  1. The girl's reply was very unhelpful, and she began to circle him. Truly, these people knew not how to treat a king. The door opened, and several people slipped out without even asking his leave. Perhaps it was time for a demonstration. He summoned his Shardblade, a huge, angular tool, and Lashed himself upward so that he hovered between the wooden beams of the roof and the shabby carpet on the floor. "I am your King," he repeated icily, "and you will address me as such."
  2. Aln watched as the man seemed to digest the information she had given him. She had done her best to keep from straying into complex realmatic theory, but it was still a lot to take in. It was clear that he had lost his memory, so she likely wouldn't be able to glean much information from him. She was about to ask a question when a flicker of movement caught her eye. She looked over and saw a tall Terrisman standing near the doorway. She jumped a bit, then stood, cursing herself for facing away from the door. How long had he been there? "Hello," she said, extending a hand. "I'm Aln. What brings you to the Scholar's Guild?" @mathiau @Ookla the Quill
  3. Aln narrowed her eyes slightly. He's haunted by a dead spren and instinctively drawn to Stormlight, but he doesn't know what any of it means. Fascinating. I wonder what happened to his head. She extended a hand to help him to his feet. "Sit down. I'll get you some water, and then I'll explain as much as I can."
  4. A figure covered in vines, with scratched out eyes...Aln felt a chill. A dead spren. Vines would have to mean Cultivation spren, right? Did he have a Shardblade, or was it a broken bond? Aln started to turn to a book shelf, wondering if there was an account of a Radiant who was haunted by a dead spren, but she stopped herself, remembering the presence of the man. She looked back at him. "Stay calm. If I'm correct, you're seeing into the Cognitive Realm right now. The apparation is a dead spren, a Cultivationspren if I'm not mistaken. Do you own a Shardblade?" @Ookla the Quill
  5. Aln stumbled back as he pushed past her, dashing towards the lamp of Stormlight on the wall. She felt a brief surge of panic. Was this a robbery? Then he twisted around and fell over, yelling incoherently, and thrashing about. Delusions, then? Had that happened when he had hit his head? No, she had healed that. Cautiously, she began to approach, holding out her hands soothingly. "Sir, there's nothing there. What do you see?" Her eyes strayed to the light on the wall. Why had he made directly for it? Could he be another Radiant? He had mentioned feeling tugged, in some way. It was too early to jump to conclusions, but Aln couldn't help the surge of excitement. She had met other Radiants, of course, but not many. Most tended to stay on Roshar to fight the Voidbringers.
  6. The room largely seemed to ignore him. Rathar stiffened in indignation. A woman sauntered over to him, still holding a drink. He clasped his fingers together to keep himself from summoning his Shardblade and teaching them all respect. They'll learn soon enough, he reminded himself. Patience. He felt his spren stir in his mind at the insolent question. "Are we to tolerate this?" He gave a slight, dismissive flick of his chin. A king must have self control. Instead, he merely stared haughtily down at the woman, who stood nearly a head shorter than he. "I am the High King Alderbon, and you will address me as such," he repeated, the edges of his tone sharpening. "As you have approached, I shall allow you the honor of informing me. This building. What is it called?" @Ookla the Foxed
  7. Rathar Alderbon strode through the darkened streets of the Sanctuary, his newly acquired package heavy in his pocket. I must remember to commend Panteros. This is truly a remarkable device. Peasants ducked out of his way as he approached, although they likely didn't recognize him. That will soon change. Ahead, the soft light of a tavern caught his eye. It wouldn't hurt to make my presence known to the commoners, he decided, and a Push on the metal latch slammed open the door. He stepped inside, haughty eyes taking in the room. It wasn't crowded, but he could feel his subjects staring at him.* "Greetings. I am High King Alderbon. You are granted the privilege of serving me." His voice boomed intentionally, echoing in the quiet room. @Ookla the Dreamer @Ookla the Maybe-ExistentMaybeMaybMaybe-Existent @Anyone else in the tavern
  8. Tugs at him? There was a strange light in the man's eye. Aln swallowed. Still, who was she to deny access to a library? She pushed open the door, removing the sign as she did so, and held it open. "Sure." She realised absently that she had given him her full name. Instinctive formality had been more common, recently. A patch of light out of the corner of her eye indicated the presence of her spren. What do you think happened to this man? She asked him. He gave the mental equivalent of a shrug, but did not retreat into her pocket. Perhaps he was getting bolder.
