  1. Well yeah I know. But Wax is more the adventurous aspect of Indiana Jones , than the quite deductive genius aspect of Sherlock Holmes. And he's not... Not really like Sherlock. The vibes are very , very different
  2. So Elendel is somewhat based on Victorian England right. So I was wondering how my favorite character of that genre would live in Elendel Now analoges of Sherlock Holmes are quite common and can be found inany genres and I thought how about one in Elendel. I was thinking her / him being non-metalborn at first. Then the charecter moved to being a bronze Ferring , then an Allomancer , then as I was moving onto twinborn , I got this idea. Now , Sherlock Holmes and his analoges are famous for making astounding observations based on the most trivial and non-conspicuous details in extremely little time. Now it would be impossible in real life. While it seems simple when Holmeian charecters explain thier chain of deductive reasoning. But There's no way one could actually do that ..... Unless , one could think 50 times faster than average. Viola , ladies and gentlemen , I give u Sherlock Holmes as a Zinc compounder. Could it be possible for Mr. Sanderson to make such a charecter. Wax kinda started out like him but became less deductive genius and more adventurous Indiana Jones later on. But still having a scientifically ( according to the fourth law of thermodynamics ,endemic to the Cosmere ) would be amazing. I think Brandon Sanderson could write a decent enough version. Wax , Vasher , Raoden all could count as practice , prototypes if u will. What do you think ? Maybe we should pitch this to Mr.Sanderson. Maybe it won't be too different. But then again , a Zinc compounder with the fierce yet dispassionate intellect of Sherlock Holmes going up against rogue noblemen with access to allomancy or other allomancers. Ooooooooooo If not Sanderson , then maybe some other writer getting a loan of small temporal pieces of Scadrial , namely era 2. P.S : Funnily and Ironically enough, even tho the analog is a Rioter , he himself has a composed and calm personality , almost free of emotion.
  3. He's grumpy yes , but with style. But yeah I get ur push. I really do think he's seriously witty. Maybe the Silverlight novella(s) will show that aspect of him . Hopefully
  4. Excuse me !!! Did u say Nazh ain't witty ???
  5. Ah noice. He's not human anymore eh ? But what about like 1k or 2k years post shattering ? Would he have been human enough then ? Are there any races on any world descendant from him ? A likely candidate would be Taldain since he was there and it's the earliest story. But he might presumably have progeny on other worlds as well . Perhaps Scadrial or Roshar , Maybe Ashyn
  6. So well he's 10k years old , a very voracious Traveller and I don't think we have seen anything indicating he's sterile or asexual. But I guess he could like suppress his sperm production as an affectation of his healing factor's partial suppression. So any thoughts , theories or WoBs ? I have heard one interesting if improbable ?? theory of him being the progenitor of the feruchemists.
  7. @RShara,@Invocation , yeah I guess it is ridiculous to compare a modern country with elendel. And yeah , the originators didn't have things easy. But u seem have agreed upon a population of 10-15 million. Yeah that's fine by me.. Still I wonder if similar trends occured in the south ? If they have similarly low populations. They probably do. Well this was fun.
  8. Nah. Like look at South Korea . It's probably tinier than elendel. And only 22% of it's land is arable. Yet they have a population of 50 million. They import a lot of food. But then again they can only farm on a fifth of the land and the land isn't as fertile as elendel's. Although I guess chemical fertilizers compensate for that. Seeing that elendel is atleast twice as large and has like 80% arable land. It's actually not hard for them to support higher populations of atleast 20 million
  9. Oh kkkk , I made a mistake. it's not (2^10)= 1024, it's ( 2^9 )=512. I assume u will forgive my arrogance . But I digress in other matters , I sincerely doubt only 10,000 ppl made it into the caverns. I mean , at hathsin alone there were atleast 20,000 fertile terrismen and atleast a similar no of skaa and nobles. All of them fled to the caverns. It's what anyone would do when like 40 thousand Koloss are attacking u. U get into the safest place. In this case the caverns. Then there was urteau , where a lot of ppl escaped into the caverns to run from the fire raging across the city. I'm guessing at least 5000. Then fadrex where I'm sure Yomen was wise enough to here atleast 10,000 ppl into the caverns, if only as a defense against a feint by the Koloss. So u get some 50 thousand right there. So it would be : 512×50000= 25,600,000 So 25.6 million ppl.
  10. @Karger nice to see someone who understands geometric growth. Now u said survivorians are homophobes and encourage increased fecundity. Really ?Well I didn't pay much attention to the religious parts while reading but are u sure ? I might have missed it . Can u like give some WoBs or quotes or something.
