I considered that, and the movement of the other parts of your body, like your arms, is you trying to move. It's just a smaller piece, but it should still work the same.

Feruchemy's pretty weird. It makes sense at first, but then you start considering things like @Spoolofwhool does in this thread, and you realize that something is not quite right with what we've all been told by the in-world charts and theories. Steel is said to store speed, but the longer you store it for, the more/longer you can tap (as with most feruchemical abilities). This means that the attribute that is really being stored is speed (d/t) multiplied by time (t), simplifying to distance (d). But wait. That can't be right. Storing distance? Distance from what? You don't go flying backwards to wherever you came from while you store. What distance seems to refer to here is this: the distance you would go if you were expending a certain amount of energy with the Intent to move (potential distance). So, if you are trying to go 4 m/s for 10 seconds and you store half of your speed for the duration, you will have 2 m/s * 10 s = 20 meters of distance stored up. You can then add that distance to your potential distance for any period of time, with the only limiting factor in tapping being things like air resistance/friction. This is consistent with what we've seen done with f-steel, along with why storing when you aren't moving won't do anything (no potential distance). With the time parameter considered, the feruchemy chart becomes: Iron - mass*time Steel - distance Tin - sensitivity*time Pewter - strength*time Zinc - thought Brass - warmth*time Copper - memories Bronze - wakefulness*time Cadmium - breath*time Bendalloy - energy*time Gold - healing Electrum - determination*time Chromium - Fortune*time Nicrosil - Investiture Aluminum - Identity Duralumin - Connection*time Most are changed in a simple way, but there are a few notable ones.

I think you mean "as kinetic energy = .5*mass*velocity^2"

The humans that came from Ashyn stayed in Shinovar. Wouldn't this imply that the Nexus of Truth is more likely to be Ashyn than the Nexus of Transition?
-
The lord ruler likely had kids before he ascended, but not after. That way, we don't have the problem of him letting Feruchemy and Allomancy mix.

What would the effect be if the moon was the same size as the earth (not if it suddenly changed, but if had been like that for at least long enough to get tidally locked)? What ramifications would the increased tidal force and the daily eclipses have on the weather, and how would the day/night cycles on the opposite sides of the planet differ?

Trying to decide a new series to start
Chiberty replied to vickyperkin's topic in General Brandon Discussion
I see you finished the time machine. I'll be needing that right away. -
You'd probably want the front of the spike, not the back, to have some sort of reinforcement casing because otherwise, the tip would just get crushed if the target is wearing something that resists bullet penetration.

Cue @RShara

This is likely using fabrials, not Windrunners. There are methods by which you can use conjoined fabrials for flight. (without even having one on the ground -- both halves can be in the ship)

How much metal/stormlight does each side have?

Skybreakers and Elsecallers are surprisingly very similar, since both have consistency as a big thing.

His name means "born unto eternity" Questioner Did Kaladin’s name come from anywhere in particular? Brandon Sanderson No. I'm sure the word paladin was in the back of my head, but it's not like he shares much with like an actual paladin. His name was Merin in the initial version and it was-- it didn't work, he wasn't a Merin and all the fans-- all the readers were like "this name just doesn't work" so I spent years hunting for the right name for him, and that's the one I ended up with. It's really based-- it's Kalak, which is the Storm-- not really the Stormfather but people y'know. Most of the names you'll find are based off one of the Heralds in some way. So he's KALA + DIN, Kalak and din is a suffix. Isaac Stewart We do have a meaning for it though. Can I tell them the meaning? Brandon Sanderson Ehhh, have we canonized it? Isaac Stewart We have canonized it, and we have told people before. Brandon Sanderson Then yeah. Isaac Stewart It means "Born unto Eternity". Brandon Sanderson ...I mean, it means that in the same way that names mean something, like my name means-- But when they're naming him that they aren't thinking that. What they are doing is picking one of the Heralds and making a name out of it. But my name technically means "Dweller by the Beacon", but really what it means is "He was the son of Alexander". Yes. Although all I assumed was that Fortune uses the Spiritual Realm to see future possibilities, which is pretty reasonable considering the examples we've been given. It could be wrong, but that doesn't really matter.

Moral Miscalculations of Mr. Sanderson in Oathbringer
Chiberty replied to a topic in Stormlight Archive
I'm interested to know what this term entails. The use of these two words in the same term scares me. Apart... sure. Together... Given forgiveness(x) = |crime(x)| + Intent(x)/√(societal views) Find Dt forgiveness(Dalinar) Yikes. -
Shhhh.... We can't let my cognitive aspect realize that, or it won't work. And give it a spine of iron for hemalurgy. (on other things of course, not itself)
-
I agree with that explanation.
-
Technically, that doesn't have to be a change in the Spiritual Realm. With fortune, we can see that other points in time are already in the Spiritual Realm. The physical Realm is just changing to manifest different parts of the Spiritual Realm.
-
Here's what I picture: a soulcaster changes something like a whitespine into iron. Someone Type IV awakens it with a command similar to Nightblood's. Joints are already included, it used to be alive, making it take less breaths to awaken, and Brandon lists Nightblood and whitspines as two of the most dangerous/nasty things in the cosmere. Perfect.
-
You can have change without time. You just can't have change with respect to time. All that means is that the Spiritual Realm has to be changing with respect to... something else.

Yikes. I see a whole lot of discussion about how a plot point was "resolved." Luckily, it wasn't resolved. There was some sort of end-of-book resolution to it because Oathbringer was getting too long, but it's important to remember that we've got 2 more 1000+ page books for Kaladin to deal with how that resolution played out. (Hopefully most of that resolution will be in the first portion of SA4, but who knows.)