  9. Aln stood reflexively as the man scrambled backwards. His voice was as rough as the rubble beneath their feet, and nearly as hostile. "I'm Alanis Sheneth," she replied cautiously, "leader of the Scholar's Guild." She gestured at the familiar building behind. Aln longed to ask his name, to inquire what he was doing or what happened to him, but she restrained herself. Bombarding the poor man with questions would likely get her nowhere. "Are you okay?" She asked instead, contenting herself with the cliche. Hopefully he didn't resent the healing. She tried not to use Investiture on unwilling subjects, but it was hard to see how someone would object to the repair of a concussion.
  10. Aln strode through the street, eager to be home. The meeting had been frustratingly unproductive, and... well, she still wasn't sure how she felt about Temeria's appearance. It would be difficult, of course, but it was nice not to be entirely alone. Probably. She slowed to a stop as she noticed a figure slumped against the building, apparently unconscious. Reaching for the spheres in her pocket, she bent down to examine him. The man's clothes were dirty and his face unkempt. He appeared to have hit his head on the stone - there was a smear of blood - but she could see no other injuries. Drawing a deep breath of Stormlight, she poured healing into his wounds. @Ookla the Quill
  11. Also- you know you're a Sanderfan when the word "investiture" comes up in a Quizbowl question, and you immediately make eye contact with your Sanderfan friend.
  12. You know you're a Sanderfan when you legitimately use the word "storms" instead of cursing in real life. I've gotten some odd looks off of it.
  13. Aln stared at her food, considering. She hardly wanted to let Temeria wander the city on her own - Aln wasn't sure if she had truly given up the idea of contacting the DA - but it would be so much easier. She wasn't letting her sister down if her sister wanted to leave, right? She was distracted from answering by a vibration in one of her coat pockets. Aln had finally sprung for a small cheap cell phone, although she still preferred spanreeds over the Alleyverse's inconsistent networks. A glance at the screen revealed a message from one John Howards, and she cursed mentally. She had scheduled a meeting with him for . . . 5 minutes ago. She stood hurriedly, picking up her bag. "I'm sorry, I just realized that I'm late for an appointment. Tomorrow evening should work - you know where to find me." She fished in her pocket, and retrieved a few spheres for the meal, which she set down next to her plate. Then she hesitated. This was her first encounter with a family member in years, and she was dashing off partway through? After a moment's debate, she pulled out a Scholar's Guild spanpen and set it down as well. "If you need to contact me, just use this." Aln didn't have an unlimited supply, but this seemed important. She began awkwardly to leave, then turned back. "Don't do anything dangerous, okay?" And she was gone, the door swinging shut after her.
  14. Aln shrugged. "I was just wondering. I like to compare notes with other worldhoppers sometimes." She looked down. Temeria had put down her fork, and for a moment they sat in silence. Remembering her own food, Aln slowly took a bite of the now lukewarm meal. Temeria was right - it was good. Bursting with flavor, it provided a nice contrast to the plain dishes she normally consumed. A blinking in her satchel caught her attention. It was connected to the post office- it appeared her package had come in. Putting the alert out of her mind, she looked back at Temeria. She didn't know what to say, and the other woman's gaze was oppressive. She suddenly felt a burning desire to be anywhere but here. She tried to distract herself with another bite, then gave a meager attempt at small talk. "So, what do you like to do?"
