  1. I haven’t had a chance to open my stuff at home yet, but I’m hoping I get some Cosmere stuff there. I did get two shirts (a Harry Potter one and a band one) $20, hobbles (it's for horses. It's a length of leather with a buckle that you can wrap around a horse's front legs so they can’t go very far when you can’t tie them. It's great), and a wild rag (a silk scarf that cowboys use). From the other side I got another shirt, some money, and some hair ties.

    Example of hobbles:

I’ll start trying to stay alive next round, probably. But my objective was to die before round 3 to prove my friends wrong. I therefore continue the aggressive strategy. Come at me.

I mean I did it in my first game, but it was bad luck instead of somebody killing me.

Aaaanyways, I feel it's most likely the vote manip was placed early in the round and never removed.

Ghanderflaffe’s making me nervous. Not in an Elim way, but in a likely to bandwagon kind of way. They asked for a vote count when there was one posted a few posts prior, which makes me think they’re likely skimming and may have missed some stuff. That said, last game I played with them, they didn’t vote much, so perhaps it won’t amount to anything. I expect Breaker to play this game like I played my first one, which will also make them a wild card. Both of your playstyles are perfectly valid by the way, they just make me feel less secure.

I remember reading it, I just forgot where it was and decided to be lazy about going back and looking for it.

I don’t have a ton to say yet. I’ve never been great at reads, especially c1. I’ve read through some posts and just don’t see anyone as much of an elim yet. I do kind of agree with the Ventyl being a bit sus, but at the same time I don’t feel like I’ve heard enough from them yet to decide.

  4. Alrighty! As I said, I’m trying something different this round. There is no need for anybody else to do this, it's mostly just to make it a little more fun. If you people don’t like it I won’t do it next round, but it sounded fun to me.

Ghanderflaffle stomps up onto the “stage,” which is actually just a bunch of boxes pushed together, and regards the people gathered here. “Man, I really need to do some renovations...” She thinks to herself as the various people turn towards the front.

“Welcome to the Cosmere Roast Battles! Thank you all for joining. Before we start, I need to lay down some ground rules. Number one, this is a neutral space. Nobody cares about what's happening on your home planets, keep the drama out of my rap battles.” She look towards a strange man in a blue uniform who's floating next to a tall, blond man with scars on his arms. “Number two, no excessive use of Investiture. There's too many types here for any showing off.” Ishefinally turn towards the Roshar crowd “And finally, keep the latest workings on Roshar out of all roasts. Thank you for your cooperation, and now we can being.”

Ok! This tournament will be run in three rounds. The first round will have four battles made of three competitors each. Each person will roast both of the other people in their round. The second and third rounds will be 1v1.

I am also establishing a new, not necessarily rule, but very strong suggestion this tournament and from now on. I ask that you please follow the entire tournament if you are able and vote on each battle. We never seem to have enough votes, especially in the later battles.

Another thing on voting, please don’t vote for yourself. I keep forgetting to tell you before the tournament starts, but this time I remembered so no excuses. :D

    Here's player list.

    Spoiler

The first battle will be between @Toaster Retribution (Nale) @Hentient (Silence) and @Hoiditthroughthegrapevine (Vyre). You will, as normal, have 3 days to write your roasts. I’m going to make it a little more specific this time, so you have 72 hours. So, your roasts are due on Sunday, December 27, at 12:00 PM (CST). Because of the holidays, if any of you three need this extended, let me know and I’ll be pretty flexible on it. Good luck!

The death pact is an idea proposed in QF48 (which had the same rule about ties). Ghander and I were both elims in QF48, so we were both secretly kind of in favor of it? But like. I kinda wanted my first elim game to last more than one day XD

Basically, the idea was that everyone would vote for one other person, so that there would be a tie between everyone and everyone would die. In that game, the GM had confirmed that if everyone died at the same time, the village would win. However, the obvious flaw with that was that the elims could just remove their votes last-minute, or vote-manip to safety. And then we would have won.

It was kinda fun to read through. That was a very successful elim game, nobody was overly suspicious of any of us until the end.

Aaanyways, this game I should probably say something. I’m not reading anybody as elim yet, but I’m keeping an eye on things and watching for any warning signs.

lmao that was quite a shock. Wasn't expecting a reset. :P

I still stand with what I said about there probably being three elims. I think that four would be too many with the possibility of a conversion.

I feel like we should still be planning on four so that we aren’t taken off guard if there are more than expected. That happened in QF48 and we (I was an elim that game) really used it to our advantage. So it would be better to overestimate than underestimate.

Also, I will miss most of the first half of next cycle, I’m going to be with family.

Cooper burst into the room, a stack of papers piled precariously in his arms. “Oh gosh golly everyone! I’m so sorry I’m late. I got lost and walked into the wrong meeting. This building is so confusing!” The young intern began passing pages around the room.

“I’m afraid I don’t know any of you very well. Perhaps-” he checked his notes “- Mr. Heklo could talk to me at some point? When you’re not busy of course. I don’t mean to be a bother, I’m just here to learn! Did everyone get their sheets of doodling paper? You could also make paper starships out of them. If you need any more, just wave me over! What are we voting for?”

Hey, all! Let me know if I’m using this new voting terminology correctly. I propose removing Snipexe. Snip has been exed. Snip.exe has stopped working. Nailed it.

Nailed it. All for the pun. (I’m guessing that's where the vote came from anyways.)

There's no rule in life that says how many years you have been alive means you should be dead. It's just that old age leads to the human body breaking down and getting deadly disease. "Old age" is not a cause of death. So another thing I'm wondering is what exactly is atium storing. Does it store the healing potential of your body, which is a major factor of old age? Does it also store how strong/weak your bones are, and how wrinkly your skin is? Wrinkly skin is due to decreased production of natural oils in your body, so the body's healing potential could be it.

This would make sense with what I have said, that "youth" that atium stores is actually the healing potential of the body, including increased productions of natural oils and immune system cells and such.

I can find the exact textual explanation in a few hours.

What I don't understand is how he was defeated. How did Vin have enough power to pull the bracers out of the Lord Ruler? How did the mists just give her enough power to Pull with such incredible strength to yank out such heavily invested metalminds?

The mists are Preservation, who is looking for someone to take the power and ascend. The times Vin uses the mists is when she doesn’t have the earring in, which is hemalurgic and of Ruin. The mists are the actual power of a Shard, while tLR's power is mostly just some very strong allomancy and feruchemy compounding at this point.

Age was so important for him to store because he was so old. Without compounding age he was too old for any human to continue living, which is why he aged incredibly quickly once the bracers were pulled away. He did store other things (probably anyways, I’m not sure if that's cannon. The other powers we see from him are purely allomantic) and we do see him using allomancy on Vin to Push on her.

  10. Welcome! I agree that Sanderson's books are fantastic, but him as a person is part of the reason why he's my favorite. He's so sweet and I love that he's such a storming nerd. You’ll fit right in here, but we need to do the inaugural question, who's your favorite character?

why can't he just finish the cosmere before working on other stuff? now i'm going to die of boredom for the next while

He writes better if he can jump between projects. And Lost Metal is Cosmere, it's the end of Mistborn era 2.
