  1. Yup, agree wholeheartedly that the Shard is way friendlier than the subreddits usually. Some of those threads... *shudders* Anyhoo! Welcome to the Shard! We're the better option!
  2. Oh my god, good memory and good eye, mate!
  3. I think that we need more info on why the Unmade, Dai-Gonarthis the Black Fisher was thought to be the one behind the Scouring of Aimia as per Hessi's Mythica before removing them as a suspect.
  4. The Lopen's (I'm never calling him just Lopen again) first and last chapters in this novella were really great *Rock does a chef's kiss* Loved how Rysn handled the omens How the novella handled disability was really well done. Rysn's thoughts were really on point, other characters were handled really well here. It really took me off-guard how mature the two focus characters + one cousin were in this book The Lopen's chapter header perfection Rysn's header is on the Dawnshard cover (a Larkin) The glimpses of central Roshar and the western Makabaki region. The Stormlight books have had worldbuilding as a really strong point for them from the beginning. Huio's accidental discovery with aluminium to block a paired fabrial's movement along a certain direction is what eventually led to the Fourth Bridge! Huio's a really experimenter type, who's intelligence remains unknown because of language barrier. I could say a lot but Brandon's annotations on Reddit for the inspiration behind his character does it perfectly already! Brandon's first trans character gets a mention, it's the Reshi King, he's a Dustbringer (yeah you read that right, Dustbringer) possibly the only one not aligned with the Diagram. Also the Lopen in that entire chapter, absolutely beautiful. The Tai-Na turned out to be far more sentient than we thought. Hmm... Stormlight from different gems taste different, you say, the Lopen? That's interesting.... Fridge moment as Rysn thinks about the support network she's developed with mostly other disabled women. Vorin culture's assigned role to men, i.e. war, means there are a lot more disabled men and they can't read, most of them are Darkeyed too. I hope there's something there in place for them. Hmph, while Rushu is correct in that the Lopen is not a regular guy but a Knight Radiant, what he was before he became Radiant should also be considered: a slave, a Bridgeman, and a Herdazian living in Alethkar. His life has been much less comfortable than hers. It's really something how often Kaladin and the other Bridgemen's horrible past is glossed over by other characters to point out that they are now in a very high station in society. I was kinda disappointed by Aimia itself but then again, mystery island isn't Brandon's genre and all of the mystery of Aimia was a façade, so I suppose this fits better. But it was hyped up for so long as this mysterious place! It was kinda just another place, which was the point. I just had different expectations... And am used to more obtuse prose. I actually really liked the idea of the Greatshells coming to Akinah as the final migration point of their life cycle, shame it was a ruse though. The moment the Luckspren went underwater, I knew. The caverns were easy enough to predict. I was kind of expecting them. When you're a Sharder, you remember the small details like all the stuff recorded in the Urithiru gem archives. How intelligent are these Luckspren? On the Cognitive Realm they're called Mandras and pull boats for the spren, on the Physical they're seen with Skyeels and Greatshells like Chasmfiends and Tai-Na, making them lighter but the Aimian variety is a bit special apparently and this is why Chiri-Chiri needed to come to Aimia. Something I didn't get: was it the whole city of Akinah or just the platform that was fake? If it was the whole city then they've got a Netherlands situation there. I wonder where the Aimian fabrial is. It sounds just as impressive as Urithiru. Something to make a windswept barren area habitable. Something similar might've been in use in the Natanatan (present-day Frostlands) There are 4 Dawnshards. They were used by the original Vessels of the 16 Shards of Adonalsium to kill him by splitting him into pieces. 4 Commands each to Shatter him into 4X4 Intents. Either 1) Honor & Cultivation kept one Dawnshard or 2) it was hidden in Ashyn or Roshar Preservation was hinted to have one buried in Scadrial. He said he buried a weapon. Most people think that was just a figure of speech but others, like me, thinks he was referring to something else. It's entirely possible that a Dawnshard is how Odium Splinters Shards. He certainly hasn't expended as much effort on Aimia as he should've if a Dawnshard could potentially Splinter him and he was aware of it being hidden there. We don't know what Odium knows. Oh, I really look forward to Hoid and Rysn meeting! What Dawnshard did Hoid bear, I wonder? Rysn's was Change (so the Dawnshard that was used to create Cultivation & Ruin?). Given that Hoid's immortality and inability to hurt others comes from his (former) Dawnshard... Protection? Also, wow, we got a lot of info on the Sleepless! I realized that Nikli was the omen planter (and one of the Sleepless) at the same time as Rysn did. I did not expect such a detailed Sleepless PoV though! So all Larkin are not/cannot become Lanceryn and the Sleepless have interbred some of their Hordelings with them, which is really weird to think about. The Sleepless only imitate humans on Roshar, I'm always gonna be on hordeling lookout whenever an insect appears in the Cosmere books in the future. The Horneaters are well enough aware of what they're guarding on the peaks, though they're not Cosmere-aware, there's a lot of knowledge that has been passed down. A contract was made between them and the spren to guard the Perpendicularity it seems. I do not think that Chiri-Chiri the Larkin and apparently true born Lanceryn, is the same species of Dragon as Yolish Dragons like Frost. But it seems Chiri-Chiri's is also an intelligent specie though how much remains to be seen, at least in this novella Huio and the Lopen swear their third Ideal! At first I was cheering because Huio swore his trying to save the Lopen and then I remembered what the third Ideal was... yikes. Also Rua and the Lopen are so perfect for each other! I didn't like the final negotiations between Rysn and the Sleepless. The enemy, the people who are aware of and want to use Dawnshards, when they said extra misdirection against them, I was expecting a bit more. I also went through the Dawnshard megathread on Reddit and I absolutely suggest that you go check it out if you haven't already. Brandon talks a bit about the Sleepless and answers a few questions about Dawnshards with RAFOs, as well as other stuff! Brandon said on Reddit that Radiant Soulcasting is more dangerous than fabrial Soulcasting. Remember Jasnah's warnings to Shallan in WoK. She said its different from mechanical Soulcasting so your mind gets transported into Shadesmar, which doesn't happen to the same degree with Soulcaster devices. It leaves the Radiant vulnerable, they might get stranded in shadesmar without stormlight or certain kinds of spren might attack them in the Cognitive. It also leaves the body behind in the Physical. Soulcaster devices also seem more surefire in their ability. Like Shallan couldn't convince the stick. When Kaza Soulcast something, she didn't really interact that much with the thing's Cognitive aspect. Mechanical Soulcasters lack flexibility though, only one kind of Soulcasting each mostly, and Radiant Soulcasters have protection from Savanthood. It seems that the definition of a "Surge" is just a worn out path that Investiture often likes to take. An overarching type of magic, basically. So Surgebinding on Ashyn meaning something different is as good as confirmed. Then again the whole idea was that they used the Surges via the Dawnshards and those turned out to be something very unexpected. Also, very interesting WoB on the Aethers but I see there's already been a lot of discussion on it on the forums and Discord.
  5. Welcome to the Shard! How do we know you're not a Lifeless? Are we just supposed to take you at your word? How about you prove it to us that you're alive. Say the phrase, "my life to yours, my breath become yours"
  6. On Laral and Roshone, yup, absolutely
  7. Welcome! Who's your favourite Sanderson character?

Ah, just the emoji I needed!
  9. Fellow Truthwatcher @Honorless greets you, @TalFidelis
  10. The Doors of Stone will release when the Aleu fall nameless from the sky, friend. Welcome to the Shard!
  11. Welcome to the Shard! I see you've requested Aether of Night already, now go to Brandon's site and subscribe to the newsletter to get White Sand prose as well!
  12. Heh, faithful listener, nice. Welcome to the Shard!
  13. Welcome to the Shard! Which Order of the Knights Radiant are you by the official quiz? (here it is in case you missed it btw: https://www.brandonsanderson.com/official-knights-radiant-order-quiz/)
  14. Mistborn era 2 was difficult to get into after the original Mistborn trilogy. I just slogged through Alloy of Law and Shadows of Self but then kind of liked Bands of Mourning, so I decided to put that series on hold and begin anew later. Now Mistborn era 2 books are my most reread Sanderson books (they're very light and rereadable!) I also got bored with Warbreaker midway. I loved the beginning of the book but it becomes a slog in the middle with snooty Vivenna, annoying I'm-so-funny Lightsong, and much-ado-about-nothing Siri then Denth & Tonk Fah happened and I was hooked again. I also didn't fall in love with Shadows for Silence in the Forests of Hell at first sight, like I did with Sixth of the Dusk, Secret History or Emperor's Soul but it grew on me upon rereads. It's probably time to give Elantris a second chance too.