  11. Mam I'm afraid the math isn't on ur side. Let's assume the originator population was a low 10,000 . So in 10 generations ,assuming the demographics doubled each generation. U would get the era 2 population as: (2 ^10 )×10,000= 1024*10,000=10,240,000. That's roughly 10 million. Now let's move on to more realistical terms. I think about a fourth of the era 2 population is terris. Now in HoA , it's said some 40 thousand terris refugees are at hathsin. Now many were eunuchs , so let's say about 25 thousand of them count. So if the ethnic ratio was constant through the centuries , it means about 75 thousand other ppl made it alive. So we have a total originator population of a hundred thousand. So we get : (2 ^10 )×100,000= 1024*100,000=102,400,000. That roughly 100 million. Now in best case scenario , about 150 thousand ppl made it. In that case , we have : (2 ^10 )×150,000= 1024*150,000=153,600,000. That 153.6 million Even assuming a moderate originator population of 50,000 , we get : (2 ^10 )×50,000= 1024*50,000=51,200,000. That 51 million. Geometric growth sure is amazing. So yeah , there's either a mistake by Mr. Sanderson or there's some thing at work.
  12. I was sold at this line. I was battling depression at the time so I really liked this quote. This was so heartbreaking. I just loved this And this And I love this. Don't know why exactly. But I just love this , maybe cause this was the first time syl was being serious.
  13. Wow I thought they were similar in size and what really boggles my mind is that it's been 300 yrs yet there is no population explosion even though the final empire had horrible conditions while elendel has self renewing land , good climes and better medicine and technology. Damnation that would be impossible irl. Up until the 18th century population was directly proportional to agricultural output . So even with the larger size , the final empire had pretty much the same agricultural output as elendel. Since : A). The land wasn't renewing. B). Large tracts of the empire was uncultivated and fallow . C). The plants were less nutritional. D). The ashfalls took thier toll even with the ash consuming microbes. The skaa had to manually remove Ash from the plants. Realistically the population of elendel should be higher than the empire or atleast in the 10s of millions. Khriss mentions that child mortality rates are quite high so that means ppl are still having more children. So why is the population so low ? Is it a blooper or is there some morbid minded entity at work ? The ruin part of Harmony maybe.
  14. Now it has been said there are 256 possible twinborn combos but is that true ? It seems to me a twinborn can access only a metal within a quadrant. Wax has access to A-steel and F-iron. Both belong to the physical quadrant. Wayne has access to A-bendalloy and F-gold. Both are hybrid metals. Miles is a compounder so obviously he has access to only 1 quadrant. It kinda makes sense as metal within a quadrant have more in common than those without. So then I guess the twinborn are limited to the quadrants , in which case the no of combos would be 4(4*4)=64 . Of course we have only seen 3 twinborn so far. So my theory could be wrong. But I think it's likely that quadrants play a role.
  15. Idk man. Patji is dangerous sure but Hoid has survived worse. The creatures on patji , the nightmaws , the monsters of the deep, Poisonous plants. They are dangerous to ordinary humans without access to magic or technology but Hoid can easily survive them. So I don't think autonomy would give such easy tests to Hoid. I'm sure the tests are either far more dangerous or far more complicated than just running away or killing a few animals.
  16. Welcome to the shard And to answer ur question , allomancy doesn't follow normal genetics but has a few quirks. Firstly the genes are coded in the spiritual realm. Commonly referred to as sDNA. I think a child who would have been mistborn on Scadrial would be mistborn anywhere else in the Cosmere but if allomancers were to breed with ppl lacking sDNA , thier progeny would slowly lose allomancy and allomancers born would be more likely to be mistings and very weak ones at that. Ultimately the sDNA would be completely lost. This is a problem on Scadrial itself as generous breeding of the nobles with the skaa and the Terrismen have diluted and weakened both allomancy and feruchemy. Even without the interbreeding ,In a few centuries it's expected the potency of allomancy will keep on decreasing until it eventually platues , producing rather weak mistings and no mistborn. Interbreeding accelerates the process. And since the genes are Spiritual rather than physical , I'm pretty sure genetic engineering is out of the question. I guess hemalurgy is the closest u will get to genetic engineering with regards to sDNA I hope I kinda answered ur question.
