GM Voice: Suddenly, for no particular reason, Seynir's vision....ripples. He find himself standing somewhere else. Also, a quick check shows that he also appears to be in someone else's body! Glancing about, he noticed 3 kobolds standing angrily in front of him. Two carry spears, and one has a sling at the ready. They don't look to friendly.... Roll for initiative.

So....who wants to play some D&D?
Eerongal replied to Eerongal's topic in World's 17thShardest Dungeon
Well, that's up to the party, i suppose, since i can't really FORCE you guys to head to the dungeon, but i believe the plan was for you guys to skip town and head to the dungeon, so pretty much once you get out of town. Also, I could maybe set up a quick scenario later tonight. The way i'm going to work it is that I'm going to draw the scene for you guys to see when a fight comes up, so it'll have to wait until i'm home from work before i can do that -
I would much rather play a game of racquetball against a carrier pigeon than kidnap the dalai lama with nothing but tube socks. It should be obvious, but that's because a carrier pigeon is pretty bad at raquetball, and I really have nothing against the dalai lama.Would you rather be rich and highly unpopular and hated, or be famous and beloved by all but poor?(GO GO TOP OF GOOGLE PAGE SEARCH FOR "dalai lama tube socks"!)

sounds like YOU totally need to play ZZT and super ZZT
-
yup. You can basically remake your character when it imports. I was forced remake my face because it said it couldnt import it

so i got my copy yesterday. I'm really enjoying it so far, but i'm only a few hours in. However, in my opinion, the cover mechanic isn't as good as in the previous games. It seems a lot easier for you to get OUT of cover now, which is bad because i accidentally move out of cover when i dont want to. So i end up standing up quite a bit when im wanting to be ducked behind a rock or something, and getting shot. Also, going on mechanics still, there a change with the weapon system. You still have the same weapon slots as before (assault rifle, sniper rifle, SMG, pistol, and shotgun) but equipping items in those slots are optional. The more weight you have, the longer your cool downs are on your powers. You can also get a BONUS to cool down times if you travel light enough. Makes pretty nice incentive for you to just grab a few small weapons on any power based character, but load up on someone who is fully run and gun.

well, i'm not sure polymorph would grant the wishes ability, though looking at it, it doesnt state what type of ability it is (which is odd, though it can only be one of SP, EX, or SU), so if its SP (spell-like), then you would have to wait until shapechange anyways (which at that point you can all ready cast more than 3 wishes a day anyways), if it's SU (supernatural), then you could get it with the above mentioned feat. I highly doubt it would be EX (extraordinary), since that's for aspects of a creature not magical-based, but are mundane special qualities or abilities. And i highly doubt duplicating a spell is mundane. My money would be on SP, or spell-like, since it duplicates a spell. Also, with the increase size thing, you dont KEEP growing. You grow to get the bonus, transfer the bonus, dismiss the spell, do the same with your familiar, and then rinse and repeat. Because the thing it, the bonus you give to the OTHER creature (you or your familiar) is NOT a size bonus like you get from the spell, it's permanent. So you're basically doing the same thing over and over to keep increasing the amount of permanent strength you're getting. so for example: PC Strength - 10 Familiar Strength - 5 PC uses giant size, strength = 10+32 size bonus, or 42. PC increases familiar's strength to 42. Familiar strength = 42 PC strength = 10+32 size bonus PC dismisses giant size Familiar grants PC 42 Strength PC Strength - 42 Familiar Strength - 42 rinse and repeat. -

