  1. I'm curious, what sparked this question?
  2. I agree. I suspect all bondsmith oaths will be very variable depending on both the spren and the radients experience. We probably won't actually know though until/if we see another Bondsmith.
  3. But we don't know there's no more lerasium (unless I've missed a WoB). Do we know what the original method was? Wouldn't it just be being born with it?
  4. Pretty simply how does it work? A big part of my curiosity is that I asked several (more than was fair) questions at a signing and was shocked to see them pop up on the site a couple months later. Edit: and while I'm here what's the best way to get informed of upcoming events. Cause I totally would have driven to Provo Saturday if I'd had known it was going on.
  5. @MasterheartsXIII I agree with this theory and I'm impressed you came to independently (I didn't). And @Debarrathat is a golden WoB! Reputations all around! I more interested in how he got Feurchemy. Personally I believe a lerasium spike had something to do with it.
  6. But seriously does everyone else think aluminum blocking emotional allomancy is a tin foil hat joke? Cause I do.
  7. This is minor, but if ever there was a thread that would appreciate it. Not dissing on anyone for not knowing as its never in the books.
  8. Just plot relevance. I don't count elantris and warbreaker because I consider it a hook more than a plot. SA is out because none of the stories would be fundamentally different without the relationship. I really just disagree with the term "backbone" in this situation. But this is pretty small, agree to disagree? Edit: no hard feelings right, @Honorless?
  9. I would argue that it would make them look for it. Finding it would still be a trick.
  10. FTL anything should be impossible. If we can demonstrate it is possible using allomancy and/or feurchemy we will know that we are missing something huge. This might lead to a search for a source of near infinite power. Which we sharders know as the spiritual realm.
  11. Reaction time to stimulus made measurable by experimenting in a cadmium bubble and observing from outside.
  12. I mean, blow it up under a microscope is a start. See if we can get it to bond with anything not explosively. (Breaking roleplay electricity's role in the body was first proposed in the 1700's so I don't think it's too much of a stretch to say they've figured it out). It would take some very precise measurements and a lot of estimation (but again breaking RP they first estimated it in the 1700's) Drop a filled coppermind in a hydrochloric acid and see if anything wigs out to seekersense. Rusting an ironmind or even forging a zinc mind into brass. Just to see if something happens.
  13. I relate a lot here. Homophobia is a huge problem that exists, if not in the church, certainly in its members. My own siblings are terrifyingly homophobic. But it's because I know this issue exists that I am so proud of Brandon for doing what he has. I truly respect as someone who presents LGBT people to Mormon culture. Yah, in hindsight that was insensitive. Sorry. Edit: where did @Honorless go?
  14. Names Ross I'm a biochemist and zinc compounder. I want to study the chemical properties of ettmetal beyond it blows up in water. I would also like to observe, with the help of seekers, exactly what chemically changing a charged metalmind does to the investure. Though I would refer the actual experimentation to psychologists I am interested in learning more about spiritual feurchemy. Building off David's faster than light study. I would experiment on whether or not I can think faster than the speed of light (by which I mean get the electricity moving in my brain faster than the speed of light while tapping Zinc.)
  15. It is more of an identity thing and it would be weird, but I can't think of specific ways that the weirdness would come out.
  16. @Bliev I don't want to pretend these people don't exist and I certainly don't want to say they aren't valued, they are. But I've never met someone whose sexuality is a defining character trait. Its just a little heads up to "hey don't try and set him up with your friend." Yes. (I know this is a double post but I cant figure out how to quote on an edit).
  17. Earlier I alluded to the cultural and religious roadbumbs that Brandon faces and in the WoB I posted he did as well. I'm hesitant to go where I'm about to go because I don't want anyone to feel like I'm forcing ideas down their throat. And granted I am not Brandon. Nor have I ever discussed religion with Brandon. It anything in that vein. But if anyone wants a little clearer view into what Brandon's opinion might/probably is, and why it's a delicate situation with him that's taking sometime. Here. https://mormonandgay.churchofjesuschrist.org/ Again I'm not trying to convert anyone. I just think it will help everyone understand where Brandon is coming from. I mean he's said in WoB that his religion affects his writing so I think this valid. More justification I'm very nervous as to how this will go over. My LDS faith has been the biggest point of influence on my opinions in this matter. Brandon has said he is religious. Brandon might feel the same way I do. Please don't shoot me.
  18. And for the record I would like to see more representation. Particularly existing characters coming out as not straight *cough* asexual jasnah *cough*. I just feel that were not giving Brandon enough credit for the effort he has put in.
  19. Agree to disagree Yes we got of topic. But part of that is there simply are more straight people than not straight people. At this point I'm tempted to go through all the books and hammer out the ratio.
  20. My point is only that none of those relationships take a narrative forefront in the story as a whole. I can understand the argument for warbreaker but that really wasn't romantic for most of the time and was a secondary plot. Edit: to clarify elantris and warbreaker have relationships as plot hooks. All the SA ones are pretty minor subplots (though Shalodin does get some fleshing g out. I don't think any of those count as "backbone".
  21. That is simply not true. The only series with a romantic relationship of any kind as a central pillar is Mistborn era 1. Whoa, let's slow down, take a deep breath, and keep in civil. I understand how this is a sensitive subject, but I am sure King of Nowhere meant no disrespect. I only have a little bit of understanding of your point if view, but King raised some legitimate points some of which I agree with. I have a very similar cultural/religious background to Brandon and I understand his struggles with this topic. I'd even guess I have a similair number of gay friends/associates. My belief, not because of doubt but rather sympathy, is that he just couldn't do a good job.
  22. I don't think depression, just cause that's specifically under determination (electrum I think).
  23. I don't know about defining trait. Granted I'm not the most observant person in this category but I didn't even pick up on lesbian till it was overtly stated (have a free pass to make fun of me). I'd call her main character traits ingenuity and general roughness.
  24. They confuse me. Diamonds, emeralds, rubies, etc require very extreme conditions to form. Conditions not present inside of animals. The obvious solution seems to be that they're really not the various gems chemically. More like multicolored, translucent pearls. Are there any glaring errors in my thinking?
