Teacher Suspended for reading Enders Game?
Eerongal replied to guess's topic in Entertainment Discussion
i dunno, about 5 minutes researching anything on the internet can pretty well put it firmly in your mind that what you're researching is porn -
Yeah, that's fine. Also, for spells with EXP costs, since we aren't using them, they're essentially free of that costs, since there's nothing i can really charge you in its stead.

(let me know if you want a party name or anything, i'll change the thread title) Entire Party The ride out from the city is wholly uneventful. As you were told, there was a man waiting a few miles out from the entrance to take back the wagon. Looks like you go on foot from here. The trail rises before you, a set of rocky outcroppings and uneven footing. As you climb the mountain, rocks and debris slow your ascent. Numerous tracks of different creatures ascend the hillside. The climb levels off as you get closer to the cave mouth. You see a man the size of a galleon lying on the ground at the cave opening. As you get closer, you can see that death has taken him. Despite his obviously decomposed state, the man does not exude the odor of decay. There are no signs of a struggle. Who was he, and how did he die?

Teacher Suspended for reading Enders Game?

right, but they're claiming the book is something it isn't, and that's why they're upset. It's one thing if it's not an appropriate book and parents are concerned, it's another thing entirely if they're making things up and upset about it. It's like if your mom had, for whatever reason, equated the hunger games to something like hitler's mein kampf, and that was why she objected, instead of thinking that the subject material is a little too mature for them. It's perfectly valid to have a reasonable complaint, but invalid to have a wild, baseless accusation. Also: I'm relatively sure that somehow the internet is likely to blame for their misconceptions -
Actually, that possibly proves that dense material WILL block it, it just requires it to be of a certain density/thickness. If it gets weaker through a plank of wood, then it stands to reason that either more wood, or better yet, stone, would make them even weaker (being larger, thicker, and denser). Ipso-facto, air solidified and made dense would block it to whatever extent goes with its density/thickness (no idea what that would be, so its hard to say if would or wouldn't block it) (that is, of course, if it's not substance-based as ironeyes says, which is sure i'm something we dont have an answer on either way )

i'm relatively sure (though not 100% positive) that it was mentioned there was a slit/hole in vindicator through which the pull/pushing was done. Though I can't exactly remember the specifics of it, since i didnt really give it much thought. Also, pushing/pulling from behind someone is significantly different than from behind a giant, completely solid piece of anything (stone, air, etc.). If a person could block line of effect, then the system wouldn't work very well for really anyone, but if a giant wall blocks it, then that could just be considered a pretty reasonable limitation on something that follows rules.

Right, but as soon as the channeler gets lifted in the air, they're likely to feel incredibly threatened and in danger (probably assuming it's a male channeler in kelsier's case), so an aes sedai (moraine) could easily deal a quick killing blow (not a concern for male channelers, since they have nothing stopping them from killing). I.E. setting the allomancer on fire/head exploding/etc. And remember than channeling is basically as fast as thought, and an experience channeler can pull out weaves practically on muscle memory alone. They also don't need to SEE their target. And come to think of it, if an allomancer is fully wrapped in air, they likely wouldn't be able to push and pull on any metal, since they wouldn't have line of effect to them. There's effectively a solid stone wall between them and the target, granted, it's invisible. I don't remember there being any particular incident of an allomancer being able to push/pull on something that they don't have a clear, unbroken line of nothing between them to. Which is mainly why i say that if it happens, it would happen by accident (exploding the ground sufficiently, hurling rocks, etc.) and not on purpose.

Discreet Room - Alleyway Seynir, Striax, Umieri, & Sael Tossing his backpack on to the cart, Turjan hops up on the back and turns to face everyone. "Well, does anyone have any last minute business before we get going, or are we ready to head out?" Leaning back against his pack, he splays out and gestures towards Sael, "As for me, I plan on catching a short nap before we get to the dungeon, while my chauffeur drives us all out to the summer house."

i dunno, rand or nyneave might be able to pull it off unaided. Afterall, lews therin drew in more power than he could hold and created the largest mountain known (in randland), dragonmount. And i'm pretty sure at this point, near the end, rand is equal to, if not more powerful than, lews therin. I'll bet either of them could split a large enough chasm in the ground...... Though, i'm relatively sure it wouldn't be something they would know or figure out during the battle. The only way that could be the way the fight ends is by accident. Edit: though, moraine probably couldnt.

i would say that shock would be a VERY hard emotion to riot (if you even could at all), since IIRC the emotion has to be all ready present in the first place before you can effect it with allomancy, Because shock shows up and is almost immediately gone, it's very short lived in general. Plus, reading an Aes Sedai to tell what emotion to sooth/riot would be very difficult since they are masters at keeping their composure (especially moraine) All in all, from a powers perspective, the one power would, IMO, easily beat allomancy. This is because the one power is HIGHLY flexible in what it can do, and almost instantaneous, where as allomancy has a very specific set of powers with very strict rules governing it. Because the one power has the ability to practically do ANYTHING, one who uses it will likely have a very strong advantage towards beating someone who has allomancy. A much more fair fight might be an elantrian vs a channeler.

Apparently, bioware is going to address the ending, sounds like they're going to do some DLC for new endings or something
-
But doesn't it possibly bestow a lesser form of bragomancy at some point? You have no idea how hard it is to read a computer screen when you have spikes for eyes also, the site's blue color scheme doesn't help at all D: All in all, i approve of this topic.

hmm....are you sure? The only reference i can find to rand kissing in book 4 is with elayne in chapter 8 and it appears that part of it was told from elayne's perspective. I'm away from book right now (at work) so I can't really look into it, but that could stem from being shocked and thus losing concentration as opposed to being overwhelmed with a particular emotion (at least in so far as allomancy could do)
-
But.....a hard drive platter is made out of metal.... (aluminum, i believe, and glass/ceramic)
-
I honestly can't think of any times where emotional distress has caused anyone to lose hold of the power. Is there one i'm overlooking? The only times someone has been overrun with emotions while channeling that i can think of are: and those instances ended up very badly for everyone who wasn't him, not made him lose his hold on the power. By contrast, the only times i can think of where people actually lost hold of the power while holding it was when they were unable to concentrate at all
-
in regards to emotional allomancy (and i think i touched on this last year), it depends on who they're up against. If it's a male user of the one power, they would be unaffected because males become completely emotionally unattached and unaware of their emotions while using it. With women, the one power fills them with joy and happiness, so it's kinda hard to say how emotional allomancy would work on them.

Clearly you're just listening to it TOO HARD on the left side and breaking them. Stop that.

Pfft. What sort of conspiracy theory would it be if it let a little thing like the FACTS stand in the way of my baseless claims?

Because it's just COMPLETELY a coincidence that the top 3 rep spots are held by admins..... [/conspiracy seed plant]