  17. Where are u going ? U from brigram too ?
  18. @Aluminum I don't think depravity would be a big bad . Not by itself at least. Maybe if some shard would combine with it or if it were to pick up or hack splinters of the ones Odium has killed. Like maybe it has found out a way to make splinters bend to it's will , without absorbing them and soiling it's own intent. I doubt it. But it would be cool .It could be responsible for the rise of the Evil in Threnody. Consuming and playing with the lives and souls of men. Hmmm would match up with what I think is kinda a tangent to it's intent. To maximize suffering. It could be warping ambitions mangled investiture on the planet. Hell maybe that's why Odium says in OB that he can't even leave large splinters like the stormfather alive. Maybe he's afraid depravity might hack them and might change thier intent enough to challenge Odium. Maybe it won't ever risk it's own neck but suppose it creates it's own unmade , a entire coalition which can stand up to and even kill or atleast weaken Rayse. Maybe it visited SEL too and that's how the svrakiss came about , small pieces of hacked investiture cannibalized from the dor. But then it found it hard to mold the dor , stuffed in the CR as it is and left for Threnody instead. Maybe it doesn't like harmony as Sazed is trying to maximize choice and thereby increase happiness and decrease suffering. So seeing that Sazed is still young and stumbling by Shard standards and outraged at the sheer audacity of the consequences of Harmony's intent , it's attacking Scadrial. Hoping to take down harmony while it's still taking its baby steps. Like a bully picking on a baby. Harmony is double it's size by magnitude sure but it's young and stumbling. It would explain why paalm was made to suffer so much in SoS. I really felt sorry for her and that felt straight up depraved. Maybe it sees the general increase in happiness technological growth can bring and is therefore threatened by it and decided to remove life from the sphere . Wooooooo Maybe it can somehow bully or manipulate imitation to do it's bidding. This is all pure speculation of course but it is fun huh. Woo it would be so cool to have such a shard. But yeah it would be too black and white. But then again ruin was kinda black and white too. I still love mistborn era 1 more than any other Cosmere book subset . Let's see. Time and Mr. Brandon will tell
  19. So I was wondering that the fate of ambition was left somewhat ambiguous. I mean khriss says Uli da was mortally wounded and pieces of her shard were brutally ripped out , warping the threnodite system. But then she says she was splintered in another system , but not if Odium was the one who did it. Or if she was broken at Threnody and was already splintered or almost splintered and died of her wounds later on. Neither is there solid proof as to if she was killed at all. So I have a theory. What if she became a shade ? A ghost. Now when I say a shade , I don't mean she lost her physical body like kelsier did. Instead she lost her mind. I think it's more like the threnodite shades who still have a lethal ,caustic physical presence but not much mind. The shades exist on all three realms ,atleast in part. Khriss even wonders if they have souls. They most probably do. I think the defining and differentiating charecteristic of threnodite shades , is that they exist on all three realms but only barely. Now this is important as in SH, Ati mocks kelsier by saying that only someone who exists on all three realms can properly hold a Shard. Threnodite shades are special in that unlike other shadows in the Cosmere they aren't restricted to the cognitive realm. They exist on all three realms. And whose investiture is responsible for these shades ??? That's right Ambition's. So could it be that Uli Da became a shade who barely exists on all three realms rather than one who doesn't exist on one or more realms (, ie, dying ). And since she's not a true shadow , a true ghost , she can still hold her Shardic nature efficiently. But since she has lost much of her mind , she would be more predatory , more instinctual in nature. This sorta reminded me of the Grudge. The basic premise of the movie is from Japanese lore which states that if someone were to die in the midst of great tragedy or pain or anger or envy , thier souls would be consumed by it and they would turn into restless wraiths who murder anyone unfortunate enough to run into them. It doesn't matter if the person is innocent or guilty. A child or a old person. The shade is nothing more than a amalgation of pure envy , anger and hatred now. Envious and angry at others for being lucky enough to be happy or even alive. Thirsting to pass on it's pain and sadness to others ,so they too might know it's misfortune. Or maybe something even more mindless , just a being which wants to kill , to destroy , which has been consumed by destructive emotions so much that it's like a fish in water . Kinda reminds u of some barely self aware splinters of investiture on Threnody , eh ? Now Brandon spent 2 yrs in Korea , he got a lot of ideas there. And it wouldn't be impossible for him to learn of this piece of lore as Japan is close to the Korean peninsula and has some cultural influence in there or get to know of it via movies like the Ring or the Grudge So here's my theory. I think Uli da didn't die , not completely anyway. I think she still has her physical essence but has sacrificed most of her mind , much like preservation did , either to escape from pain or as a determined move to secure vengeance. However she is not bound by non violence like leras was. She hates Odium and is ready to destroy him even if it means destroying herself as well. And she has become consumed by anger ,pain and despair . It doesn't clash with her intent , as her intent now is still ambition. Ambition to watch Odium burn. Indeed in a way it makes sense , there is no one more vengeful than an ambitious person cheated and nearly violated in almost every way possible. ( Which I believe is what being almost splintered must feel like ) I think that perhaps ambition still has some cognizance but she is overwhelmingly ruled by a desire for Revenge, for Retribution . She may have lesser beings working for her. The Evil might be her pawn as well. And I think perhaps she's lying low for now. Gathering her strength. Moving her pawns . I have a few more points which I will post someother time. Please do comment about ur thoughts on my theory. Thank u.
