  1. We have tradition of waffle eating in my family, where we make the same family recipe every reunion, and on other special occasions. This tradition includes putting ice cream on said waffles. An excellent combination is vanilla ice cream and fresh berries.
  2. Aln shook her head. "I just meant that he's trying to get me to talk to more people. He thinks I should be socializing more. I'm sure he has no problem with you." She said this last part with a smile, as if the concept was humorous.
  3. "Thanks. I can still see your words, so the Lightweaving is unnecessary if you want to conserve stormlight. It's not causing any problems, though." Aln glanced across the square. "Trent said he'd come back with food, but that was 20 minutes ago. I'm beginning to suspect that it was merely a ploy to force me to talk to someone else."
  4. (Bit late here, hope that's okay.) My camp is effectively cancelled, but they're apparently going to try to hold a virtual version. I confess that I'm a bit skeptical as to how they're going to pull that off.
  5. The metallic arts are native to Scadrial, so I don't believe that a Horneater could naturally be a Thug. It seems far more likely that it was merely due to the combination of being a strong guy and having Stormlight.
  6. Aln was grateful for his lightweaving; she had noticed his words begin to fade to her eyes, recently. It wasn't enough to make them unintelligible, but it was still worrying. "Hello, Folorian," she said aloud, echoing his formality. "I would be happy to spend the festival in your company." She smiled. "I must admit, I feel a bit out of place, so it's nice to see another familiar face.
  7. It hadn't taken Aln long to give up on socializing. Although most of her attention was now given to her book, she glanced up occasionally to see if Torenat had found his way back to the square yet. It was on one such occasion that she noticed Folorian wandering through the crowd. She started to wave, but remembered his boon and instead walked up to tap him on the shoulder.
  8. Aln stood nervously at the edge of the crowd. Countless words danced and twirled in the air, tangling together into an incomprehensible thicket. She had forgotten to buy a mask, and could feel passerbys glancing at her. She was about to give up and return to the guild - parties are pointless anyway - when she spotted a familiar figure navigating through the crowd in a wheelchair. Her brother grinned at her from beneath a bright green mask, and Aln couldn't help but smile back, twisting her fingers into a greeting. "No mask?" he replied, hands tracing the familiar patterns of the sign language they had invented. "I forgot. Is it really necessary?" His response was to toss a spare at her, a simple depiction of a bird with wings of fire. "A phoenix?" She asked, curious. He shrugged. "I just got what the vendor had left. What's a phoenix?" "A mythical firebird from the Earths. Supposedly it's reborn from its own ashes when it dies." "Fitting for this festival, then." Aln slipped the mask over her head. It obscured her peripheral vision, and she felt a touch claustrophobic as Torenat began to lead her through the crowd. Finally, he stopped in a square where a bonfire burned. She could see musicians playing in a corner, beneath a string of bright lanterns. "So what now?" she asked her brother. He looked slightly amused. "Go have fun. Talk to some new people. I passed a storyteller on the way to find you; they might still be performing. I'm going to go find us some food." He started to leave, then turned back. "And no sneaking off. You promised to stay for at least 2 hours." He vanished into the crowd, and Aln sighed, stepping into a corner. I don't know what I was thinking, she told her spren. 2 hours of this? I should be finishing my research. She glanced out at the crowd again, and her hand drifted to the book in her pocket.
  9. Technically, all that got bigger was the building... But yeah, I see your point.
  10. It depends on what sort of scary you mean. If you're just talking in terms of raw power to destroy, I'd probably have to go with Odium. I mean, he's Splintered at least 3 Shards. If we're talking about unpredictability (which I think can be pretty scary), then Szeth can be pretty terrifying; with someone like Odium, we at least roughly know the intent of his power and his goals. With Szeth, though, his actions are dictated entirely by the whims of others. The same holds for the insane Heralds such as Nale.
  11. Thank you, mods! The Alleyverse wouldn't be here without your hard work; we are all deeply in your debt.
  12. Quick question: I'm able to see the forum for White Sand Prose without having a password to input, and I also don't see a place where one would enter a password in the first place. In addition, I received a copy of the Aether of Night manuscript, but I could see that forum before I got it. Is there something I'm missing? Thank you.
  13. It's reasonable that the Scholar's Guild could have been around for a lot longer in this timeline, I think.
  14. Seeing an Aon isn't the same thing as being able to recreate it. I mean, my house might contain electronic lights, but that doesn't mean I could just build a lamp. Plus, the Aons used for normal living wouldn't be dangerous, anyway, because they're used for normal living. It's like worrying that kids might start building bombs because they can see a laptop, and they could theoretically look it up in the library. Look, I agree with you that it's not impossible for an Elantrian child to learn how to draw a dangerous Aon. I just don't think that it would be a common enough occurrence that they wouldn't be able to deal with it on an individual basis.
  15. You seem to have already found the answer, but just in case you or someone else needs further clarification, "head canon" is when you have a particular idea about a work of fiction that you choose to believe, sometimes regardless of what the author days. For example, I might say that I have a head canon that Sarene loves chocolate, even if we have no evidence that that's true
  16. I was able to find this quote from the coppermind: "Resealing is expected to work in a similar fashion to Aon Ien, and to a lesser extent other healing methods throughout the cosmere." While this isn't conclusive, it seems to imply that Resealing is more of an instant fix than a continuous process. If that is the case, then I expect that burning aluminum would not affect a past Resealing. If you're currently under the effects of a soul stamp, however, aluminum would probably disrupt it, as it is a continuous process. For Ashravan to burn aluminum would likely result in his death (although Shai did theorize that he might not need the treatment after a few years - depending on when he burns the aluminum, sometthing of his mind may still remain).
  17. I fee like Sarene would be one of those people that pick up like 5 new hobbies, just because she can't deal with the boredom.
  18. A very interesting point. If the passage of souls to the Spiritual Realm is disrupted by the investiture storm in the Cognitive, what do you suppose that placing someone into the perpendicularity on the mountain does? Does it supersede the transition through the Cognitive and send one directly to the Spiritual Realm? Or perhaps all souls on Sel are absorbed into the Dor on death, and the perpendicularity merely makes that process painless.
  19. I love that deleted scene. I agree that it needed to be removed, but I think it's a wonderful little tidbit. Perhaps I'm just biased because I always want to see more of Hoid, though.
  20. Children can learn how to draw Aons, yes, but they still have to be taught, just like piano. I think the point that's being made is that no one would teach children how to draw the more destructive Aons, and the complexity of such means that it's unlikely for the children to pick them up on their own.
  21. Perhaps the rabbit is merely a nod to the way Hoid mentioned fluffy bunny rabbits to Kaladin.
  22. I'd like to resubmit my character of Aln for the next Era, please. I haven't really changed anything about her abilities, but there have been some alterations to her backstory. I'm going to ping @Sorana as politely as I can, as it's possible that the change I've made to Aln's backstory could affect Temeria. Obviously it doesn't have to if you don't want, but it would change how Aln interacts with her. I haven't really made any changes to the Scholar's Guild, except for the fact that the building is a bit bigger and includes some rooms for the members. Please let me know if anything on the character sheet needs to be adjusted. Thanks!
  23. So how is the Guild power reduction going to affect the Scholar's Guild? It's not super powerful now, but will there be any changes I have to make? Also, will the PlasmaCore plot have happened? And how drastic can character changes be? Sorry for all the questions - I'm trying to figure how much to alter Aln's timeline.
