The other one was also an antihero. Rashek, the Lord Ruler. Yes, I'm comparing Dalinar to the Lord Ruler.

Wind and Truth was just too darn sad.

[referring to the difference or similarity between promise and oath.] I agree that this was Brandon's intent. I don't think he did a great job with that. -

Is it worth mentioning that "oath" and "promise" are synonyms? Merriam-Webster lists promise as the first synonym of oath. -
Really? You forgot her defeating three armed men back in Thaylen City so quickly? She's a freaking Bondsmith, remember? She defeated the last really good villain in the Stormlight Archive, Raboniel. She can't swordfight that we've seen, but so what? It would be narrative-fatal for Dalinar to remain alive. He's dead, or the SA as a story is.

One point not mentioned yet, but the Cosmere has the Dune Effect: one future-predictor finds it very difficult or impossible to predict the actions of another future-predictor. Thus, two atium users negate each other's advantage.

Wind and Truth Full Book Reactions (Cosmere Edition)
Nitpicking replied to LewsTherinTelescope's topic in Cosmere Discussion
Honor never had a problem with Odium. Tanavast hated Rayse (for good reason). Odium itself came to agree with Tanavast! But only a couple of those characters are Alethi, IIRC. We also have one asexual character (Jasnah) and one nonbinary one, Rushu. The Sibling is not Alethi. Rushu is an Ardent, a social category specifically created for people who don't fit into normal roles, and Jasnah is a defiant rebel against Vorinism and its rules. -
https://coinpedia.org/research-report/the-libra-memecoin-scam-inside-the-presidential-pump-and-dump-that-led-to-a-4-billion-crash/ Someone should tell Brandon. He should sue.

I deny that it's Honor's perpendicularity. I think Dyel's mother (and maybe her spren Uma) are just wrong about that. Honor's is the only perpendicularity they've seen or heard of.

Yes, phycology (the study of algae) is very primitive on Roshar. Even our natural historian, Shallan, doesn't devote much time or effort to it. It's quite disappointing. -
"Several" means "more than one".

So, if you (like me) think Syl will in some manner replace the Stormfather, will that make Kaladin a Bondsmith? I would think so. Would he still be a Windrunner? I kind of think he would. So, a Windrunner/Bondsmith/Herald. I suspect even Ba-Ado-Mishram would be a bit impressed.

This is the Cosmere spoiler area, but I'm going to spoiler warn the preview chapters of Isles of the Emberdark anyway: -
@PeterAhlstrom, off topic, but is the kh in words like "Kharbranth" meant to be pronounced as voiceless velar fricative, as in German ch? I seem to recall Brandon saying on a podcast that you're the linguist on the Dragonsteel team.

How do you feel about inter-species…
Nitpicking replied to christianrapper's topic in Cosmere Discussion
I am of the school zoology majors who think H. sapiens is a single species that includes subspecies neanderthalensis and sapiens. The majority of biologists disagree with me, FWIW, but it's a defensible position. Ligers (lion x tigress) and tiglons (tiger x lioness) do tend to be sterile. The more famous example of almost-cross-compatible species would be horses and donkeys, giving rise to mules (stallion x jenny) and hinnies (jackass x mare). -

You missed a reference. @bmcclure7 said: The buggers are an alien race in Orson Scott Card's Ender's Game and its many sequels and universe-sharing stories. They really are something like giant hive-mind insects. -
Iriali hair isn't blond. It's metallic gold.
-
I don't necessarily believe it, but remember that the Iriali left during the Great Time Distortion that would make their trip longer. I suspect what happened is just that not all the Iriali of Roshar went to the same world. What if each caravan went to a different place?

But he does. WaT chapter 142.

Brandon says that WaT is physically the largest book Tor could print. -
Also, it's established that Navani is a trained lower-case-s singer. She's just plain better at music. I wonder if there's a magic system somewhere on Roshar that uses music and dance in time with the Rhythms to produce magical effects, the way there's a martial art on Sel that involves forming symbols with your body.

Hoid has limited access to Fortune. He mostly knows where to go, seemingly, but not the shape of the future.
-
As discussed on the most recent Shardcast, it seems to be that Splinters/Slivers of a Shard find it hard to leave the system where that Shard is Connected very strongly. When Honor, Cultivation, and Odium disconnect from Roshar at the end of WaT, suddenly the spren can leave. Presumably, the three Old Gods (Night, Stone, Wind) can't.
-
It's in Mistborn: Secret History. He physically can't leave Scadrial in the Cognitive Realm. OK, maybe "physically" is the wrong word.
