  1. I didn't expect this topic to lead to such . . . vigorous discussion. I should have, but I didn't.
  2. That is a truly disturbing thought. But no I dont think it it would work.
  3. Alright, I'm not insane, thank you.
  4. He could have but I find it very odd to just not mention I set of Shardplate. I've counted several times since I posted and I'm pretty sure I have it right. 3 blades, 5 plate. But its driving me insane that I can't figure out where this last suit went.
  5. As the title suggests, apparently I knew to go back to kindergarten cause I just can't figure it out. In Adolins Duel he fought 4 shardbearers. 3 with their own plate and 2 with their own blades. In chapter 66 when Kaladin is offered shards it is confirmed. 2 blades, 3 plates. Adolin then says he gave a full set to Khal bringing us down to 1 blade and 2 plates. He then says he's given 2 sets of plate to officers in the army. He now has 1 blade remaining. He then offers the blade to Kaladin along with a suit of plate. Where in Roshar did this last shardplate come from! It could of been the shardplate he won in his second duel, but that would require him to leave Elit's plate unaccounted for. So all in total Adolin appears to have won 3 blades (1 from the 1st duel gifted to Renarin and 2 from the 4th given to Kahl and Kaladin) and 5 suits of plate (1 from the 2nd, 1 from the 3rd, and 3 from the 4th gifted to Kahl, Kaladin, and two officers). Initially I assumed that Adolin only have an accounting of the shards he helped win but that leaves us with a extra set of plate magically appearing. The other option is he gave an accounting for all of the shards except one (for some strange reason). I'm confused please help.
  6. One main use is that it can cleanse the body of unwanted investure. Shadows of Silence. and I believe it could cancel an unwanted lashing. Lots of things in that vein. Edit: and this should be in the Cosmere Discussion not Stormlight, but I'm not sure how you could fix it. @Chaos can you help?
  7. This is true, but Adolin particularly exemplifies the Order of Edgedancers. From rescuing whores to letting stable boys wear his helmet. It just feels so right. A valid point I hadn't considered. Good by highspren standards. I know it would start to feel cliche and repetitive. I'm not arguing that it's the best choice narratively, just that in world it would make it the most sense for him to become Radient (probably a Pseudo-Radient). I think that the most logical outcome in world is what Brandon will go with. Heck, I would argue that with his fast summons in the Battle of Thayelean he already qualifies as Pseudo-Radient.
  8. I've been thinking about this and it just seems like an inevitability. I know a lot of people don't want him too because they want a none Radient main character and I can relate to that. I just dont think it can happen. Adolin fits all the patterns for becoming Radient. He is around Radients day in and day out. He has attracted the attention of at least one spren, Maya. A very meta reason, he has had significant character growth throughout the series. Most importantly he is just a great person. And in the world of Roshar you get powers by being a good person. He follows the Edgedancer ideals without even knowing them. I just can't see a SA where he doesn't at least get a pseudo-radiency akin to Renarin's. What to yall think?
  9. Proof: the only reason none of us have complained about him is because we all see him as a different person. A hero to us. Theory: Greatshells are hemalurgic constructs.
  10. I've been digging through the arcanum lately and found this gem. Doea this mean that after the battle of thayelean Szeth wont be risking death every time he uses Nightblood? Does anyone who's read Warbreaker more recently than I remember what happens when Vasher draws it?
  11. That's, um, uh, wow.
  12. We did that? Where?
  13. Jezerian's honorblade?
  14. I like it, but not quite as much as the others. I see the Bondsmiths as having a much more active role. Less of a mediator and more of an arbitrator.
  15. @skaa Oh. Ok it makes sense now I really like that. I'm starting to get into your headspace on this theory!
  16. I saw it on cremposting and it's just . . . wonderful
  17. But really, if your still here, leave and don't come back until you've finished his books. The coppermind is pretty safe. The series specific forums should always be safe but sometimes people goof up (I've done it myself). The Elothkar spoiler is the only one that makes me groan, it's really sad you found that out. Happy reading, hopefully we'll see you in a few weeks/months!