  20. The shards Depravity and Imitation Now I thought Odium was well Odium but turns out that's more of a overgeneralization. Sure he's kinda power mad but he doesn't really represent the psychopath and sociopath I imagined. So I think maybe there's another shard out there. One who represents Adonalsium's depravity. By depravity I mean basically all sorts of sadistic or cowardly behaviours . One u would expect of bullies. I came to this idea while I was reading a lot of doom and gloom manga like Attack on Titan and Tokyo ghoul. Like on those world's u have a few individuals , who have powers but that only brings misery to them and to everyone they know and love and to the world as a whole. And the origin of these deviant traits remain murky and in cases like Tokyo ghoul it seems it simply manifested without any chain of causation . And I was thinking of the idea of cruel gods ,who simply want to watch lesser beings suffer. And then I decided to integrate this idea into the Cosmere via the Shard of Depravity. I think this shard would represent all the pettiness and cruelty of humans . Like even in children u can find this petty cruelty , lack of empathy , selfishness , etc. I think it's not truly dangerous. It's like a bully. Not ready for confrontations with something its own size but more than happy playing with mortal lives. Maybe this might even be the survival shard. Although I doubt it. As Brandon indicated it was smart but then again depravity does indicate an intrinsic reservoir of cunning and deviousness. I think it would be something like Gaz in WoK deified with a bit more cunning ,reminiscent of Straff Venture maybe. Now Imitation , now how do children grow . They imitate what adults do. Indeed , one of the major social forces might be imitation , we imitate the ones we look up to and think are cool. We imitate our culture , our language , our values from our loved ones. Imitation is I think the saying goes the highest form of flattery. So perhaps it could classify as shardic intent. A shard with a varying intent. One which can imitate the intents of other shards. If such a shard does exist , I don't think it would be a threat . It would be something more akin to the antagonist portrayed in the movies Split and Glass deified. Having multiple personalities with great clashes with each other. Too unstable to prove a threat. This is in direct contrast with autonomy who may have multiple personalities as well but they are somewhat coherent and cooperative. So any thoughts or criticisms or support . Thank u.
  21. The ability to discern the innocent from the guilty it seems
  22. So an Inquisitor can very well become a fullborn even if he/she was born a common human. The downside of course Is that then u would be liable to external control and loss of identity and will ,by a gang of soothers or duralumin / nicroburst enhanced Mistborn or by a shard. The more spikes u have , the easier is it to lose control. But is that really unavoidable. Suppose u were to grant a Inquisitor spikes bestowing allomantic and feruchemical aluminum , electrum and duralumin. This would allow said Inquisitor to compound identity , determination and connection. Identity and determination alone could be enough to shake off any external influence but perhaps connection to one self , one's own goals and ideas could boost ur emotional defense. So could my theory work ? Say Marsh decided to go rogue, say he thought Harmony was doing something very stupid or thought Harmony was too tied up. He could creat new spikes by killing 3 mistings and 3 ferrings . He has done way worse , true he was being governed by Ruin then but he knows about sacrifices required for the greater good , that's how he ended up in the steel ministry in the first place and after the events of the Catecandre I think it will be somewhat less squeamish about the cost , esp if it meant greater prosperity could be created or something like that. I mean Marsh could then single handedly wipe out the Set , something harmony can't do due to his intent and the kandra can't do due to being subservient to harmony and being anti violent to a fault , not to mention they are considerably weaker compared to a mistborn or fullborn Does Marsh have the knowledge as to the spike placement ? Would having so many spikes , esp ones dealing with spiritual aspects warp ur soul and the entire process end up being deleterious ? If so could it be healed by additional gold spikes and gold compounding ? Or will the entire concept not work at all ? Like maybe the cracks in the spirit web can't be protected no matter how much u compound ? Or maybe u would several spikes compounding determination constantly to overcome it ? Any thoughts ?
  23. @robardin wait what ? Or something twiddled in him by Harmony, for all we know, similar to the way he seems to be able to draw an A-pewter-like effect from the mists. Seriously that happenedi. In which chapter of which book ? damnation. Also yeah I wonder if resonances will manifest if u compound . Nice argument.
