Oathbringer, closer to the end becomes what I think is one of the best pieces of fantasy literature ever written. It's true that Shallans whole Adolin/Kaladin flirt sessions can be distracting, and even outright annoying, but don't let that take away from how awesome stuff gets later on.

Aimia is an island chain of the West coast of Shinovar in the Physical Realm. Kaza, the woman you mentioned (cousin to a prince, not the kings sister) was turning into smoke before they reached the islands due to being a soulcasting savant, and was trying to find a cure on Aimia. This condition allowed her to be able to see partially into the cognitive realm.

Shallan and Kaladin dislike each other so much....
Zurvanight replied to Benedictify's topic in Stormlight Archive
The closest I think we ever got to a sex scene in a book written by Brandon was like Towers of Midnight or A Memory of Light where it was essential to Mr. Jordan's plot, and even then it was really, really tame. Like fade to black moment. I understand he doesn't much care for them which is good because they are distracting. -
I like Edgedancers. It's funny how they were considered the most graceful and refined of all the orders and the first one we meet is a street urchin who steals breakfast and likes to talk about butts.

Glad to see it's a popular theory, so I hope it happens. I like the idea of it being accidental to be honest, like the Aimians despite having kept it there for probably thousands of years to study it, still didn't know how to use it properly. Odium does enough damage just being Odium, and I've always liked the idea of people stupidly activating technology they don't understand haha.

I read this about a few months ago and loved it. I was afraid when I couldn't get into it much at first but after Sancia meets up with the other characters it gets like a hundred times better. I was a bit weirded out by the modern American slang though. Sancia interacting with Scrived(scrivened?) objects is always pretty funny. Also Berenice is the best character. I always imagine her as this sleepy eyed blonde haired (not sure what her hair color actually is) girl in a formal dress who's constantly fiddling with parts in Orso's workshop.

Is magic: the gathering lore worth getting into?
Zurvanight replied to king of nowhere's topic in Entertainment Discussion
I really liked the Dominaria storyline, especially the parts about Yawgmoth, Phyrexia, and the Weatherlight. Ravnica, Innistrad, and Zendikar are my favorite worlds in mtg. Mirrodin was also a favorite way back when I actually used to play lol. -
Has anyone suggested Aimia as hiding spot for BAM?
Zurvanight replied to Toaster Retribution's topic in Stormlight Archive
That's actually a good point and I feel stupid for not thinking about that. -
I stated this on another thread but I'd like some more opinions if possible. I also have no clue if there is any WoB on this. I think that Aimia is hiding a Dawnshard. The "Scouring of Aimia" was an accidental or purposeful activation of the Dawnshard which ended up devastating the island chains ecosystem but was shutdown before any more damage could be dealt. The book Mythica that talks about the Unmade mentions that Dai-Gonarthis might have had something to do with the Scouring, but the author Hessi admits that they do not know how. I think that Odium or Dai-Gonarthis found out that there was a Dawnshard on Aimia and went there to either take or destroy it, but instead it was activated causing the Scouring. Furthermore, during an interlude in Oathbringer, a ship crew that makes it to Akinah, The capital of Aimia, gets poisoned by a Sleepless agent on board. Before killing them, the Sleepless tells one of the crew that they are protecting a secret that could end worlds. What ended Ashyn? The Dawnshards. What do you guys think?

Hope you guys don't mind the necro on this thread lol, anyways this is a cutscene in FFXIV that happens during the Binding Coil of Bahamut raid. Better known as Bahamut vs Phoenix.

About Shallan...I can understand why people don't like her, especially in OB where's she's constantly flitting back and forth between Adolin and Kaladin and it's kinda distracting. I loved her in Way of Kings especially when she was around Jasnah for the first half of the book. In Words of Radiance I always figured she developed a crush on Kaladin because they were trapped in the chasms, in a life or death situation while being stalked by a giant crab monster lol. A kind of suspension bridge effect where she mistook the stress as infatuation.