  15. That's alright! Well, the Shard doesn't have separate forums for Mistborn era 1 & 2, so if you're looking to talk about just era 1 with fellow fans I'd suggest the Cosmere Chat Discord (https://discord.gg/CHWGCBqh). Warbreaker forum should be safe, but with Cosmere tidbits. Alcatraz forum should be safe too! Just be very careful or you might get spoiled, and hey, you have a lot of books left to read to occupy your time while the rest of us are waiting for Rhythm of War!
  16. Ambition, assuming it means something like drive or progress would be amazing. Cultivation or Preservation would fit a lot of people well, I think, including me.
  17. Glad to have you here!
  18. Hmm... have I? I don't remember. Heh, that bane just makes my boon even better! Granted but you can only do that if you're pointing at yourself, lol I wish for a free virtual reality mass multi-player online rpg to participate in
  19. No problem! It's easy to delete a double-post! Just go to the second post, at the top there should be two menus, the second one "moderation actions" should have the option to "Hide" the topic. Just give a reason for hiding it (accidentally double-posted) and it's done! Now then, welcome to the Shard! I love Moash too! Look forward to seeing you around on the forums!
  20. 1) Suppression fabrial pattern also on the gem pillar in Urithiru, completely confirming what Raboniel said about how the Radiant suppression fabrial was developed, Urithiru used them against the Unmade & Fused & other forces of Odium. It also houses a spren but in the Cognitive Realm (like Soulcasters & Oathgates), they are Corrupted & seem to be willingly working for Odium. Might be relevant that the suppression fabrial uses garnets. Also notable, Soulcaster spren are insensate but Oathgate spren or suppression fabrial spren aren't. It appears this is how sapient spren are used for fabrials, it locks them in the Cognitive. 2) Stormlight energy into mechanical energy.... Navani wants to harvest kinetic energy and electrical energy from the Highstorm! Well, Navani found a use for one of the architectural oddities of Urithiru, the deep shafts (and it makes so much sense in retrospect) If aluminium can be used in fabrials to block force sent along one direction, can it be fine tuned towards similar purposes for other, less mechanical, more human Invested Arts as well. Also really hope we get some more magi tech this in the Lost Metal. 3) Taravangian and Navani butt heads, I like scenes like this, also it's nice to see some consequences because I feel like a lot of stuff was sidelined in the face of the greater threat. 4) Nice to see Noura and Yanagawn again. Ah the Radiant Orders attend the meetings, makes sense, looking forward to all the Orders being gathered together! 5) Hmm, looks like we might finally meet Ishar in this book Taravangian support for focusing on Emul & Tukar is obviously suspicious Also how do the Windrunners fend off Skybreakers? I'm wondering because Division 6) And we officially get the proposal that led to the coverart of this book 7) Navani getting over her biases, she was already open-minded but also traditional, and it's wonderful to see this happening all among the cast. We've got Kaladin & Adolin having these moments the most prominently so far 8) Wait what?! One Stoneward! The Stonewards are back too! Also how did the Truthwatcher spren, Cultivationspren and the Cryptics know of the approaching Desolation, that's something that hasn't been answered. Cultivation's influence? She is supposed to be good at foresight. Also, another mention to how understanding they've been of the circumstances, not that the reactions of the other spren aren't justified 9) "many who had broken off from mainstream Vorinism were treating his autobiography as a religious text" I need more info here! Also some Navani politicking appreciation, she's been doing it since Gavilar 10) anyone who reads a lo has learned to watch out for the characters who believe in doing bad things for the greater good. It's nice to see more discussion on it by the other characters but we know how these things usually turn out. Crossing my fingers for that Cultivation long con 11) Dalinar's arms, eh? Navani's one lucky lady
  21. Welcome to the Shard, Forescout!
  22. Welcome to the Shard, comrade!
  23. Just this And I think there was a mention of them thinking of people from Opelon/Sycla as religious nutjobs on some Shardcast
  24. That hairstyle and open shirt make him look a bit old-timey, but it strangely fits
