Yeahhh the fact we only see the version led by a magically insane guy makes it hard to tell what it would normally be

I would even disagree with this, the end goal seems to be being able to judge it on your own. (Personally, I suspect the "external code" is not inherent to the Third Ideal, but instead is a way to get at the base idea of "moving past personal caveats or biases" thing we see with the Windrunner Third and imo Lift's Third, but this is mostly speculation.)

There's actually been some effort towards this one. Breakdown that I've (with help from asmodeus on the Discord) come up with is in the vein of (a * means heavily a guess): table { border: 2px solid black } td, th, tr { border: 1px solid black; text-align: center; } th { border-bottom: 2px solid black } Name Part Potential Word Potential Meaning Notes Ba bah child of Proposed meaning comes from "Rysn Ftori bah-Vstim", as it's mentioned in a previous book she is legally considered Vstim's child. Ado adoda light Meaning comes from when Dalinar names Adolin in an OB flashback, and mentions the word. Mish mishim Cultivation* Proposed meaning comes from the green moon, Mishim, which under listener naming conventions would presumably be "Cultivation's Moon". However, it is not confirmed that "Mishim" means that, this is merely a theory. ram maram Honor* The Alethi word for "honor" is "merem". However, as we see with the name Kalak changing to "Kelek", the Alethi language underwent a vowel shift which might have made "merem" from an older word "maram" (we see this hypothetical word in Amaram's name). Additionally, someone here on the forums noticed that "mishram" is a form of a Sanskrit word that means "mixed" or "blended", and Brandon has said that words with noticeable Sanskrit (or Arabic, or Hebrew) origins are intended to indicate the word has roots in the Dawnchant. When I asked Brandon about this breakdown, this was the response:

Weekly Update 8/23/21
LewsTherinTelescope commented on LewsTherinTelescope's article in Brandon and Book News
Extremely recent change, less than a week ago lol -
It's mentioned the Stormfather definitely did have Bondsmiths before. RoW 116: Though an interesting thing is that the Sibling was "created" after Odium's arrival, since they were made to fight Odium and to unite humans and spren.

I mean, Dalinar is fundamentally opposed to the very forms of government of several nations in the coalition, but pretty sure they'd tell him to piss off if he tried to say anything. Most of them really don't care for Urithiru butting in their business (and there's nothing requiring Radiants to side with Urithiru over their home nation if it comes to that anyway). And the Radiants have a prettty diverse set of viewpoints, convincing all the orders that your laws need to be dealt with would be impressive honestly. Also, I wouldn't count "sovereign nation can go to war with us hypothetically" as "this government is religiously based around the members of said other nation".

At least in the current day, the Radiants really don't seem to have much control there (besides Alethkar, but that's not much of a nation anymore).

Brandon's latest Weekly Update is out, with updates on Wax and Wayne 4's second draft, the co-written Skyward novellas, the winning design from the T-Shirt poll, and upcoming YouTube content! First off, more progress has been made on the second draft of The Lost Metal, the fourth Wax & Wayne book, bringing the progress bar to 40%! (The second draft generally goes pretty quickly for him, and this is about on schedule for what he plans.) However, this next week Brandon will be taking a break from Mistborn to do a revision of Janci Patterson's third Skyward novella, Evershore (which will follow Jorgen). In case you've missed it, Brandon and his friend and former student Janci are writing a series of three Skyward novellas to tie into Cytonic, the upcoming third book in the series. The first novella will likely release a little over a month from now, and the second sometime between then and Cytonic's release on November 23rd. The third novella will likely come out shortly after Cytonic itself. In other Skyward news, results are in for the T-shirt poll, and the winner is... the mighty Doomslug the Destroyer! However, as M-Bot hugging a mushroom was very close behind it, Kara has decided Dragonsteel will likely make shirts with both designs. Stay tuned for further news on that! That's not the only thing in the works, though. A new Script Notes video is coming, though it will likely be a few weeks, as they take a lot of editing. No hints on what movie it's about, so keep your eyes peeled. In addition to that, he also did an ordinary movie review that'll be coming out soon. As with Script Notes, no clues given on the subject, so we'll have to wait and see. Transcript will be available on Brandon's blog when Dragonsteel is finished with it.

Brandon's confirmed that using Feruchemy to create electricity is indeed doable: Hypothetically, this would probably be possible with ettmetal too, but we don't know for sure how mechanical Feruchemy works, only that it in some way does, so we can't say much for certain. The smaller escape ship was just Steelpushing, the larger ship uses both. BoM 29:

I took the "not yet" to be saying "you have not seen evidence of this yet", not "it can't happen yet", personally.
-
Iirc, he replays it for Renarin, and Renarin explains it to Dalinar.
-
Hmm, that's a very interesting idea I hadn't considered. I'll have to look into that.

Worth noting: Also, Sibling originally lost the ability to hear both tones, but has since regained Cultivation's, which is interesting. Unclear to me if they regained Cultivation's during the book or before it, however. (I'd be very curious to know if they could hear Odium's tone at various points in time and if that changed at any point.)