Sanderson writes and publishes more than most authors in a year, he'll be fine. I'd rather he not team up with anyone lol. Also there's only one more Wax and Wayne book planned after Bands of Mourning, and then it's 3rd Era Mistborn.

Which Cast Would Like to Make Puns the Most?
Zurvanight replied to Invocation's topic in Cosmere Discussion
I feel like Wayne and Mat Cauthon would get along well. And then drink and gamble all night while making terrible jokes. -

Yeah thats what I figured the "Scouring of Aimia" was. Maybe one of Odium's Unmade or Odium himself discovered Aimia was hiding a Dawnshard, and so the Unmade went there to take or destroy it, but something went wrong, and either the Unmade, or the Aimians accidentally activated it, devastating the islands, but was stopped or contained before more damage could be done, hence the Sleepless guarding it. -
Keep an eye on Zahel too lol

The way I discovered Brandon was actually kinda funny. You know those TOR battles that pit different fictional characters against each other? Well one of them was Roland Deschain and Jake Chambers from The Dark Tower vs Vin and Elend Venture and at the time I was all, "there's no way Roland can lose he took out like 50 dudes single handedly at Thunderclap and fought against Doctor Doom Cyberwolves with an army of plate throwing women, he can't lose to some unknown girl and her boyfriend!" But for some reason those two characters stuck around in my head until I finally looked them up and decided to read The Final Empire and my mind changed really quickly after Vin demonstrates a Pewter enhanced drop from the sky with a 6 foot long slab of steel as a weapon lol. Also those TOR battles are terrible, like where a fully strengthened Rand al'Thor loses against Jaime Lannister and the Stormfather loses against a dog lol. I remember Brandon actually writing his own fight scene for the Rand vs Jaime one because he didn't like the outcome lol.

Maybe they have a Dawnshard? Or would that not be possible? I don't think it's ever stated if the Dawnshards were physically destroyed. Possibly lost according to Honor. Maybe they somehow brought one over from Ashyn after they razed it? The Sleepless who kills the ship crew that makes it to Akinah says it's protecting a secret that could end worlds. Sounds like a Dawnshard to me. -
Trails of Cold Steel has an amazing soundtrack

Final Fantasy XIV Primal and Boss quote dump: "Mine age of slumber is at an end. A thousand suns may set, but the insult of mine imprisonment hath been etched upon mine eternal memory. I am come to mete out justice. To bestow the blessings of victory unending. I am Zurvan. He who standeth above all other gods. He who shall bring slaughter and ruin!" - Zurvan, The Demon "Patience and penance...for millennia have I yearned to enact this vengeance! I am the end and the beginning! By my touch shall your wretched lives be blessed!" - Sephirot, The Fiend "I am of the first brood! I am vengeance incarnate! I AM NIDHOGG! THOU SHALT DIE BY MY HAND!" - The Black Wyrm, Nidhogg "Does it grieve you to see the depths of your own weakness laid bare? Maggots... You do not belong in my world! Step into Nothing! I am the truth from which you run! I am the lies upon which you sup! I am Revelation! Kneel and repent!" - Argath Thadalfus "In darkness blooms the spider lily..." - Tsukuyomi (I literally gets chills every time she says this lol) "HAHAHAHA TO LIVE IS BUT TO FIGHT! ART THOU WARRIOR OR CRAVEN? VERY WELL, I RAVANA, FOURFOLD MASTER OF THE BLADE DO ACCEPT THY CHALLENGE!" "REJOICE IN THE GLORY OF COMBAT! DANCE TO THE SOUND OF RINGING STEEL!" - Ravana, Lord of the Hive As a bonus something from FFXI: "Mine obsidian blade shall split atwain the threads of thy future, whilst its crimson fuller shalt channel the lifeblood of thy past. Now wail as thy soul is bestrewn across the plains of Valhalla!” - FFXI Odin
