Concerto hissed. "One of those? Coward. Fight with your claws!"

Chorale stepped into the clearing and gasped. "Concerto?"

He spun. "Chorale! Apparently Kade's also a liar. Get away!"

Kade smirked. "I'm assuming you mean: Chorale! Apparently Kade's also liar, like myself!"

You distracted him with the gun, now let me pin him.

En took control. Firing the pistol into the air, then changing back into a leopard and lunging at Concerto.

Okie, a while ago I got an idea for an rp, I put it out the idea on another thread, and I gave myself one requirement: The worldbuilding had to be simple...

    So, I lied.

Where we stand now it's eight pages, and I'll be adding more later.

    Spoiler

    Kellyce

For your convenience I have tried to arrange the information coherently, but once again this is me we’re talking about, so don’t expect too much.

Now let’s get on with the good stuff:

    Planetary Climate

This world is called Kellyce, it’s a tidally locked planet (Think Taldain.) For those of you not familiar with the concept, it means that you live on a planet that doesn’t rotate. In other words there is a dayside and a nightside, one side is always light, the other is always dark. And most importantly, humans cannot live on either side. Temperatures are extreme to say the least, with the temperature on the nightside averaging in the negatives and the dayside averaging at boiling temp.

    Very hospitable.

Because of these extremes two main things are worth noting. One, national schedules are generally non-existent. People sleep when they want and work when they want, you can’t waste daylight if you’re never gonna lose it. (Or have it in the first place.)

Two, humans have congregated around the northern pole, where temperatures are not lethal. Yes, one side is still day, and the other is still night, but currents circulate water, and keep temperatures liveable.

    Magic & Other Paranormal Stuffses

Before I go any further I may want to explain the magic system… All five nations, Aletoria, New Ganson, the Sunset Isles, Yaehl, and Kaialis, have a distinct magical ability, or multiple, attributed to them and their population.

To have access to Esidii based magical abilities [see below] you must be born with them.

A note on subsets: You can either have the main magical ability or it’s subset, you cannot have both.

While using Esidii based magic, your reactions steadily heighten into greater and greater overreactions, until eventually the smallest thing can make you flip out, or bring you to tears. It takes time, but eventually it happens. Magically manipulating something requires eye contact. Though magne-sight can also work. The moment you take your eyes off what you are manipulating it stops working.

Esidii plants: Esidii plants grow orbs that fuel magic, along with making excellent kindling. They’ve only been domesticated and mass farmed in Kaialis, though they can be found elsewhere. They are grown in coastal waters. To activate an orb, they are simply squeezed in the palm of one’s hand.

Fuel: Most magic is fueled by orbs of the Esidii plant. Unlike most magic systems, once fuel has been activated, Esidii based magic can be used nearly indefinitely, working similar to the jumpstarting of a car. After popping an orb, a magic user is able to use magic for hours on end, until they have a lapse in concentration, by sleeping, getting hurt badly, etc. etc.

    Kaialis: Force redirection: White

Change the direction that kinetic energy is pushing. Essentially the ability to take the force of a ball that hit you in the face, and send it wherever you please, channeling it through your hands or feet. You still lose force and energy in the transfer though.

Subset: Pulling things toward you. If you throw/roll an object away from you, you will be able to pull something else towards you.

Subset: Literally Iron man repulsors. The ability to send out strong force from hands and feet. One of the few Esidii based abilities that causes an almost immediate drain in physical strength and energy.

    Aletoria: Magnetism: Blue

This is not like regular fantasy magnetism… You cannot pick a single sword and pull it towards you while ignoring countless other metal objects, or push off the ground by dropping a coin while your metal belt buckle stays attached to you. This is simply the ability to polarize metal by rearranging their electrons. Be realistic, magnets are very strong at close distances. (Like an inch or two, while

While manipulating Magnetic energy, you’re able to see electrons as glowing blue specs. This allows you see movement through walls, and

Subset: Electric manipulation. You can’t quite shoot lightning from your fingers, but you do have a hand taser.

    Yaehl : Friction manipulation: Yellow

Friction. Yeah. That’s it. You can manipulate friction, though not quite to the extant that Lift can. You still can do things like climb up walls, slide under things with ease, and trap a person

    Subset: Obstruction.

The ability to cause air/water to become so frictionous that it is practically solid. This ability does not cover a large area.

    New Ganson: Heat manipulation: Red

Very simple. Heat manipulation, you can make things very hot or very cold.

Subset: Phase changing, the ability to change the state of matter an object is in. Note that the process of condensing air and water is significantly easier than the opposite, changing solids and liquids to gasses, the act of changing solids can take a very long time.

