I would probably state that division is more a surge of Autonomy or maybe Ruin. Odium seems must strongly associated with illumination then anything although I think their might also be a case for cohesion now that we know a little more about it. You are not going to get a one to one correlation for obvious reasons.

What I don't like in this book is..... how predictable it was!
Karger replied to Bloodless's topic in Stormlight Archive
I don't want to debate the rest until I have come to my own conclusions but this actually makes sense. Raboneil is not trying to kill Kaladin nor does she want to destroy the Sibiling too quickly. As long as she is making reasonable progress and getting Navani to do what she wants succeeding too quickly actually undermines her goals. If Navani gives up then that is game over as far as Raboneil is concerned. -
Heart-Clenching moments from Rhythm of War
Karger replied to Ramona Tehradin's topic in Stormlight Archive
Basically any time Raboniel and Navani are in the same room. Next time try not to be so trusting! Living long enough and you learn to appreciate anything.. Also Raboneil telling Venli I would have liked to write your reports and save everyone the time.- 6 replies

I don't think so. Honor gave the 10 blades to the heralds directly according to the Stormfather in OB. Considering Ash might not have been born yet... It may have been the shards directly. Shinnovar in of itself is weird as traditional rosharan ecology does not apply there for unknown reasons. The singer betrayal of the spren could mean a lot of things. All we know is that the singers did something that offended the spren so grievously that basically every spren living calls them enemies. We also don't know the exact nature of the human conquest. It may have started as a prolonged border dispute or other conflict. We don't know which side were the aggressors or what their caucus belli was. However I would wager that the fused only really showed up after hostilities if not open warfar broke out. People don't generally sign up to be eternal warriors for an unknown god unless they are REALLY angry. We are still without answers as to the unmade but I would theorize that they were great spren native to roshar. Actually the Heralds just trap the fused. Odium may have been trapped before or afterwards and that was done by Honor not the Heralds. Presumably they are still around and have to carry on without fused assistance. According to Raboneil attempts at accommodation were made several times although none were ultimately successful. Although in some respects singer limitations are considerable their staying power as a society and people is equally so. Many of their skills, culture, and technologies are bound up in the planet's ecosystem itself. Surges seem to be the same across the greater rosharan system. Ten gas giants and so on. I think the spren bondings may have come after the first couple desolations. I certainly don't think Nohadon standardized it until later.

You are referring to era one?

I don't think the GBs will ever be neutral. They would play both sides at solitare. He kind of said he would. I don't know if he will do so in the ten days. I hope the first.

I think by far the simplest method would be a variant of option three. Since momentum is conserved place a weight that stores its mass in a stable orbit. When you want to trigger it switch to tapping and the thing's mass will increase while its orbital speed collapses allowing it to fall to the earth as a meteor. I honest think this is going to be the era three scadrian equivalent of a nuke. It is simple coast effective and requires almost no maintenance. Additionally you can adjust the tapping for different amounts of damage or damaging different areas. The other method I thought up was original conceived for teraforming but compounding heat to boil an ocean would make a fun visual.

What about the atium ability? We honestly have not seen that many aviar anyway and using other types of birds many more are possible. Besides it could be as much about denying the aviar to someone else.

Urithiru gem archive, 10-12 sapphire
Karger replied to Narcoleptic Axolotl's topic in Stormlight Archive
In my signature you can find my pattern of radiant oaths theory where I go through each order and explain what I think their oaths are and why. It has not been updated for RoW so it should be safe. -
I have a WoB that I hope is not a dream one that states that parshendi who awaken would use crab dolls rather then human ones. A kandra might actually be able to shift forms to awaken more efficiently.

theory The Stormfather will die in Book 5
Karger replied to KandraAllomancer's topic in Stormlight Archive
We have no idea what Ishar's blade is capable of. You would need a huge gemstone to imprison the stormfather but Odium should be able to do that.- 12 replies