  18. I see people do it and it's really nice, but is there a better way to it then just typing it in word for word? Do they just have a digital copy?
  19. It very well could be, I'm spitballing as much as anything right now. And if you put an @ in front of someone's name like this: @Thanatos it will send them a notification that you "mentioned" them. This WoB sheds some light on the subject in general. Questioner How many magic systems are in The Stormlight Archive, and how many of them haven't been seen? Brandon Sanderson I would say the only major one you haven’t seen is Voidbinding, it depends on how you count them. I count fabrials as one, Surgebinding as one, and Voidbinding as one. And then the Old Magic is kind of its own weird thing. And just in general, there's a lot of grey area in this topic. Questioner So far all the spren that have bonded to humans appear to be emotion-based as opposed to nature-based. Is that true for all the Knights Radiant? Brandon Sanderson Well it depends. For instance: how would you define Wyndle? Questioner I struggled with that one. Brandon Sanderson Uh hm. So I would say that you are on the right track, that there is a definite inclination that direction. Questioner Towards Honor? Brandon Sanderson Yes. There is. Questioner Is there other surges then, that are more Cultivation-exclusive or other Knights Radiant that are...? Brandon Sanderson We'll RAFO that, but the original Knights Radiant are more focused on Honor and his spren. Words of Radiance Seattle signing (March 8, 2014) Calamity Seattle signing (Feb. 17, 2016)
  20. This says Shardbladds are more invested than the Bands of Mourning. That's cool! Questioner You've said that Shardblades can be made in other magic systems. So if it's not like a Shardblade from Roshar, what makes it a Shardblade? Brandon Sanderson The "Shard" refers to the heavy Investiture of a Shard of Adonalsium. Most of what you’ll see will see are the Roshar ones, but it is technically possible to make them out of the other magic systems. It's going to be a heavily invested magical weapon, is kind of how I would define it. Questioner So are the Bands [of Mourning] one? Brandon Sanderson I would not call them one, but they are close. They're not Invested enough. Calamity Austin signing (Feb. 25, 2016) That is all.
  21. That's a fair point on the Nahel Surgebinding, but I don't think H and C would be loaning O any investure so he can make voidbinders. To clarify I think N-binding is H and C but V-binding is just O. The old magic does appear to be purely C and I think the proto Herald-binding was just H. Edit: The old magic may have an influence on the "worthiness and perception" bit on N-binding whereas H-binding just gave powers without checks. Edit: the more I think about it the more I feel that H and C might be so intertwined that its hard to separate their magics.
  22. Its obvious you've put a lot of work unto this so I'm reluctant to disagree, but I disagree on some points. Nahel surgebinding is if both Cultivation and Honor and is pretty much confined to Roshar. Furthermore the only shard present on Ashyn (as far as I know) was Odium. I agree that the Dawnshards probably granted surgebinding but likely in the form known as Voidbinding, Odiums own take on the system. I also doubt that the system of callings seen in Vorinism would date back to Ashyn. Vorinism is influenced by Honor, the Heralds, Knights, and the number 10 none of which are associated with Ashyn (except the kinda the Heralds, but I understand they weren't "powered up" till they went to Roshar). TLDR: I like Dawnshards granting surgebinding, but think they're probably of Odium and have nothing to do with callings or elevation.
  23. Welp. I guess it's more plausible then I thought. What seige weapons were at the rift?
  24. My understanding is that that chart is measuring the gemstone inside the sphere. If your referring to the actual glass bead a largish marble is the best descruption we have.
  25. Just cause we already have cannons and its relatively easy to come up with a new way (wind fabrials) to do the same thing (launch a heavy projectile a far distance). We haven't seen any kind of siege weaponry or any evidence of understanding air pressure on Roshar, so it seems like a big jump.