    Esidar forging:

Using an Esidii orb and an Opal, you can create an Esidar, a special gemstone that, when activated, creates the effect caused by the ability of the person who made it. It requires special machinery, so you can’t do it on the fly. You can create devices around it, to activate it, and other equipment that utilizes the ability of the gemstone. Such as handcuffs that can’t come off, or a knife that can melt through metal.

    The Chosen:

Now, most magic users are only able to access one magical ability, (not counting the trades.) But, for each main nation (besides the Sunset Isles) there is one individual who has access to all Esidii based abilities, including subsets. These few are called the Chosen, and being one of the Chosen is generally viewed as having the divine right to rule, because the ability is hereditary, only passing to an heir after the old Chosen has died, most rulers are either a Chosen, or have one of the Chosen in their innermost circle.

    The Sunset Isles: Trading: Purple

The last ability is quite the outlier among the group of magical abilities, while the others are powered by Esidar and are, for the most part, understood, the abilities of The Sunset Isles are the odd one out of the group, they are not powered by Esidii, and anyone can have access to them. It is essentially giving up one of your five senses for another ability. You can trade as many of your senses as you like:

    Sight: Mind reading

This is simple. The ability to hear the thoughts in the heads of those around you, and see through their eyes. If an esidar user is using esidii, they will be rendered immune to both of these abilities. Same with anyone in direct contact with an opal.

    Smell: Increased healing

Yes, you can heal faster, but... I never said how much faster.

If you trade your sense of smell, you will be able to heal twelve-point-five percent faster. A wound that would’ve taken 8 weeks will now take seven, in other words, somewhat useless. (I lied. This is actually useful, it’s just… For the long game.)

    Touch: Increased strength

Before I say anything else, I wanted to specify that touch includes things like pain, temperature, and the general ability to feel things. The other thing I feel is worth saying is that increased strength does not mean increased healing, or skin and muscle durability. This is by far the least common trade, seeing as how you will have no idea if you are injured or not.

    Taste: Increased Nutrient Absorbance

Taste is useless most of the time, so naturally I gave it an ability that would also be useless most of the time. For the price of never being able to taste your food again, you will be able to absorb more nutrients from food than you would otherwise! (This is also actually useful… Just not for doing pro/antagonist stuff…)

    Hearing: Illusions

Once again very simple. You can create illusions for the small cost of your ability to hear things. Though it should be noted that said illusions will not hold up under scrutiny, and really only work for subterfuge when not inspected.

    Anodal:

Anodal is a term used to refer to equipment made from leviathan (giant sea serpent) scales and teeth, dsena (imagine this as a cross between a maned wolf, and a bear, that’s the size of an elephant) claws and teeth, and roc (big bird on steroids) talons. It’s value resides in the fact that when it breaks the skin of a magic user (Esidii user or otherwise) it neutralizes their ability to use magic. (It also neutralizes when ground up into powder and inhaled.) Anodal’s temperature and friction cannot be manipulated, and if you’re hit with anodal, you cannot redirect the force from the impact.

Recent Events You Should Probably Know About (These Topic Titles Are Getting Really Long, I Should Really Try And Shorten Them)

The setting for this, is after an successful assassination attempt was made on Queen Korianal Nakadan of Kaialis. It occurred when Gansonian assassins, backed up by the heirs to the throne, and some nobles, murdered the queen and a large portion of her court in a massive explosion. This event, later named the ignition, has caused a conflict, global in scale, to fill the power vacuum in Kaialis.

The murder was incited by the Queen’s increasingly erratic behavior. After an assassination attempt was made by her eldest daughter, she began eliminating potential heirs. And because she was Kaialis’s Chosen she proclaimed herself a god. (The belief that the Chosen were deities, was hardly an original one, but the act of proclaiming it was frowned upon.) These actions, coupled with the fact that she’d already had major border disputes with Aletoria, and New Ganson, she regularly held mass executions, and was extremely paranoid, made her immensely unpopular, setting the stage for her assassination.

After the Ignition Kaialis fell into chaos. The two remaining heirs to the throne vanished. Nobles seized whatever they could, foreign powers invaded, and industries collapsed. In a few spots nobles have managed to keep order, but for the most part anarchy reigns.

It has been six months after the ignition, and here is the world map:

    Other Factions

Besides Aletoria and Yaehl, there are three other factions vying for control of Kaialis:

    True Kaialis:

    • Backed by Aletoria
    • Controls most of the Esidii production

This faction is lead by the younger heir to the throne, (Ashein Nakadan) and is backed by Aletoria, on the agreement that if they win, Aletoria will keep their gains. They have the most public support, and are fighting a mainly guerilla war.

