Could Shallan have a fourth, hidden personality?
Karger replied to scm288's topic in Stormlight Archive
Single faceted Shallan. Only one aspect of her greater whole. No wonder when Shallan took off all restraints on her she messed up. -
Alternatively, we know from Syl's interlude that the tower had a different kind of light then stormlight. I wonder if some kind of sibling light exists and if it resists honor's investiture.

I think the implication with the "we" is pretty strong.

I don't think we have seen Nale's spren but I do think we have seen indirect evidence of his separation. Brandon recently said that it was completely OK with what Nale is doing implying that it does retain agency.

The Conundrum of Conjoiners: an Analysis of Navani's Airship

Maybe. I still think it would be smarter to double the number of chulls and then increase speed be mechanically converting that extra power. I wonder why they did not think of it. -
Could Shallan have a fourth, hidden personality?

That was not me. I don't think there is any one true Shallan. Shallan is a complex multifaceted entity. Shallan was a thousand people in a moment. But which one was her? All of them. -
Odium page, regarding Gavilar's assassination
Karger replied to Honorless's topic in The Coppermind Wiki
It could also have been Odium himself, an Unmade, Nale or his spren. We don't actually know. -
Silence doesn't believe in God

William Ann is looking for some reason behind their misfortune. She has apparently also "got religion" so she is looking to supernatural causes. -
Apparently the cognitive shadows of threnody do occasionally get out of the system. They assumed that a problematic spirit must be a threnodite.

Yes. Taldain developed gunpowder before scadrial. She was leaving anyway. I think she wanted to study the lerasium bead and was disappointed it is now gone. Alternatively she might have wanted to interview Hoid and wanted to catch up with him.

Good question. I would say no. At the very least it depends how they snapped. I don't think all the mist snapped people could have made inquisitors. Of course I don't think there is any way to actually know the answer to this question. Also snapping works differently now.

They would still have to hold out for multiple days. It might make sense instead to go across the steamwater.

Could Shallan have a fourth, hidden personality?
Karger replied to scm288's topic in Stormlight Archive
As is mine. The full quote is... And I think that that is not a good way of looking at things. Like the torso and head may be the "most important" parts of a human body(we would die instantly without them) but at the same time having hands and legs informs and has been critical to the human experience. Saying that Veil as a character is a loose approximation of Shallan or the closest we see might both technically be true yet bring you to some very incorrect conclusions. Radiant's perceptive is real. The feelings "real" Shallan gets from her are real. Same with Mask-Shallan. If I had only ever associated with Veil and then found out about her other two aspects I would not really feel that I knew "real" Shallan particularly well. What do her brothers think? They associate with both maskShallan and Veil frequently. What does Shallan herself think yes you pulled that quote but A Shallan is an unreliable narrator and was speaking will stressed and B I am not sure she considered the full ramifications of what she was sugjesting. -
That is unmade not orders of fused.

I said problematic, read misleading. Not wrong. -
THIS WOULD MAKE SO MUCH SENSE. Also if we take Hoid's story maybe the spren involved was somehow associated with the moon.

Yeah he has. "We protect those who cannot protect themselves."

Could Shallan have a fourth, hidden personality?
Karger replied to scm288's topic in Stormlight Archive
Well I personally think that having a finger amputated is preferable to a leg but that does not mean they are both real parts of my personality. And therefore his relationship to maskShallan is not real? The feelings maskShallan develops do not exist? But the primary when? If the part of me that was a cosmere fan was the primary 24/7 I doubt I could get through my day. Human society, status, and priorities are all constantly in flux. The skills we use under those circumstances are likewise in flux. -
To me at least that quote seems like a manifestation of her desire to escape herself. Do this fun exercise. Let us say you met someone who could exchange parts of your sense of self, your you, in exchange for currency. How would you go about deciding which parts you want to get rid of. Keep in mind there are limits to how far this person can go. Would you rank your sexuality beyond your sense of family identity? What about you gender identity? Your identity as a friend? A spouse? Your love of reading? Sometimes it looks like a clear choice can be made. Your sense of self that comes from your family is probably more important then your love of reading. However your love of reading really comes from your curiosity and sense of enjoyment at life. Is that worth giving up?

I think that way of thinking is somewhat problematic. Sure Veil is arguably the most complex of the three "fake", for lack of a better word, personalities Shallan uses but that does not mean she is the closest to the "real one" just that it is the one she uses most often and the one she gave more of herself to. Adolin for example would not consider Veil the most important part of Shallan because Veil lacks any real capacity for intimacy. Jasnah would find Veil a summation of Shallan least valuable traits. Her brothers probably like Veil but none of them would stick their necks out for her. Veil is Shallan's idealized version of the parts of her that don't need help. -
Maybe but that sounds disgusting. You are removing part of Shallan's personality. That is wrong.

It can clearly be either or both. Calling it a problem is at best an oversimplification. Calling it a good thing is probably false.