Eerongal replied to Eerongal's topic in World's 17thShardest Dungeon
well, it has no practical use because it basically breaks the game. There's literally no way for anyone to challenge pun pun with a real challenge. It basically makes so there's nothing to do for that character. Which is why no DM will allow it, the only reason it was created was because it was a thought experiment. It's basically working within the rules to give yourself everything, and infinity of every number on your character sheet But the basic way it works by using the ability of a creature called a Sarrukh. The sarrukh's ability is: Basically, most serpentine/lizard-like creatures are what it catches under its umbrella when it refers to "scaled ones". In order for it to work (the easiest way, at least) you need to be a kobold with a lizard familiar. What you do is get "assume supernatural ability", which is a feat from savage species. It lets you assume one SU ability when you shapeshift. From there, you polymorph into a Sarrukh and select manipulate form as the SU ability. Now that you have access to it, you use it to grant that same ability to your lizard familiar, also, FYI manipulate form has a caveat that it doesnt work on a Sarrukh, so basically what you're going to do is give it to yourself when you AREN'T a sarrukh. You do this by, like i said, granting it to your familiar, shapeshifting back, then having your familiar grant it to yourself. From there, it's basically gaming a few other abilities to get yourself whatever you want. Every single class feature is either extraordinary, supernatural, or spell-like, except for spell casting. However, any spell can be converted to a spell-like ability. So you can grant any spell to yourself as many times as you want as a spell-like ability. You can also grant yourself any feat you want, by granting yourself an ability from the prestiege class chameleon, which allows you to choose a feat (and you can change it once per day). But you could keep granting it to yourself until you have all feats. As for ability scores, it lets you modify them of each other (you and your familiar) up to whatever you ability score is (so if you have 20 STR, you can increase your familiars score up to 20). So to get it higher, they're basically using a spell from the wu-jen's spell list so increase your size from small to huge, which nets a total of +32 to str. When you have that, you transfer it to your familiar. The thing is, your familiar's strength score is a PERMANENT boost to it, and not just a bonus or anything that doesn't stack with itself. It's as if it started with that score. So from there, you just keep increasing size, transferring the score back and forth compounding upon itself. For the other stats, it uses a couple abilities from two other prestige classes. One of them lets you add your charisma bonus to your dex score. The other ability lets you replace an ability score with another one of your choice for any ability. So from there, instead of adding your charisma to your dex score, replace it with strength, transfer your new huge dexterity score to your familiar, and then have him transfer it to you, so now your BASE score in dex is huge. From there, you just do the same thing for each score, except instead of replacing only the charisma bonus with a huge stat, you also replace the dex bonus which whatever stat you're working on (so if you want to do con, replace dex with con, and then replace charisma with your strength score) and just rinse and repeat until your bonuses are as high as you want. So at this point, you have every feat, every class ability, every spell, and your ability scores are however high you want them to be. The link above will also cover other things like reach, skills, HD, etc. for how to get unlimited of each of those. He can also get an infinite number of actions every round by granting himself a choker's quickness over and over Like i said, it's basically utilizing a loophole to replace every number on a character sheet with an infinity symbol, which has no practical purpose in the game. Also, the general conclusion on pun pun vs pun pun is that it's impossible. Because there's a HUGE number of abilities that let pun pun know the future, so pun pun basically knows everything that would ever happen, including the ascension of another pun pun, which he could stop before it happens. Basically the way to "win" in a pun pun duel is to be the first pun pun -
Discreet Room Seynir, Striax, & Umieri Finishing packing his things, Turjan stands up and puts his backpack on. "I'm certainly more than ready to get this adventure started!" he says as he heads towards the door. Working the mechanism, he slides open the stone door, and steps out through the opening.

Eerongal replied to Eerongal's topic in World's 17thShardest Dungeon
Yeah, as others say about it, it's basically "winning" at D&D -
I prefer to call it Aang's (that's his name, right? something like that) "new game+" Personally, i've never really watched the last airbender series (seen a few episodes here and there), but I know a few guys who watch it like crazy. I watched the rifftrax of the live action movie, though. It was a pretty good riff, i thoroughly enjoyed it.

So the Zaphod-Caine write up is wonderful. Would do douglas adams proud, even though zaphod (potentially) dies.

moved to the mistborn section. Also, there's a topic about this somewhere that you may be interested in reading if you look around a bit. Edit: here it is - twinborn combos

i think its a spin off or something of that series avatar: the last airbender, isnt it (legend or korra or something like that)? I know i've heard of it before, but im not 100% sure

Eerongal replied to Eerongal's topic in World's 17thShardest Dungeon
pun pun has every ability in the game at will, an infinite number of turns per round, arbitrarily high stats (he can boost them to whatever he wants at will for free), infinite reach across all planes of existence, every feat in the game, and he always goes first Basically, he laughs at the so-called "gods" in the game, because they can't even touch him Edit: also, if anyone really wants to know how it works, i can break it all down. It was basically done as a thought experiment (since such a build has no practical use in game) -

if i was gonna do that, i'd just use pun pun -
So....who wants to play some D&D?
Eerongal replied to Eerongal's topic in World's 17thShardest Dungeon
Well, it doesn't specifically say, since normally you can't really bottle it (or at least it doesnt give the rules for it), so that's something we can determine when you get access to spells that go over. Maybe for every 2D6 damage it deals you can bottle one bottle of acid or something (trying not to make it so that you can make a ton of them really fast, so I dont wanna go with for every 1D6 damage it would deal, because damage scales pretty quickly with many spells) Also, yeah, for us its aqua regia, i believe (so long as we're talking about the same thing. Highly corrosive acid that can melt the "royal" metals, right?) That's fine. -