    Crytarix:

    • Made up of a coalition of nobles
    • Currently losing ground

    Nothing much to say here…

    Kuvon

    • A theocracy
    • Made up of religious zealots

Kuvon is currently the most favored to win Kaialis. Their forces are efficient and coordinated. Headed by a high priestess, they steamrolled through northern Kaialis, but are now looked in a standstill with Yaehlian troops. A large part of their effectiveness can be attributed to an elite force known as the Veris. (If you need a frame of reference think northern European Janissaries.)

    To be continued...

    Rules:

    • Follow Shard guidelines
    • Stay in the lines of semi-realism, when someone has a knife to your back it's hard to run away without getting stabbed
    • Be chill
    • If you wanna talk to people in the thread use quote or spoiler boxes
    • Also, you are all completely allowed to murder each other. So...

If you have any questions about the worldbuilding, or anything like that, feel free to ask...

Note the world will be moving around your characters, and I'll try to update the maps along with it.

    Let's get on with it!

    Six months earlier

Lisia walked through the heart of a dying empire. Smoke billowed into the dark sky, emanating from the ruins of the palace. The night air was frigid, and every breath was punctuated by a steam cloud. Of course in Kaialis, it was always night.

    "Lis, where's Kori?"

Her brother stood in the shadow of a building, cloaked, and carrying a satchel. His hood was up and his features were covered, but his voice was clearly distinguishable.

Lisia shoved her guilt down. "Asher, Kori's gone..."

He hung his head, evidently sad, but at the same time, not surprised. He then looked upwards, his hood falling off his face. "We need to leave."

She nodded, then indicated towards the rooftops.

Asher shot upwards, force streaming from his fingertips, Lisia followed.

Upon landing, their pace sped up, as they made their way towards the edge of Anialix.

From the rooftops the scene of destruction was made clear. The palace, once a gleaming mix of spires and arches, had been reduced to flaming rubble. Looking down at the streets below them, Lisia could see throngs of people fleeing. Most thought that another purge would ensue, the kind that had happened after every assassination attempt. They were wrong of course. Lisia could only wish there would be a purge, the outcome of her actions was much, much worse.

They'd known what would happen, they knew that Kaialis would collapse if they blew the fuse.

    They did it anyway.

"Lis! Ash! Stay where you are!"

Three figures, two in armor, walked leapt the rooftop in front of them.

Lisia drew a shortsword, and glared. "What do you want Dera?"

The woman at their head smiled. "Lis, we're taking you two back to New Ganson."

She drew a thinblade. "Resist and we'll kill both of you."

Asher raised his hands, slowly looking in Lisia's direction.

Lisia walked backwards, sheathing her sword.

Dera smirked, and the two assassins behind her began to advance.

Lisia jumped off the roof, reducing friction, and falling down. Slamming into the earth, she redirected the force upwards, blasting energy out of her hands, and sent herself soaring upwards. Drawing her sword, she landed deftly on the rooftop, and slid into a battle stance.

Dera laughed. “Lis, you’re not going to win. We both remember what happened last time.”

Lisia gritted her teeth. “Some things have changed since then.”

Dera extended her thinblade, then motioned for her compatriots to do likewise. “Hmm… You’ll have to elaborate before we execute you.”

Lisia drew a thin smile, then rushed one of the guards.

The man lunged at her, but Lisia easily slid under the blade, reducing her friction as she did so, casually taking out his legs from underneath him, she then finished him off with a slash of her weapon.

Realization began to dawn on Dera’s face. “You didn’t. Kori is alive, she has to be alive.”

Lisia once again shoved her guilt down. She could grieve later. “Kori is gone. Just like your about to be.”

Dera's other escort ran at Lisia, bearing down on her with a short spear and shield.

Batting away the woman's swipe of her weapon, Lisia extended her empty hand onto the guard's chestpiece. Immediately friction spread over it, trapping the guard in immovable armor.

Lisia finished her off, in a similar fashion to the first guard.

Dera stood, wide eyed, evidently shocked by how quickly her companions had been dispatched.

"You won't kill me Lis, you're not strong enough."

Lisia walked up to her, sword arm extended, bringing her weapon to Dera's unarmored chest.

"I have seen my family crumble around me... My older brother stabbed before my eyes. My mother killed by my actions."

She rammed the weapon into Dera, then tore it out. Watching the woman collapse.

"Don't ever tell me I'm not strong enough."

She turned to her brother, and the left, soon arriving at the city gate, where a carriage awaited them.

As the wheels began turning, and Anialix began shrinking behind them, Lisia though about what she'd done. Who she'd killed.

    She'd killed a god.

