  6. The magic system I'm currently working on involves changing limits (name ideas welcome). There are three kinds: physical, intellectual, and metaphorical. Physical limits are what they sound like. They are the easiest to change. Some examples of physical limits that can be changed: Noise limit Lifespan Growth Height (this can get gruesome if the upper limit is below someone's current height or the lower limit is above someone's height) Visibility Color How high something can jump Intellectual limits are the capacity for certain types of thought. These involve changing an individual's abilities and don't impact others. Some examples of intellectual limits: Perception Speech Sentience (it's very difficult to change sentience levels, as it requires raising the intellectual limit of everything in general) Focus Ability to communicate Metaphorical limits are more abstract concepts. They are the hardest to change, but you can get pretty creative with it and set limits on very arbitrary things. Examples: What something can "find" Unity (this could make something break apart into pieces on more than just a physical level) Luck Truth (this would impact what others believe and potentially reality itself) What qualifies as "prey" Time Changing limits almost always causes additional, unpredictable changes. These can change something's appearance, personality, etc. This makes it incredibly dangerous to experiment with, depending on the limit and how far it is being pushed. Changing the limits of humans is both illegal and wildly foolhardy, so animals are often used in experiments instead. This has led to a variety of creatures being artificially created and embedding themselves in the ecosystem, reproducing and creating a new species. Limits can be changed for living creatures, objects, or general areas. Changing a limit permanently for every instance of it is theoretically possible, but would be incredibly difficult and almost certainly disastrous. Altering limits requires Luminescence. This is a life force found in all living creatures that floats away when they die. It must be used immediately after death, although ways of storing/transporting it are being researched. This means magic users can frequently be seen carrying around potted plants to kill for their Luminescence. Sometimes killing an animal is required for more powerful changes, as they have more Luminescence. Humans have the most, so those seeking power in nefarious ways might kill someone to change a limit significantly. Theologians are split on what exactly Luminescence is. Some believe it is the soul, others just a strange biological quirk. (I'm not gonna go more into Luminescence for now since that would derail this post )
  7. It's cool! Are there any tells that someone could use to see if they are a Faceless or ways to revert them back to their original form forcefully?
  8. Thanks for following me!

  9. I like the unique take on phoenix resurrection! Does the two egg limit reset when they get resurrected? Joiners:
  10. I like them! The Hollow is my favorite, it sounds terrifying. Does each world have a different ecosystem or do they generally have the same weather/terrain? I think an idea of something to make could be an animal that's harmless and non-intimidating, if that works with your setting. Maybe something characters have gotten used to (in-world equivalent of pigeons, basically) but is foreign to the reader. Also, here's Criers.
  11. This thread is great motivation for making things Here's a pest:

  21. Granted. You have now joined a gang. I wish for a two-dollar bill.
  22. @Part Of The Narrative Jenny glanced around, then realized that she had no idea what they looked like. She decided to just follow Jack's lead. His name was Jack, right? She was 75% sure it was Jack.
  23. I actually just started creating the creatures for my world last night, so I've only got one other at the moment. The magic system revolves around changing limits- physical, intellectual, and metaphorical. Physical is obvious. Intellectual increases the capacity for certain types of thoughts. Metaphorical allows messing with abstract concepts. Physical is easiest and metaphorical is hardest. Shifters have an extreme physical change and Blabbers have a limited intellectual change (they didn't achieve full sentience because that would require increasing the capacity for all thoughts). Another one I made are Finders. They are like bloodhounds, but were metaphorically altered to be able to find things like emotions. More info on them in the spoiler box:
  24. "Roy came with us, right? Is there anyone else?" It felt like there should be lots of people going to stop a massive war from breaking out. Only sending three seemed like it wasn't a very smart idea.
  25. "Hmm." If the casino was destroyed, then she wouldn't be able to keep dancing. Maybe she could come back after they finished whatever their quest thing was. "Alright. We should probably leave, then." Jenny stepped off of the arrow pad, visibly reluctant to stop the game. She watched the arrows scroll by on the screen sadly. She'd been getting close to a high score again.
