Crack theory: Adolin is already an Edgedancer
Halyo_Alex replied to GroundPetrel's topic in Stormlight Archive
Although, I'm not even 100% sure Adolin would gain Surgebinding from the reverse nahel bond, since the "extra power", so to speak, is going from him to Maya to restore her awareness.- 39 replies

Crack theory: Adolin is already an Edgedancer
Halyo_Alex replied to GroundPetrel's topic in Stormlight Archive
AFAIK Spren do consume Stormlight as an energy source, maybe Adolin can breathe in stormlight to help make Maya more cognizant and sharp-minded for as long as he can keep himself filled with it. And yeah being able to constantly see the Cognitive comes at some serious ups and downs. I mean we see Venli use Transportation to do that, and it's great for seeing approaching Fused coming from a mile away with their unique souls. Though yes, he may be vulnerable to being attacked from the Cognitive, which means anyone who can't dip into Shadesmar can't help... OH WAIT, Shallan can. Something something starvin' voidbringer...- 39 replies

Crack theory: Adolin is already an Edgedancer
Halyo_Alex replied to GroundPetrel's topic in Stormlight Archive
Possibly. Well, let's think about what the Nahel Bond does. It gives the Spren sapience in the Physical Realm, while giving the human access to the Surges to fuel with Stormlight. so if we flip-reverse this... the Lehan Bond would give Adolin... more awareness of the Cognitive Realm? Maybe able to see both at the same time, kind of superimposed? Or maybe one eye shows him the Cognitive Realm, that would be thematically fitting with Maya being restored from a "dead-eye" state. And then... Well, it would give Maya her emotions and awareness back, filling in the gap in her spirit that makes her a Deadeye in the first place. Oh definitely. I could totally see Lift trying to act like his boss or something, but it just comes off as adorable Lift moments.- 39 replies

discuss RoW Discoveries' Implications for Other Shardworlds
Halyo_Alex replied to Halyo_Alex's topic in Cosmere Discussion
I think you could use it for a few things, but the plants thing involved using a Rhythm to transfer Stormlight into Lifespren, which then nurtured the plants. So we'd probably need Spren made of mixes of Preservation and Ruin to be made before you could do the same thing on Scadrial... But if you took the Mistlight back to Roshar, well... We do know about Mistspren, after all. My current theory on Raysium is that it's sort of like Ferromagnetism but for Investiture, with a "north" (positive) and "south" (negative) pole that causes Investiture to flow through it as if pulled by a pressure differential. So yeah, you might be able to steal Breaths with it. -
discuss RoW Discoveries' Implications for Other Shardworlds
Halyo_Alex replied to Halyo_Alex's topic in Cosmere Discussion
Yeah, you would need the sufficient Connection to the Shards to actually do stuff with the Investiture you draw in using the Songs. -
Wait, wait wait. So far, all the Lights have been named after their source, not the Intent of the shard they represent. So we can't even name this thing until we have a reliable producer of it.

I believe the Nickel-silver bit came from translating the pages of Navani and Raboniel's notes on the dagger's composition and function.

I think it could be something like Rebellionlight, "cultivating" "hatred" towards a ruling body and overthrowing them for your own benefit.
-
You mean the Starspren Spangled Banner, yeah?
-
You're not totally off-base, the "silver-nickel" alloy around the gemstone in the pommel might actually be Nicrosil. "nickel-silver" nicro-sil. To an untrained observer, the name lends itself well to such a composition.

Pretty much exactly what the title says; I just wanted a single topic/thread to discuss and theorize/hypothesize what stuff like the Pure Tones and Rhythms might mean for Investiture on other worlds. The main one that spurred me to make this thread is: Can you use the Song (Pure Tone + Rhythm) of Preservation to draw in and burn the Mists of Preservation, even if you don't have the same Connection to Preservation that Vin had in the Final Empire? We see that the Pure Tones alone can guide the Lights of the corresponding shard into different containers, so would adding the Rhythm and making the Song of Preservation attract the Mists strongly enough to be consumed by an Allomancer? ...Could you do the same with the Song and Mists of Ruin to fuel Atium Allomancy without needing physical Atium??? See, these thoughts are why I make topics like this, I need to know if I'm completely off-base or not, bring in some other thoughts and see if I'm onto something by thinking in weird directions.

Crack theory: Adolin is already an Edgedancer
Halyo_Alex replied to GroundPetrel's topic in Stormlight Archive
The "curse" is that it takes a part of his spirit to heal her, causing the much-theorized "reverse nahel bond" (or lehan bond as I saw once, which actually doesn't sound half bad) to take place.- 39 replies

One alloy per Surge that you can Bind while burning the metal? That seems plausible... Almost reminds me of the Fused, funnily enough.

I think this was a case of Spiritual Tension; elastically snapping the "spiritweb" of the building together, as well as using Adhesion to stick the physical pieces back together. That was a typo/continuity error; the Stoneward was using Cohesion to Stoneshape the wall.

But don't you remember the boon she wished for? "When everything else around me changes, I want to stay the same." I doubt it would entirely prevent the shard's Intent from taking over, but it might hold it off long enough for Lift to do something important with it.

This is a good question... Hm... What does Hoid do that's Valorous?

Ishar writing a book? Possibilities for Book 5 title (KoW)
Halyo_Alex replied to Jasqueen's topic in Stormlight Archive
I like the idea of using the H of Symmetry for Honor himself. This is a good idea. -
Something has been altered about the power's ability to accept a Vessel, that much is for sure. But it's not like Honor being Splintered caused Surgebinding to cease functioning.

Honestly I still think the external enhancement metals are suspiciously similar to the internal ones, and wasn't that our exact clue that Atium and Malatium weren't the real external temporal metals? But that's a discussion for a different topic.
-
But then how do you specify which single-power they have in addition to the full suite of allomancy or feruchemy?
-
WELP. Also you could probably spike out a pigeon's magnetic field sense so you have an impeccable sense of direction. I wonder if you could spike out [Stormlight Archives/Warbreaker] Hmm what other weird senses are there... Oh, I found an article on some. "The Weirdest Senses Animals Have That You Don't"

Tin is a cool metal and I support all endeavors to experiment with it BUT A-Electrum/F-Zinc is too much fun for me to pass up.
-
physical speed* or F-Zinc* Sorry that just irked me when I saw it
-
It all sounds at least plausible, if perhaps requiring some careful application of Intent.
