would allow them future sight (as this was written during TWoK, where only the barest fragments of Odium's influence were approaching. It could be that the Sleepless are more Cognitively aware, and thus had a better idea what could be coming? Or maybe the swarms know enough to know whatever-it-was that happened when a Herald died. One thing on this - I don't actually imagine Taravangian having control over Dalinar is nearly as bad as Rayse would be. We will see what Taravangian's play is, but he seems to be pretty well situated in "terrible things for the greater good" - which is, you know, still terrible, but it's a good sight better than Rayse's "terrible things because I'm a terrible person". Rayse would probably torture Dalinar, Taravangian would use him to "save them all". Not exactly good, but... well, Mistborn Era 1 also ended with a measure of closure, just not the closure most of us wanted.

Mid-Range Game 70 - Ankh You!
Ashbringer replied to The Unknown Medallion's topic in Sanderson Elimination
Well, that didn't go well. I have been busy with things, work, friends, but also I really... I don't know. I spent a good while and I thought I had some things figured out about this, but now I'm thinking I don't actually have things figured out at all, and I'm also thinking one of the things I may had figured out is something I should probably just not be talking about. (Edit: I'm being vague with this. Somewhat intentionally. Maybe someone's got the same hunch I do but I think what I've maybe figured out is something that shouldn't be spread around so freely.) I still think something's off with Aet. But no one else seems to agree, and now I'm thinking I'm just seeing things that aren't there. Idk. I'll check again in the morning; next cycle I hypothetically have more time but that's a pattern I get into too often, so I don't want to make a promise.- 144 replies

Ch 6, further evidence in favor of Ishar being the Stormfaker
Ashbringer replied to Sspifffyman's topic in Cosmere Discussion
At minimum, around the time when Shallan was young and killed her mother (whether she was Chana or not). Her mom was associating with Skybreakers at the time, and that's allegedly why she freaked when she found out Shallan was Radiant. I thought that the Heralds were made into CSs by virtue of the Oathpact, and thus continued in as shadows from then on. Otherwise Moash would become a Cognitive Shadow over the year between OB and RoW (and maybe Szeth as well). Maybe a minor distinction, but it doesn't seem to be tied to the Honorblades specifically. But if they were crafted as a continuing part of their soul, then abandoned, I could see that contributing to the damage. I don't think Ishar specifically is the Storm-faker, but I also think the extent of his insanity is strange compared to the other Heralds (save Taln, but Taln makes sense... mostly). Kalak/Battar/Pailiah/Nale/Shalash are all around and talking to people, Jezrien was a bit more insane but seemed mostly... normal-insane, not I-am-the-Almighty-and-now-rule-Tukar insane. Something probably happened when the Herald died, if it was Ishar or not. Maybe he saw the "they mustn't see" that the Storm"father" mentioned... -
Mid-Range Game 70 - Ankh You!
Ashbringer replied to The Unknown Medallion's topic in Sanderson Elimination
Welp. Was planning on writing something up, but now it’s far too late at night when I need to get up earlier in the morning than I’m used to. I do have some thoughts. I’m staying on RBM, because I do want to solve that slot and I don’t personally see a role that forces you to claim Elim and/or has ambiguity as to what your alignment is. As for the other things… I actually am leaning towards believing Araris. I think if we’re looking for an E-Golem, I want to look at Aet a bit more. I’ve got a bit of a hunch on that but it depends on this game being more than Oops! All Thugs. (And… Lips? Don’t know who that is in-story.) -
Mid-Range Game 70 - Ankh You!
Ashbringer replied to The Unknown Medallion's topic in Sanderson Elimination
RBM I think next cycle will indeed clear up your alignment If you’re a Golem, what’s your rule? I’m curious. Edit: I do think there’s some possibility of secret rules, or even Neutral ones (DEATH?). But I don’t think we can do what we happened in the LG and stall for an extra cycle. That didn’t end well. -
Theory: Lift is a Bondsmith
Ashbringer replied to SwordNimiForPresident's topic in Cosmere Discussion
Kalak just says he knows weird things happen when weird things happen to Nahel bonds, and that there were rules against having two bonds. Not very definitive. Kalak’s thing is being not very definitive, kind of. As for the Fused, more of an example of them not knowing everything about each Radiant. … I’m not arguing against your point? My point is that the Ghostbloods trying to capture Dalinar would probably go really, really badly for the Ghostbloods, because he either pulls a Bondsmith and Connects to their past to fight them, or pulls a Blackthorn and Connects their insides to their outsides. Lift could fit. Especially if she actually is a Bondsmith and could pull more power than we expect. Even direct Mass->Investiture would be incredibly valuable to them. But as far as we know, it wouldn’t work very well. TLM/Cosmere Also, Mraize did capture Lift, then he traded her away. It seemed more about the sport to him. -
We've got evidence of a double spren bond with Shallan, it seems like it could happen. I think the odds are low, but it could. Kaladin's fairly Bondsmithy compared to some. Now I want to see the Windrunners flying Dalinar into Shadesmar to pick up Gallant...

