Anyone now want to go over an exclusively cis, white, male, cast with the same amount of scrutiny we hit every women, gay, or trans character with?
-
Thanks! Any thoughts on the fifth?
-
I would totally get behind that. A character whose struggle revolves around defining themselves beyond their isms. This is even more interesting when considering they are both truthwatchers. The very thing that they want people to get is the thing their own spren have such a hard time understanding.
-
Not to mention the fact that this requires to more antilight then light on the field. We don't even know what happens when antilight enters a radiant.

The Possibility of More Than 3 Bondsmiths
Karger replied to FrostiiBeren's topic in Cosmere Discussion
Wouldn't the Raboneil know then? The fused may have been trapped but voidspren were still around. -
I expect them to learn quickly. Bronze detection might get you direction but what if the spren just stays behind the radiant? One of the cryptics tends to stay under their radiant's clothing. Hitting them is pretty had.

You misunderstand. Unless a radinat summons the blade most spren are invisible in the physical realm. They are also small and fast. Good luck hitting them.

In a slightly more immediate setting unless a radiant summons a blade good luck hitting the spren with your antilight while fighting.

As Zahel says So now I have to update things for this one. I think my underlying assumptions still work. There does seem to be a pattern we need to go over some of my assumptions. I am going to modify my understanding of the second ideal. I don't think it is about service so much as it is about improvement. Improving yourself improves the world and improving others improves yourself. Because of this working to improve either is the same as far as ideals are concerned. Remembering, Protecting, or Freeing others also helps you. Administering Justice to others and Reaching your own Potential helps the world. The third ideal still concerns your hangups. The people you hate, your own shortsightedness, or your inability to move past something have to be overcome if you are actually committed to this course of action. You cannot decide to only improve when it suits you. It is not enough to pay attention to the overlooked you also have to pay attention to the willfully ignored. You cannot just protect the people you like you have to protect everyone including yourself. Justice cannot be administered at your own pleasure you must seek objectivity to do it correctly. The fourth ideal is one we now have some more clarity on. What is the thing that Kaladin had to do, Dalinar still must do, and Szeth is going to do. Ideals are all very well but they don't mean much if you cannot use them. I think the fourth ideal thematically is about acceptance of reality. Kaladin has to accept failure as part of his quest, Szeth has to demonstrate commitment to applying his code in the real world, Dalinar has to get off his high horse and understand that others sometimes have a point and don't always work exactly the way he thinks they should. Acceptance of your own failings, the failings of others, and the failings of the less then perfect world you live in is my theory for the general fourth idea. Still no new information on the fifth though.

Aren't the majority of the unsean court at least slightly proficient at soulcasting? EDIT sorry I just got the context. However average soulcasters are savants and more importantly in my mind he did not say they could do this in a combat situation. I imagine with effort under laboratory conditions things tend to be a bit easier. We tend to disagree a lot on this. I am working on transportation and would like to pull Dalinar's trick with Oathbringer.

The Possibility of More Than 3 Bondsmiths

We know now the Nightwatcher was made by Cultivation rather then Adonalsium. It is quite possible one of the reasons she was added in was to offset some of the damage done by the unmaking. -
The Possibility of More Than 3 Bondsmiths
Karger replied to FrostiiBeren's topic in Cosmere Discussion
That is not exactly true. I personally think that each of the nine unmade plus the stormfather were the patrons of one of the ten orders of sapiant spren. The stormfather is the patron of the honorspren after all. Maybe the midnight mother had a similar relationship to the cryptics? -
Roshar seems to have a really complicated ecosystem that effects both spren and physical beings alike. The greatshells seem to be the most aware of this as we know from dawnshard spoilers and most recently chose to protect the singers. If some part of this ecosystem is not functioning correctly it is possible that the cascade effects could damage everything on roshar since the very souls of many of its beings would be effected. I actually think that the shaod is the best example as Adolin's method of combating it seems the same as Rao's.

