@I think I am here. @Sorana

At the moment Songbearer is eager to dive into politics, but I don't think that he's the type to go in unprepared. I would guess that he'd do extensive research, perhaps even visiting the docks and speaking to the workers. It's possible that he'd want to speak to another Returned as well, but I don't think that that'd be his priority. I would propose that he studies for his proposal in Court, and then actually speaks to some of the people. This could be done during petitions, or it he could seek them out himself. Mac had left her a house? Aln had heard of his boardinghouse, now that she mentioned it, but there seemed to be something she was missing. "Did Mac go somewhere?" she asked carefully.

"She was at the meeting," Sarah broke in. "She's been following us. I figured it was better to tell you." Sarah shot an apologetic look Fasi's way. It did feel rather like tattling, but what else should she do? @Oduim’s Chmapion @ZincAboutIt @Sorana

Glancing back to be sure Fasi followed, Sarah led the way into the larger cavern. She could see the employees separated into groups, conversing, between large stone trees. Huh, she thought. Did someone carve those, or are they natural? Drifting through the air was a warm steam. It reminded Sarah of Scadrial, and she felt a brief pang of homesickness. This was banished by curiosity pretty quickly, and she hastened her step forward. Sarah wondered if she should tell the Scout Leaders about Fasi. She didn't want to get the girl in trouble, or anything, but it seemed that it would be more dangerous for her to follow alone. Seeing Corette talking with a group of people, Sarah approached. "Excuse me, Scout Leader?" @ZincAboutIt@Anyone else over there

"I do," she responded. "I've got an apartment on the second floor. And I have done legwork sometimes. I used to do a lot more. Recently, though, I've been... less inclined toward such activity." Aln tried not to think of the last time she had gotten involved. She banished the searing pain, the writhing insects, and the gunshots to the deep recesses of her mind, but she could not repress a shudder. "Where are you staying?" she asked quickly, attempting to conceal her emotions with a question.

"Something to drink? Sure." She had half risen when Temeria asked another question. An expedition? It seemed an odd thing to ask about. Still, the least she could do was answer. "Just one moment," she answered, standing. Aln slipped through a door in the back of the room, and returned a minute or two later with a tall glass of water. This she handed to Temeria, before seating herself back down. "In answer to your question, I don't exactly go on many expeditions myself, unless you count the occasional interview or walk to the store. Most of my work is here." She gestured at the papers cluttering her desk. "I've got a couple of guild members who are doing some exploring right now, if that's what you mean."

Sarah watched the creature leave, then turned back to Fasi. "Well, I'm not leaving you alone up here, and I want to see what the source of that glow is." She retrieved her rope from her bag and began dexterously tying it around the protrusion of rock. She kicked the other end down, and listened to it splash at the bottom. "I'll go first, just to be safe." Sarah carefully scrambled over the edge, both hands holding tight to the line. After a few moments, the sloshing of boots in water indicated her descent. "Your turn," came the call, echoing from the depths. Beneath, Sarah stared in awe at the thundering waterfall that cascaded over glowing rocks. The rippling patterns of light seemed something out of another world- which, she had to keep reminding herself, they were. Past it, she could see the dark outlines of huge rocks, almost shaped like trees. Between them moved the figures of the other scouts. Sarah grinned. @Oduim’s Chmapion

Sarah looked uncertain. "I think we could just use a stalagmite." She gestured at one that stood relatively near the hole. @Sorana @Oduim’s Chmapion

Althea had sent this thing? Well, Sarah had seen stranger. "I do still have my rope. We can probably make it down without any huge problem." She glanced at Fasi. "What's at the bottom? Is it safe?" @Sorana @Oduim’s Chmapion
-
"It talked to us," she retorted. "It might be friendly." Sarah looked back at it, realizing that they were being rather rude. "Sorry." @Sorana @Oduim’s Chmapion

Sarah jumped again when the creature spoke. Out of the corner of her eye, she could see Fasi drawing lines of chalk on the rough stone at their feet. "Um," she said nervously, "maybe? Who are you?" @Oduim’s Chmapion @Sorana

Could I perhaps participate in this? Is there a particular order lacking in members?

"But how were you planning to get down things like this-" she turned and gestured at the drop, just in time to see Allri leave without her. Rusts. The rest of her objection dying on her lips, Sarah hurried forward and peered over the edge. The bottom of the tunnel was lit in a pale golden light, which shimmered through the water at the bottom. The last person, the Mistborn, moved out of view. This was just wonderful. Now she was trapped between a glowing field of soporific mushrooms and a dangerous drop. And she had to look after a disobedient teenager. Sarah turned back toward Fasi, trying not to let her frustration show on her face. That was when she noticed the tiny black creature standing on a rock behind her. Sarah yelped and instinctively moved backward. She caught hold of a stalagmite before she could fall, and hurriedly took a few steps away from the shaft. The thing appeared to be made of darkness, shaped in a rough caricature of a person. Was this another dangerous inhabitant of the mines? She began to reach for her staff. @Oduim’s Chmapion @Sorana