  15. I do like the idea of establishing an education system, and I think we should make that a priority. If Brightweave can help, then let's visit her. It's also probably a good idea to establish some connections among our peers. [X] Visit Brightweave I'm also not opposed to meeting with the intruder. Personally, I'm curious about his intentions, and I think that Songbearer would be as well. [X] Visit the thief
  16. Am I supposed to do another roast? Sorry. Here's a quick haiku. Scadrial shall win Larkins are overrated You pathetic pet. @John203 @Paranoid King
  17. Rathar Alderbon, High King of all the Cosmere, surveyed his territory. He was suspended from nothing several hundred feet in the air, the harsh winds whipping about his cloak. Below, lights faintly glimmered, the only evidence of life on the bleak landscape. Behind them loomed the monolithic shape of the World Spike. Finally. In a sudden burst of motion, he released his Lashing and began to plummet. The air whistled in his ears, and the buildings grew rapidly beneath his feet. In the last moment before impact, he drew into himself a gasp of Stormlight. The cobblestones shattered, and a burst of light exploded in every direction. The dust settled to reveal Alderbon standing, a wickedly sharp, angular Shardblade in his outstretched hand. Every inquisitive bystander suddenly found a place to be, and the street was soon deserted. Dragging his sword behind him, Alderbon strode into the night. He had an appointment to keep.
  18. Sarah gasped. Myriad? Killed? She had been lost in her own thoughts, idly admiring the beauty of the caves, but this jolted her back to reality. A seed of determination began to creep into her mind, strengthened by anger. Her expression hardened, taking on what her father had always referred to as her "battle face". She pushed past the others and peered into the cave. Sure enough, there lay the body of Myriad, surrounded by blood. The message above the corpse taunted her, and she nearly marched into the cavern to confront its author. Something, though, (perhaps the remnants of her common sense) stopped her mid-stride. The rest of the group was going in a different direction - did she really think that she could handle whatever had murdered Myriad on her own? A long moment of hesitation followed. Finally, reluctantly she turned back to the group, and began to follow Corette. "What did that?" She wondered aloud. @Oduim’s Chmapion
  19. Aln nodded distractedly. "Indeed it is." Her own meal lay untouched upon the table. "Could you tell me more about these traders?"
  20. Aln tried to hide her shock. How could her sister speak so casually of murder? Perhaps she was missing something in Temeria's tone. But the woman had been what, 16? Aln clenched her hands in her pockets to keep them from shaking. "So how did you manage on Nalthis?" She said, focusing instead on the latter part of the story. The was nearly too distracted to wonder about the worldhopping cart. Who would that have been?
  21. His keen senses do not reach Tin, no. He can be confusing, but he doesn't really try to lie to people; he's just frequently mistaken due to his unique perspective. He sees himself as the hero of the story, so he's unlikely to deliberately deceive. I think they're mostly just NPCs. Theoretically, they could join in a fight, but most of the time the character will insist on doing these things alone. Thank you.
  22. I'd like to submit a character for approval, please. *I am aware that this backstory likely contradicts established Alleyverse lore; unfortunately, I don't know the lore that this would be. If someone more well-versed in these matters would point out the flaws to me, I would be quite grateful and would subsequently change the story. So, with the followers this is probably over the point limit, but I thought I'd submit it to get a sense for how everything's rated and what I need to change. Sorry for the trouble. Thank you!
  23. In response to Temeria's question, Aln moved the illusion closer to her sister, leaving it floating above her plate. She nearly began to elaborate, but cut off as the waiter approached the table, eyes wide. She reflexively banished the Lightweaving, but the damage was done; the entire restaurant had likely seen it. Their server bowed - significantly more respectfully than he had last time, she noticed - then inquired of their orders. Temeria answered quickly, although she hadn't looked at the menu once. "And for you, Brightness Radiant?" He asked, eyes darting to where the globe had been. She caught the flicker of discontent in his eyes when she ordered a men's dish; clearly he disliked the contradiction between her status as a "holy" figure of legend and her open defiance of Rosharan religious custom. She wondered what it must have been like for him to enter the Alleyverse and suddenly walk among gods. What was his story? She suddenly felt embarrassed about her eagerness to flaunt her powers. It was a frivolous waste of Stormlight, and only drew attention. Glancing at a neighboring table, she spotted her own name drifting amidst the conversation. It made her uncomfortable that people knew who she was, but it was largely inevitable; you don't get to be the leader of a guild, even a small one, without gaining some degree of infamy. She sighed, turning back to Temeria. "I've talked enough about myself. What about you? You were a soldier on Idris for a while, I know, but it's been 10 years. What was it like?"
