Argent Back in, I think, Words of Radiance I asked you-- Somebody asked the question that had to do with the number 10 on Roshar and I didn't get the question on the recording--which was horrible--but your answer talked about Honor's purposes. Is what you said, and you mentioned 10 of them and that is why the number 10 is so sacred. Could you say something so I have something on the record? So we know what you said about that? Brandon Sanderson Honor's purposes... Argent Or Shard's purposes... Like what is that all about? Brandon Sanderson That will become-- I said it vaguely on purpose. Firefight Chicago signing (Feb. 20, 2015) Argent Back in ['14] you referred to Honor's Purposes to me at one point. Is that still a thing in the cosmere? Brandon Sanderson Honor's purpose? Argent Honor's purposes. You referred to ten of them. Using the concept of Shardic numbers. But I don't have that on record, I don't know anything about it, it's been a confusing topic ever since. Brandon Sanderson So that's still a deal. It just plays into the ten names of the Almighty and the ten attributes of the Fools and the ten attributes of the Almighty. Argent Are Purposes something every shard has? Brandon Sanderson I wouldn't say-- No. It's playing more into the nature of Honor itself. JordanCon 2018 (April 22, 2018)

Moral Miscalculations of Mr. Sanderson in Oathbringer
Chiberty replied to a topic in Stormlight Archive
Okay... I think I understand the complaint know. I took me a little while. Is this it?: Dalinar's arc felt like a redemption arc, but when you think about it, he hasn't really done anything to improve himself in relation specifically to his crimes at Ralthalas. Correct me if I'm wrong. From this perspective, I agree that this wasn't really much of a redemption arc, but that seems to be intentional. The whole purpose in Cultivation taking Dalinar's memories was so he wouldn't need to deal with them until he had developed enough to not let the memories cripple him like they had before. This way, Dalinar could change and progress in ways that let him deal with Odium in Thaylenah. He hasn't done anything to "redeem" himself of his actions, but that is understandable because he just got the memories back. Oathbringer was about Dalinar progressing as a person, while not necessarily being "redeemed." The end of Oathbringer is really the start of his redemption arc. He has finally come to accept that what he did was his fault. -

I think I know the remaining six shard names - and I can justify why
Chiberty replied to Ixthos's topic in Cosmere Discussion
I think Adversity makes lots of sense as a Shard -- mostly because of the storytelling element where Brandon likes to show that "good" Shards can be worse than the "bad" ones, which might not be as bad as expected. -

HD Remakes of Stormlight Maps - Roshar, Shadesmar & Alethkar

I'm not sure if this applies to your situation, but I thought it would be good to mention. EDIT: Nevermind. I went back and saw Isaac's post. -
Where did the Majority of the shards go
Chiberty replied to SzethIsBadAsHell's topic in Stormlight Archive
There's way more than 120 missing shards. The knights in the vision were only of two orders: Windrunners and Stonewards. There are an extra 6 orders worth of missing shards. -

HD Remakes of Stormlight Maps - Roshar, Shadesmar & Alethkar
Chiberty replied to Stoneward13's topic in Sanderson Fan Works
These are great -- but just know that the Expanse of the Broken Sky has not yet been confirmed, and it wouldn't be good if prints were made, just for new info to potentially change one. -

They might not be talking about the connection being used as a portal. We know that spren have a Connection to their planet that normally stops them from leaving. This is likely referring to a Spren's connection to a planet (Roshar or Braize) being changed to allow them to leave--just through the Cognitive Realm like is normally done.

Who measures height in strides? Who measures something in strides that they are currently crawling across? Who is small enough compared to a herald that a step would be ten strides tall? Bugs.... or Sleepless. If the Dawnshards used to be Unmade, the "known to bind any creature voidish or mortal" line could refer to something like Yelig-nar, who 'bonds' with humans or singers, or it could be Dai-Gonarthis, who may have caused the scouring of Aimia, which is where many Sleepless were. Theory: Dai-Gonarthis is used in the Scouring of Aimia, similar to how Dawnshards were used on Ashyn. A Sleepless captures him, then crawls up the steps to the Oathgate. The Sleepless then has someone at the Oathgate send Dai-Gonarthis away, maybe fully into the cognitive realm, explaining why Hessi is unsure about his existence.

Let's Discuss the Skybreakers.
Chiberty replied to Daughter of Tanavast's topic in Stormlight Archive
One important thing to understand here is that "law" can mean lots of different things for the Skybreakers. It's not that they would rather follow the law than what's right; they try to have an external perspective on what defines right and wrong. Many Skybreakers, like Nale, tend to follow the law of the land, but others, like Szeth choose stuff that's much different. The only requirement that the third ideal seems to have is that it needs to be external. I suspect that they could very well pledge themselves to the teachings of Vorinism if they wanted to. So, in answer to this question, Skybreakers will choose to follow the law that they believe is morally correct, so their law is the same as their morals. -

What happens between book III and book IV?
Chiberty replied to Oltux72's topic in Stormlight Archive
jmcgit Compared to Oathbringer, how much Szeth are we going to see in the book? Brandon Sanderson This one, probably less Szeth than Oathbringer. Mostly, because we're going to get his big plot in the next book. There's some cool Szeth stuff in this still, but we're looking more like first book Szeth rather than third book Szeth, where I give him his own micro plot in book 3. jmcgit I was kind of imagining, he's like the first character expected to die in the first five books. Brandon Sanderson He starts in jail, in book four. Because Dalinar told him to go there. DragonCon 2019 (Aug. 31, 2019) -

What’s the Weirdest Thing You’ve Heard Other People Say About You?
Chiberty replied to Draginon's topic in General Discussion
"So, wait. You're a four year old demon baby, and you throw ties at people?" "But have you considered that you might be a demon?" "You're such an Earth muffin." "You amphibious bottle of shoes!" "You have the brain equivalent of a donkey fried with a Shard of knowledge." There is way to much context around these to even begin explaining them. -
There will be more conflict with Szeth joining Dalinar, but he's putting it off until SA4, likely because he felt like Oathbringer was getting too long.