Temeria sat silent for a moment, her hand reaching into her pocket. Aln watched it. What was in there? Could Temeria have found a metalmind somewhere? That would explain the earlier question, but it also seemed unlikely. Temeria began to speak again, after a moment, and Aln returned her gaze to her sister's face. She was surprised by the expression she found there. Much of the hatred had fled, leaving Temeria with a much softened face, a hint of sincerity peeking out of her eyes. She suddenly looked a lot more like the ten-year old that Aln had left behind. Perhaps it would be possible to become close. She couldn't suppress the shiver of fear and guilt that accompanied that thought, but somehow the idea of doing otherwise frightened her even more. "I suppose it was," Aln answered, pulling herself out of her thoughts. "There were some dangerous moments, but-" She paused. How to articulate her feelings? "The world is massive," she finally continued, "and the universe more so. There are more things to see than anyone possibly could in a thousand lifetimes, more people to meet, more things to learn. That can be intimidating, and I won't pretend that I never felt scared or alone. But having an opportunity to be a part of it, to unearth even a fraction of the knowledge in out there, was a dream come true." She leaned forward a bit, unconsciously, as her eyes lit up with excitement. "There's always something new to find, and I want to share that with everyone I can." Storms. It had been a while since Aln had really just talked to someone, had gotten a chance to explain her own views. Perhaps she had said too much.

"What, down there?" she gestured over her shoulder at the shaft. "They'll barely notice I'm gone. Were you planning to follow us the whole time?"
-
Distracted, Sarah looked around. No one else seemed particularly bothered by the sudden appearance of the teenager. As the others began to be lowered into the cavern by the two Metalborn, Sarah pulled Fasi aside. "Have you been here the whole time? This place is dangerous!" A sudden glow burst from the dark shaft, and Sarah turned to look. Rusts, I could have been down there already. What's going on? But she turned back to Fasi and raised an interrogative eyebrow.

Presenting the rap of Steris Ladrian: You could argue that there are a few parts rather out of character for Steris to say, but I would counter that Steris creating a rap at all is completely out of character. I didn't have much choice.- 2784 replies

Sarah shrugged. "Sure." She wasn't about to argue with a Coinshot- he was clearly better suited to the descent than she. Still, she couldn't help feeling a little disappointed that she wouldn't be the first to see whatever was down there. If it was half as spectacular as what they'd already seen, it would be worth any dangerous climb. "I've got some metal clasps on my bag and clothing," she mentioned. "Will that work?" Suddenly, Fasi materialized beside her. Sarah let out a yell, echoing the girl's own, and stumbled backward. "How..." she stammered. "Where In rusting Harmony's name did you come from? Wasn't your application rejected?" @Oduim’s Chmapion @ZincAboutIt @TrailRunnin

Sarah looked up and saw several of the other Scouts approaching. She finished tying her rope to a nearby stalagmite, then took a deep breath. The resulting jolt of wooziness reminded her that she was still in a cave of soporific mushrooms, and she shook her head at herself. "I'll go down," she called at the approaching group of people. "Could someone let out the slack as I descend? It doesn't look like there's a way to climb." @ZincAboutIt @Invocation

Sarah had removed a towel from her pack and tied it around her face. This is why I never leave home without a towel, she thought, satisfied with the effectiveness of her mask. Stepping through the haze of mushrooms, she noticed a woman lying face down, nestled among the fungi. Althea made a beeline for her and began to shake her awake. Their Scout Leaders, who had managed to awaken themselves, gathered around, and the woman began to posture threateningly. Sarah glanced around the cavern for any other signs of life as Althea began to explain the situation to the newcomer. It appears that finding random strangers in these caves will be a common-place occurrence, she thought, amused. As the conversation progressed, Sarah found herself with little to contribute. Instead, she began to survey the cavern, poking her stick through the mushrooms and rounding the perimeter. Every motion released a cloud of spores, sending rushes of dizziness to her head, and she wondered what the purpose of the gasses were. Was is to keep away predators? If so, what predators? She had never had much patience for studying, but is seemed to her that a massive worm with Soothing abilities would have little interest in mushrooms. That meant that there had to be something else down here. She finished her round of the cave, noting the exits on a her map; the tablet had included an application that was apparently meant to assist in mapping, but Sarah was far more comfortable with a bit of paper. The cavern was shaped like a long tunnel, sloping gently downwards. She had peered into the darkness at the point where the luminescent mushroom field came to an end, put her headlight had barely been able to penetrate. As far as she could tell, it ended in a some sort of a drop, but she couldn't discern the depth. "There's some sort of a drop ahead," she called back at the group. "We'll need some rope." Even as she said this, she was fishing a length out from her pack and tying it around her waist. @ZincAboutIt @Sorana @TrailRunnin @AonEne @Invocation @I think I am here.

"I'll help," said Sarah. She could see the shimmering mushrooms sprawled out along the ground, slowly releasing spores into the air. The purple light reflected off of the maze of thin stalagmites in such a way that it increased the soporific effects of the fungi. Sarah found herself needing to look away. "I'll need a mask, though. Do you think a piece of cloth would be enough?"