How did BAM's imprisonment impact Roshar and the spren?
LewsTherinTelescope replied to mdross81's topic in Cosmere Discussion
Oooh, interesting, I forgot about that. To be honest, I don't even know what it would mean for a mind to be closer or further from the Cognitive Realm, lol. Like... isn't that where minds normally are??? This stuff's weird. Thanks! -
How did BAM's imprisonment impact Roshar and the spren?
LewsTherinTelescope replied to mdross81's topic in Cosmere Discussion
Eh, I feel like if the spren's anchor to the Physical Realm is now partly in the Cognitive, it's going to have effects on the spren. Perhaps even pushing the spren a bit closer to the Cognitive, and thus maybe helping them lose their minds less, which could be what's up with Wyndle. -
It's definitely a good question. The two main theories tend to center around either a.) she was an important spren prior to her unmaking, or b.) something she did in order to be able to set up the False Desolation forged this Connection. We don't really know which, or if there's an option c.) that we've missed. They do, yes (Sibling uses they/them, not she/her, btw, though a lot of people seem to make that mistake). RoW 49:

I don't think it's impossible, but I do feel it's unlikely. (You are right that Brandon likes to pull the rug out from under us sometimes, but to me personally, this doesn't feel like that's what's being done. I think the twist will be more around why her capture did what it did than whether it did so.) I feel like they'd notice the timeline conflict there. I could see this helping the process along, but I'm not super sure. The Stormfather does claim that he saw Odium kill Honor and saw his corpse fall, and that he (meaning the SF) fled after that. So to me it doesn't sound like it was quite the killing blow, but I could see it in some way weakening Honor, maybe? Not sure. The thing with this, I think, is that the spren are Splinters, pieces broken off. For example, seons only go into their broken state when their master is taken by the Reod-screwed Shaod, not all the time, even though their Shards are Splintered. And tbh, considering the process of "killing" a Shard is making them into Splinters, it would be odd to me if Splintering a Shard directly harmed the Splinters in such a manner. #1-4 does match what we know of the timeline, yeah. For #5, you're right we don't know for certain that the spren were deadeyed immediately, but it feels odd to me that they would become deadeyes then even if the Ideals were broken before Honor's death, if that's what caused the change, but that's just my gut saying it feels weird, not an evidence-backed argument.

Stormlight and pregnancy (ROW and Dawnshard spoilers)
LewsTherinTelescope replied to a question in Cosmere Q&A
A pregnant Radiant can heal their child(ren) in the womb, yes: My gut feeling is that there are perception shenanigans one might be able to work out to pull it off, but that by default, it would not do this (for example, Shallan and Lift both get their periods, and express some displeasure over this [Lift much more so due to her "don't wanna be older" thing]). To be honest, I think this is likely something Brandon will shy away from for a while yet, due to certain extremely fraught debates (at least in the US, dunno how strong the arguments are elsewhere) that it'd bring up. (For example, that extremely loaded comment from a questioner in that very WoB.)- 5 replies

...How?

Hey, welcome to the forums! I think the main problem here is that Honor's death happened after the Recreance, hence why visions of it could be made with his memories. The Sibling also specifically ties their wounding to the capture of Ba-Ado-Mishram, and says that Honor died after that went down. So I do feel the timeline conflicts with that idea, personally. Interesting. I don't really have a ton of strong thoughts on what I think will happen with Honor, tbh. I could see Dalinar, Kaladin, or Adolin getting it, or could see Dalinar, Kaladin, Szeth, or Taravangian picking it up alongside Odium, or could see it remaining Splintered or even broken up further by the Stormfather's death, or could see Cultivation grabbing it and Odium... I honestly don't know where I expect it to go, which makes me excited. Edit: Sorry, forgot to respond to this: Not exactly. The seons didn't go mindless from the Reod, but more specifically when their bondmates were taken by the Shaod during the time it was broken. I think it's plausible that this could be analogous to how spren aren't immediately deadeyed by whatever caused the change (likely BAM's capture, though clearly you disagree lol), but only when the bond is broken.

This? Deadeyeing is what's being referred to here (hence "you can't kill us completely"), which is separate from the actual death we learn is possible in RoW. (And considering Brandon has said the Beyond may or may not even exist and characters don't know the answer either, her comment does not even necessarily refer to that anyway, as opposed to just referring to the fact that they don't leave a deadeye, and that the Cognitive aspects of sentient and non-sentient things are notably different and so presumably have some form of differences in how they function, with the flame vs bead stuff.)

Eh, I don't think it'll be directly manipulating luck. Feruchemy is very internal, whereas a lot of the things you suggest in #2 are external. Imo, it's related to this: Essentially, making the "right" or "wrong" decisions by seeming chance, because you're subconsciously tapping into and reading the Spiritual Realm a little bit. Hence things like Hoid, where he's got an idea of where it would be useful to be, but doesn't really know why, he just does.

(Trying to keep title vague) Ran across this line from the Former's speech again: I wonder if this is still relevant to the current Cosmere and Shards. Not in a literal manner, necessarily. But in how Brandon envisions these types of being viewing themselves. (This would very much be a kind of philosophical view, not the Shards like, literally being promises manifest, but I can see that kind of idea arising with the whole "Dawnshards are Commands" thing. If Dawnshards are Commanding things, could the Investiture out there following these Commands be viewed kind of as promising to carry it out? That sort of deal.) Nothing terribly important or major, just an idle wonder.