Mid-Range Game 70 - Ankh You!
Ashbringer replied to The Unknown Medallion's topic in Sanderson Elimination
Executed is (usually) the result of the vote we do in thread. Whoever has the most votes is (usually) executed, that's the Village way of removing Elims. Except in this case a role or another, most likely Lipwig, used an ability to change a vote and who the exe targeted. Hence why RBM has two vote-names but three vote-numbers next to them. NKs are other kills, usually the Elim factional Kill. Also the (The) Librarian Kill in this game. -
Mid-Range Game 70 - Ankh You!
Ashbringer replied to The Unknown Medallion's topic in Sanderson Elimination
I find that hard to believe. Because if I'm reading the writeup right, you were executed, not NKed. I'm pretty sure only a Golem can survive that. Seems like Lipwig wanted you gone. Edit: Not sure why it turned into a face. Also RBM could be a secret role, maybe. -

I think this is true. Depends if Taravangian can still be bound to an oath with Taravangian, and if Taravangian didn't break his end of the oath to Rayse by... er... killing him.- 24 replies

Theory: Lift is a Bondsmith
Ashbringer replied to SwordNimiForPresident's topic in Cosmere Discussion
Today's reading does seem to suggest that double-bonds shouldn't exist, or that rules existed to make them not exist. And the Fused also seemed to think Shallan was an Elsecaller for a while. Going to guess the answer is somewhere along the lines of "hunting the Blackthorn leads to a really bad day for Mraize". Even Nale's scared of Dalinar. Could also want a Bondsmith Lift for the same (surface) reason they want BAM - easy perpetual source of Investiture. Lift's not as good as Dalinar is for that, or BAM probably is, but a similar idea. Assuming the GBs don't want BAM for some other reason. I think it's possible, but unlikely - more her own strange things. For one thing, Lift hasn't really shown the sense of Unity that Dalinar (and Navani) have. -
Wind and Truth: Chapters 5 and 6
Ashbringer replied to CtrlAltDepressed's topic in Cosmere Discussion
Ash (the Herald Shalash, not me) gets one as well. Although that one's lined up to be the Dustbringer book which... is odd for the Lightweaver Herald. Or Odium and Cultivation. Or, more likely, Kaladin and Szeth. It does say that it's the writer who has only two sources, not everyone in existence, and the cleansing is what Szeth seems to be planning to do in Shinovar. I do think the Heralds "vanishing" isn't as definitive as it seems. It could be that the Oathpact in some form is restored and the Heralds simply return to Braize, or they lose their Herald-ness, or something else happens. -

... I feel like removing half the players on D1 is probably not the play? I mean I've never actually seen that happen, so it would be interesting, but... also how about no. Experience. Mostly because I want to tiebreak, but also of the tiebreakees, you expressed disagreement with the tie without changing it. Also, I'll probably not be awake for rollover - or might be working during rollover. I'm not really sure. ... huh. That explains some. And also feels targeted- 144 replies
