Why are the Bondsmiths OP and not the Windrunner's?
mathiau replied to ShardplateJoe III's topic in Cosmere Discussion
The Stormfather is much bigger than the other two and the Sibling is a they Nope I suspect Elsecaller are among the ones who don't get squires- 22 replies

Are cognetive shadows not the only type? [cosmere] [discuss]
mathiau replied to something's topic in Cosmere Discussion
Yes, and since these two things are more on the Cognitive side I think she created a Spren and attached it to the Empror's body. Basically she forged a Fused into existence (or more accurately the Dor version of a Returned, since he needs daily intakes of Dor vial the stamps)- 10 replies

What's going on with the lifespren near Lasting Integrity?
mathiau replied to mdross81's topic in Cosmere Discussion
The identity of the Expanse of Vibrance is not actually confirmed to be Nalthis but we don't have a better guess (like Taldain was our best guess for the Expanse of the Broken Sky before RoW). Anyway if it is Nalthis it will be because of vibrant colours, not because of vibrations Probably not, green shouldn't pulse on Nalthis anymore than steel does on Scadrial (when not being burned/stored/ect) -
Because Brandon said most worldhoper were not immortal
-
Actually no the WoBs aren't contradictory, it's possible for a Mistborn to burn Tanavastium but if they wanted to burn a Shardplate (invested allow of Tanavastium and Koravellium) you'd need connection to Honour and Cultivation in the same way you need a Connection to Harmony to burn Steel in which speed was stored
-
I remember a character (Hoid I think) saying that there already were Shards who had broken Oaths and paid the consequences, it's probably what happened with D&D and it's likely they had broken their oaths before Odium came to them
-
Khriss and Nahz are probably immortal, Demoux and Felt probably not
-
I know, I was disputing your counter argument Navani was able to create Towerlight without a perpendicularity and Kal did the same with stormlight. Also, Lift. Also there's no indication that there is not a perpendicularity in Taldain's sun
-
I don't follow your reasoning, the idea that the lichen becomes white because it was fed by investiture (a bit like a sunflower raising it's head when the sun shines) is still perfectly valid and there's still no reason for radiants to be able to reclaim it. Nothing, the metal is just the key to open the power, it doesn't emit any power by itself. I think it'd slowly become white from the investiture that's feeding the Elantrian.
-
That's not necessarily true, it could also be transparent gaseous investiture emitted by Taldain's sun

It's almost certain Mraize has access to either A-Zinc or A-Brass

dawnshard Let's make groups of four, RoW edition
mathiau replied to mathiau's topic in Cosmere Discussion
I read it wrong and missed the "no more than" part  What passage imply "Remaking better" but Ruin would consider matter with higher entropy to be better so you're probably still right That's not stupid, I think it's more a case of Sazed trying tu understand the intent and hitting slightly of the mark but you could be right -

dawnshard Let's make groups of four, RoW edition
mathiau replied to mathiau's topic in Cosmere Discussion
I think I found a WoB saying that both Ruin and Cultivation are Internal Shards and Preservation is an external Shard I don't think we ever got to a consensus, my personal conclusion is that if Rysn is right about Change being the same thing as Remake (which I find unlikely) then there has to be a Destroy/Diminish Dawnshard and if she's wrong then both conscept are already in Change Note that Ruin is more about Irreversibility than Destruction, destruction of everything is just a mean to for him archive Irreversibility just like Vin uses destruction for Protection (I'm convinced Vin's version of Preservation was closer to Protection than Stasis, contrary to Lera's one) It's cannon Cultivation is the Shard the most compatible with Ruin -
what are the other dawn shards?
mathiau replied to Thaidakar the Ghostblood's topic in Cosmere Discussion
The main issue with that is that in the Cosmere energy is conserved which make such things as a "destroy" or "delete" dawnshard unlikely- 27 replies

So we have: Folorian, an archivist and 2nd oath Lightweaver with no fighting training, a weird Nightwatcher curse and has barely started learing to soulcast Adilie, a duralumin compounder NullBlade, an Aluminium savant with a deadblade and an aluminium full chainmail So what would happen is Folorian would run away from NullBlade using illusionary doubles and Adilie would try to run away from him, depending on the exact context she might manage to escape or get caught by NullBlade and quickly beaten