Odium has a verity of different forces at his command. Nine brands of fused, a whole pantheon of lesser voidspren, voidspren emissaries, thunderclasts, the everstorm and the nine unmade. The questions I have is where they all came from and why they were made. The fused seem obvious at first. Cognitive shadows made from Odium's investiture. Seems simple. We still have way more questions then that though. According to Raboniel no fused were created after the few group seven thousand years ago. None. Why on roshar is that? Also there are nine brands. How do you decide which one you want to join? Did they start with different tribes of singers? Professions? Did you volunteer? Was it based on your personality? Did Odium test them somehow? Voidspren and their more intelligent cousins are splinters. Odium can make them by braking off bits of his power. They don't seem to be directly bound by the oathpact especially with Taln being the only herald holding it. Because of this many have managed to get around roshar even between desolations. However I think we have good evidence that they are all native to braize. It seems some amount of voidlight might be required to bond one as the radiants thought depriving the singers of this would make the bonding process impossible. None of the sapiant splinters seem to bond at all. This is possibly because Odium does not want his servants evolving or learning. Thunderclasts are awesome. They are intelligent, deadly, and seem bound by the oathpact. We have no reports of them during the false desolation(correct me if I am wrong please). They may, according to Venli, outrank fused although interestingly they have many of the same characteristics(I am thinking of their immortality and the fact that they take bodies). From this I speculate they were once living beings just like the fused. We now know that the chasmfiends are sentient if not sapient. We also know that they seem to care about the singers and have a bond to roshar itself. What if during the first desolation it was not just just the fused who joined team Odium? What if some of the chasmfiends themselves became CS as well? This would explain their forms, the way they make bodies, them being bound by the oathpact and their odd place in the fused hierarchy. @Lil Grizzles did a much more comprehensive break down here. The Everstorm is super super weird. Apparently it has been brewing for centuries in shadesmar. I do not know how on earth it started. The only things I can think of is that maybe Roshar had a nasty reaction to BAM's imprisonment and Odium is taking advantage of the sympathy pang or maybe storms are all the rage now and all three shards are going to have them by the back five. Finally the unmade. This has been theorized before but I do think that Odium took advantage of existing phenomena when he made them. Raboniel states she is "unmaking the sibling" lending credence to this theory.

Nice bit of mirrored imagery I only caught on my second read
Karger replied to Necessary Eagle's topic in Stormlight Archive
I don't think that radiants have to be nice or generally even good people. However I do think that to form a real connection you have to let your guard down and trust someone. I think a large part of the reason Gavilar had so much trouble was that he never really trusted anyone. He found people that fit the mold he wanted and put them in places where they were useful to him. Gavilar's style of rule was a major reason Elhokar had so much trouble and he himself even questioned it in Dalinar's flashbacks. -
theory The Stormfather will die in Book 5
Karger replied to KandraAllomancer's topic in Stormlight Archive
He is highly connected to the unmade. The rules are different. Maybe. We know he can unmake them again. I do not know if that allows for him remaking an unmade into anything he wants. It seems if he could do that he would have done so several times. Additionally allowing an unmade the control over stormlight necessary to generate its opposite means connecting it to the enemy. Such a spren is not particularlly useful if it will not serve you. Possible maybe. I don't think it would be advisable. Savantism is a problem even for cognitive shadows. Hoid himself is not immune. Possible yes. Easy no. I was referring to the farming operations that used the Sibling's light. Yes there would be a massive die off of humans but their would also be a die off of singers. In the end I think the humans would fare a bit better. My point is not that it is impossible. It is that this course of action is difficult, dangerous, and unlikely to yield good results in the medium to long term. Taravangian is a plotter and he is patient. Killing the stormfather right now does not really improve his situation even if he is successful while if he is unsuccessful the penalties are severe. Another point I should probably bring up is the energy output of killing the stormfather could be severe. It would be a lot like nuking the planet. I am not sure anyone would survive for very long if the explosion is as big as I think it could be.- 12 replies

I don't like their relationship but I definitely would not approve of such behavior by Hoid.

What actually caused the new desolation? (RoW Edition)
Karger replied to ALAKA's topic in Cosmere Discussion
OK this really depends on what you mean by desolation. If the question is "what caused the fused to return?" I think it noteworthy that absolutely none are seen on roshar until after he breaks despite other members of team Odium being present. I think because of this we can infer that they needed him to break first. -

You are picking up on something very real. Jasnah in WoKp was Brandon's attempt to create a hyper competent politician and stateswomen. Given the "economics" of how important she is to how much time we spend with, rather then around, her it stands to reason that he find her a bit boring. Jasnah has already had her introductory character arcs. I am sad it will probably be years before we get her initial development as a person and radiant. I think a good example of this is a deep seated insecurity. We are talking about one of the most powerful and important people on the planet and yet Jasnah still realizes that she might not be enough. She is deeply scared of her own inadequacy and this has governed the course of her life and many of her choices. She fully realizes she is one of the 20 people on roshar whose choices could easily mean the death of millions and can never be sure if she has accidentally made the wrong ones. Sure she might avoid one crisis but she might easily plunge everyone headfirst into another and because of her lack of friends and confidants this is all on her.

Maybe he will notice but he won't know why. Anyway Szeth is not always perceptive in that way. He is very good at sifting for information but unless he is thinking consciously about NB I doubt the thing's behavior changing will seem significant to him.

So like... why is Ishar trying to do that?
Karger replied to coolsnow7's topic in Stormlight Archive
Well, firstly, he is nuts. I personally think he is trying to figure out how to turn people into spren and vice versa believing it will help him attain godhood. -
I've heard some differing information, is Ingenuity real?
Karger replied to The Titan God's topic in Cosmere Discussion
There is a missing wisdom shard that we know about but invention is probably ingenuity.
