An oxymoron is basically something that’s self-contradictory, so something like seriously funny or love hate relationship.

This is a bit like saying "stone rock" or "glowing light"?

Not an oxymoron, but redundant. Unless I'm misunderstanding the situation.

That’s the argument here- is kitten cat the equivalent of “cat cat” or “baby adult”?

Depends on your perspective- it could also be considered as “baby cat” and cat could technically be considered as “adult cat”. Or it couldn’t be if you use different definitions/interpretations of the word.

Is it the literal definition and the obvious perpendicular conjunction of either word that we seek, or the spirit of the meaning behind the two?

‘Tis the argument!