Eerongal replied to Eerongal's topic in World's 17thShardest Dungeon
well we'll have to find out when/if it comes up Yeah, it's fine. Also, you could technically make it like you were bluffing to Murl instead, since he knows nothing about magic Yeah, acid splash isnt more than a usual vial, but I other, higher level acid spells. Most will generally deal quite a bite more damage than a vial of acid Well, the main problem with orb of force (and most of the orb spells, like orb of sound) is that conjurations spells specifically state that the magic for the spell exists only at the moment the spell is cast, so technically the magic for the spell should go away before its thrown (though people argue back and forth on this point, but i digress). Also, with orb of force specifically, since its conjuration, it means that what it conjures is "non-magical", because its just something mundane you pulled from somewhere magically. So you end up with a non-magical ball of force. The problem with this is that force is pure, raw, magical energy. So you end up with a non-magical ball of pure magical energy Like i said, there's arguments about these spells all over the internet (a few i've participated in back in the day on the wizard of the coasts forums), they can certainly make for an interesting read. -

If we get to somewhere where draconic (or any other language someone speaks others dont), basically only the characters who speak said language will be able to understand them. If it's the NPC, i'll maybe make up some works that sort of look like a language, so no one will really know what happened until it's shared, but if its a player character I'll just indicate which language they're speaking in, and any characters who speak that language will be able to understand them. Others who dont, will not, and will be required to roleplay as such. edit: so you want to replace the focus component with a similar regular material component? Any particular reason why, since a focus is generally superior (only ever need one)? I mean, i don't really see an issue with it, it's not like it fundamentally alters a spell in any way. Yeah, that section gets brought up a lot in the debates i've read about conjuration-based energy spells and if you can keep/store the things they make instead of using them for the spell's only purpose. I don't really have an issue with storing acid for later use from spells like acid splash, so long as they function as their mundane counter part (a vial of acid is usually going to be weaker than the actual spell cast, which is why i even usually let people store so many vials of it when they use it) The main argument for it not sticking around is that spells generally can only do what they specifically describe in their description and pretty much nothing else. Also, some conjuration spells get kinda weird if everything always sticks around afterwards (i'm looking at you orb of force ) -
Easy. Feruchemist. Being able to permanently store any information in our society is pretty much auto-win. Plus i would love to be able to hulk out on occasion. I'll also answer the previous one, as well. I would prefer to tell the truth but not be believed, because i all ready find it hard enough as is to bring myself to lie. Plus I don't care if people believe me or not, so long as i'm as straight and narrow as i can be (to my best knowledge). Would you rather travel to space or to the center of the earth (assuming enough technological ability for safe passage both back and forth)?

As you cast your spells, Turjan makes notes in his notebook, and you notice him mimicking some of the movements you make, before going back to writing in his notebook furiously. When you ask for questions, he says, "Would you be able to show me some of the movements again? Also, what language was that you were speaking? It's not one I am familiar with." Turjan looks at you and answers your question, "I can find and disable them. If anything would be considered my specialty, that would be it" (DM Talk: Unless anyone has any objections, we can go ahead and pass the night now, unless you guys want to continue anymore in character Q&A with the NPC. If so, disregard the next passage and continue, and I will remove it) The night passes uneventfully. You each take your turn at watch, but nothing more than maybe the occasional sound of footsteps of someone passing through the alleyway comes to your attention. By the end of the last watch, by your best guess estimate it should be just before daybreak. After giving the casters time to prepare themselves for the coming days, and for everyone to take in a hasty meal, you should now be within your window to catch the wagon in the alleyway.

Heh, i loved me some choose your own adventure books way back in the day. I had who knows how many of the original kind, and I even had all the super mario ones (yes these existed, and they were awesome) from the early 90's. I wonder if they still make these type of books or not...? I haven't seen them in forever. This has always been my not-so-subtle, not-exactly-diabolical plan to get my children into fantasy stuff, when i have kids.

to be fair, being a twilight fan is a pretty serious transgression. Props for reformation, though. Though, seriously, i have no issue with twilight when someone else reads it, so long as i'm not forced to read it in any capacity, and it doesn't get shoved down my throat. People have always had access to terrible literature anyways

So....who wants to play some D&D?
Eerongal replied to Eerongal's topic in World's 17thShardest Dungeon
Yeah, i believe that magic in all or most settings in D&D is the same or similar. That is, there's a sort of "magical fabric" that everything works off of, though i've never really looked too deeply in it, so someone can feel free to correct me. Though, we can go with this regardless, since its largely inconsequential which way we choose.