It is an old argument for which there is no confirmed answer. Ill give you my opinion. While the scale of what Heralds can accomplish is huge their surges are generally weaker in certain ways. For example the honorblades don't let them heal shardblade wounds. It is absolutely theoretically possible but it is also might not be your best method. In fact in terms of pushing through resistance a radiant might have an easier time
-
No bingo for me.
-
Thought it was today?
-
An apt summery.
-
Don't think so. The investiture seems to retain its original identity until changed. It might have some kind of inertia. Thanks

This surge remains the one I think we actually know the least about. We have yet to see a normal radiant discuss using it. However we have seen it operate and I want to go over a couple theories I have managed to pull from observation. I look forward to seeing your own observations and to hopefully settling some of the debate @Pathfinder and I have been having about our elsecaller windrunner match ups. Firstly let us look at Lezian. Lezian turned out to be a particularly irritating opponent because of his mobility. Taking him down and keeping him there is difficult as he can always go back to his hiding place and recharge. What interests me the most however is his "spren form." While in this form Lezian is immune to conventional damage. Thankfully he also cannot injure anyone. He seems to be able to remain in this form indefinitely as evidenced by the fact that he searches the tower in this form for Kaladin. However if he wishes to take a solid form he can only do so four times before recharging(he usually only uses three because he uses the fourth to go home and get more voidlight). The relmatics of what is happening are fascinating. On the physical level Lezian does not really seem to exist. In the cognitive he seems to be able to go where he wants. However if I am right the surge is really operating on the spiritual level. Here is what I think is going on. The spiritual realm contains your life story. Looking at it you can tell someone's ancestry, upbringing, emotional tendencies, magical aptitude, skill proficiencies, species, health and everything else. Think of it like the scorecard for a person or their character sheet. It says who they are and how they are. This should include your physical location. Your position is logged just like everything else you do. When using the surge of transportation Lezian seems to make this moot. Basically he is using investiture to artificially blank this field. As far as the universe is concerned his body is nowhere in particular. His mind is a different story. In Oathbringer Captain Notum tells Shallan this about an object's mind. It seems that very little effort is required to move the mind through shadesmar. I wonder if I was thinking very very hard about a particular place to the exclusion of my surroundings if the flame that represents my mind would work in that direction. It seems that is basically what is happening to Lezian's sprenform. He can think himself in any given direction to move his mind. This is how he is able to move without a physical body. Once he is where he wants his body to be he can "heal" to the location using investiture to match his body to his mind. Once done he can be in a new place, position, or even have a different trajectory. I imagine this will be somewhat different for a conventional Willshaper. They will probably be able to take other objects or even people with them when they use the surge. I am also guessing there is a high cost to being in sprenform and maybe that they have to leave their bodies vulnerable while in it. Notably the distance gone using this method will probably not be the primary drain. Going 10 miles might be the same as going 500 for the transition itself(I could see this going either way) but I don't think a normal radiant can stay in sprenform forever. The much greater difficulty is the amount of time this form of travel takes. If you want to go somewhere the mind at least has to transverse the distance before the body can. Unless you are using some very big landmarks it could take hours to find a particular location. You might miss an entire city unless you know where you are going. Elsecaller capabilities. It has always confused me why Elsecallers would be so capable at visiting shadesmar. According to this WoB not one but two other Randiant orders can enter the place. The difference I think is the resonance of powers. An Elsecaller might be able to transport their mind around shadesmar while manifested. A really well trained one might be able to travel that realm as easily as Syl flies through the physical one. Manifesting your body using soulcasting and then making its location indeterminate through transportation you are where you think you are. It is no wonder Elsecallers would be the masters here. As to how this effects my debate with @Pathfinder I don't think Jasnah would be able to move around a battlefield much better then a Windrunner can. She can't just want to be somewhere she actually has to work through the intermediary steps of getting there. During this time the Windrunner can also move and possibly at a much lower stormlight cost. I am not sure how much this changes the odds though.

That is a fair point. I think Kel could justify it as him taking action to save the women as well as increasing the size of the rebellion early. I am as skeptical as you about this but it is plausible enough to let slide.

You are assuming that the GBs are his friends. I am not sure he sees them that way. I mean technically everyone he killed was part of the job. Same as Mraize being permitted to hunt Lift once she interfered with his mission.

They are referring to increasingly solid proof including Hoid's comments of "slapping him around" and "lord of scars" along with "affliction similar to the Heralds." Add this to a couple comments Brandon has made and the evidence looks fairly solid. On another note I would not put it past Kel to make GB members follow a strict code of conduct. If you want Mraize on your team then keeping him on a tight leash is advisable. I would not put it past Kel to refuse to allow the GBs to kill for personal pleasure. It is just a common sense directive that limits the type of people you require along with some of their destructive behavior that could damage GB goals.

Would you have made the deal?
Karger replied to Truthwatcher Artifabrian's topic in Stormlight Archive
Death severs bonds. Szeth dropped his honorblade for example even though he was later revived. -
Brandon answered a certain question about the person Renarin was crushing on. I totally called it!