No problem I don't understand this sentence I think they were trying to do the same thing I've done but made a mistake with he number of gods and used 16! instead of 2^16-1 You actually could, for example the Lerasium-Harmonium alloy is our best candidate for the metal that makes people into Ferruchemists. Granted it'd be very unlikely to obtain both some (Autonomy + Dominion + Ruin)ium and some (Ruin + Devotion)ium but there are ways
-
I assure you that calculation makes sense and have a firm mathematical backing. My previous explanation on the other hand maybe not So, first we want the number of different possible God we can create, this is because Ettmetal is not an alloy of Lerasium and Atium but something both different and Allomantically viable and we have no reason to believe the fused Shard of Mercy, Cultivation and Devotion or any other would be different Number of Gods with one Shard : 16=16!/1!(16-1)! Number of Gods with two Shard, I take two Shards among the sixteen without regard for order : 16=16!/2!(16-2)! (=120) Number of Gods with two Shard, I take three Shards among the sixteen without regard for order : 16=16!/3!(16-3)! ... Number of Gods with fifteen Shards, I take fifteen Shards among the sixteen without regard for order : 15!/15!(16-15)! (=16) Number of Gods with one Shard, I take fifteen Shards among the sixteen without regard for order : 16!/16!(16-16)! (=1) So the number of Gods is Σ_k=1^16 (16!/k!(16-k)!) which is equal to Σ_k=1^16 (16!/k!(16-k)!)- 16!/0!(16-0)! (I'm not managing to make clean sum in forum so I'll have to write "sum for k going from 1 to n" by Σ_k=1^n) Since 0!=1 we have 16!/0!(16-0)!=1. For the Σ_k=1^16 (16!/k!(16-k)!) part we'll use Newton's binomial formula, Σ_k=1^n (a^k*b^(n-k)*n!/k!(n-k)!) =(a+b)^n which gives here Σ_k=1^16 (1^k*1^(n-k)*16!/k!(16-k)!)=2^16 So the number of Gods is 2^16-1 Now the number of viable Godmetal alloy. For this part we made the supposition that if you take any combination of godmetals there'd be a way to alloy them in order to make a viable metal. It is a supposition that can be argued about, in my mind the fact there is more than sixteen viable alloys of Atium suggests this hypothesis is right. Now for the actual calculation, you do the exact same reasoning as for the number of Gods but you replace every instance of 16 by 2^16-1 Is this clearer? My excuses, I thought you were only looking at r=2 which would be "a big number in an order 2 polynomial" in which case it would made made sense if it was smaller than the exponential of a significantly smaller number I'm not sure whether you mean you're summing the values for each r or if you're looking at each of them but I guess it doesn't matter since in the former case you get exactly 2^(10^21)-1 and in the latter case you get something of the order of 2^(10^21)/10^5, both of which are is far more than any number said in this thread except the insane 2^(17*(16)!) which we latter all agreed was wrong May I know the exact context of your calculation? I'm a bit surprised you're obtaining all permutations of the stars with just binomial coefficients. (though it's definitely possible I just didn't understand what you said)
-
If we hear more about Sxiteen's world before we know where he's from it won't be unsatisfying I don't know, they almost certainly originate from Yolen but we have no idea whether they left significant amount of their population on the 2nd or 3rd lands As for Ferruchemists I think they come from multiple places and most of them would not be descendants of refugees. Some are from Silverlight, other from the 17th and other are ghostblood to whom Kelsier granted that power.
-
This is the number of alloys of two distinct metals, we want the number of alloy of any (non zero) number of distinct metals so we'd have tu add the n!/(k!(n-k)!) with k from 1 to n, using Newton's binomial formula we obtain that it's (2^n)-1 Now the reason the n I used is not 16 but (2^16)-1 is because when you fuse two (or more) shards the godmetal of the new shards is not an alloy of the two previous but something new, so the number of pure god metals is the number of way to take one or more shards among 16, which from the previous paragrapher is (2^16)-1 That's quadratic and we're dealing with exponentials so I'm not surprised