  3. 1 hour ago, The Ookla's Guard said:

"Yes, that was a smart move. I'll send a few of my squads with you for now. Do you mind if I meet with the town-lord before I come with you? I have a small matter that must be settled."

Quinn glanced at him, annoyed. "What part of dangerous war criminal do you not understand?"

  4. On 12/14/2020 at 7:39 PM, Ookla the Grammatical said:

Concerto heard movement from behind Kade and narrowed his eyes. "What, planning a sneak attack? That's against the rules."

Chorale could hear a voice. It sounded... familiar.

Kade smiled, turning back to his human form, and drawing a pistol. "Oh no, this won't be a sneak attack."

He pulled back the hammer, and aimed for Concerto. "Gunshots are quite loud."

  5. 10 hours ago, The Ookla's Guard said:

The colonel stood up straighter again, a glare escaped his mask as he regarded Quinn. "What would you have me do? Have my men search? They are already doing that. If this war criminal is still in town, then our best shot is to alert the garrison, they know this place better than my soldiers do." Tulcam paused. "More importantly, why should I be taking orders from you? I have my mission, and I-"

Quinn smirked. "I already have a read on his location, we tagged Kane while he was imprisoned."

She pulled a pistol from her belt, and turned to walk off. "You coming? Or not?"

  6. 20 minutes ago, The Ookla's Guard said:

The colonel took a deep breath. "Tell the captain that he is to write out a full report about this, and then submit it to command. Be sure to alert the garrison about him. If he's still here, then they will find him. My authority ended over the ship when I disembarked, it's up to the captain now."

Quinn strode up behind the sailor, pushing him to the side.

"But this is no longer the navy's jurisdiction, colonel." She stared at him condescendingly.

"This prisoner is a extremely dangerous war criminal, I would expect a colonel, such as yourself, to take responsibility for his capture, and confinement."

    Quote

@00kla, what if the operation was a joint Sabirian/Raodean mission? Then everything works out.

  7. 14 minutes ago, The Ookla's Guard said:

The colonel turned, his face turning stern. "Escaped, how?"

The man put a hand to the back of his neck, evidently embarassed.

"Umm... We're not sure. His cell door was open, and it seems to have been opened by a keycard."

  8. 18 minutes ago, The Ookla's Guard said:

The colonel turned solemn as he brought up the offensive, snapping out of the brief episode when Maddy spoke. "Of course, I'll talk with Douger as soon as I can." The colonel leaned towards Maddy, lowering his voice so that only she could hear, "thank you."

A sailor ran up to the colonel, panting.

    "Sir, the captive has escaped."

  9. 17 minutes ago, 00kla said:

Jay walks out of an alley towards Cadenza and the rest. "Lost her. I just hope she stays safe. Lloyd should be able to stay with her, so nothing too bad can happen."

    Quote

Well Quinn is with the Sabirian military, and you said they were near Talongarde, so I kinda assumed...

  10.

Kane walked through a nameless Raodean city with a spring in his step, and covered in water.

Once the firefight had started, it had been a simple matter to get his undercover operative to hand him a keycard, then jump off the ship, and swim to shore.

He figured he had at least an hour before his disappearance was noticed, and he wanted to use that time to it's fullest.

"Kane! Good to see you." Xenia strode up behind him, hands in her pockets. "Been swimming I see."

Kane grinned, falling back to walk in pace with her. "Yeah, water's nice this time of year." He paused, checking his watch. "How much time we need?"

She nodded to a hotel, walking into it. He followed.

"Shouldn't be more than two hours. We can get you back to the authorities in no time." Xenia walked to an elevator, pushing in the necessary code. "How has prison been?"

    Kane shrugged. "Same as always."

    She snorted. "And Quinn?"

He stiffened, evidently uncomfortable. "Also the same as always."

Xenia raised an eyebrow. "Bad, huh?"

Kane shrugged, feeling relieved as the elevator doors opened, ending the conversation.

"I've contacted some attorney's and they agree that the case is winnable. We just need your custom bravado, and some prayers that Quinn doesn't close off press coverage." They walked out of the elevator, and opened the door into the suite that the Talon had rented out.

He grabbed a towel, and began to dry his hair, his grin returning.

"Quinn will be of no worry, the yevon your team corrupted will draw her attention."

Xenia sighed. "You sure? I doubt Quinn would get distracted from the case."

Kane's grin widened. "Trust me on this, getting Sabirian support will be easy, all we need to do, is win this case, then Myria will be ours."

    Quote

And the lesson here kids, is that even when you are an international terrorist organization, you should never doubt the power of a lawsuit, and high public approval rating. (Public approval rating only matters in a democracy, though. Oh wait...)

I just revealed my entire plan.
