What we learn about the people the protagonists meet in SP4
Oltux72 replied to Oltux72's topic in Cosmere Discussion
True. The crucial part is in Secret History, where Nazriloff confirms that Threnodites have a ritual for properly creating Cognitive Shadows. It looks to me like Shades are the result of something going wrong. Yet Nomad was almost eaten by a Shade, so we can assume that some exist in his time. -

Assuming There is only one script Honor did not put clear conditions on what you can mention For example, would you have wanted to mention that the Dawnshards are real to Gavilar? The Stormfather is required to send those messages and had decided to destroy the Everstorm. There is nothing to say that he liked the bond. The mystery is why the Stormfather did not know the reason for the Recreance. Presumably because he was bondless. Still, at least The Sibling should know. Yes, the oathpact was not a wise choice. Fundamentally we do not understand the reasoning behind it. For example Honor equipped the Heralds so suspiciously well for war that I have a hard time believing that he thought that the Heralds would keep their word. -
Roshar being cast back into the stone age multiple times total collapse on Painter's world The Evil Roughly half of that was mesolithic. Yet the Cosmere had something at 18th century levels when The Lord Ruler took over. Yet they are not all that advanced in that either. Fabrials on Roshar a few hundred years old at best. It does not have to be. The problem in the Cosmere is keeping worlds with perpendicularities isolated. As soon as you have a world with observation aircraft and stuff you are not going to hide it any longer. And you need them to be kept hidden on all such worlds. On Roshar it has happened. Do you see any way to keep Navani's Ardents from asking what'll happen if you walked off the map of Roshar?

I would guess the very opposite. It delivers enough Investiture to turn them into full Cognitive Shadows with memories and everything. Indeed, unexpected. But do you see a way around that conclusion? That I doubt. We have never seen what the Old Threnodites could do with their Shadows. -
Unless Virtuosity has already splintered herself, SP#3 will need to take place at least 1700 years in the future. 1700 years is a looong time. The western Roman Empire still existed. Whole civilizations rose and fell in that time. I must voice doubt that Era 4 can be more than a few hundred years after SA. The Cosmere already needs countless genocidal catastrophes and atrocities to explain its duration and slow technological development. SP#1 could be no later than 350 years after SA 5. But SP#3 has a very good chance of being the very latest book of the Cosmere.

Surely you do have a Connection to the ground of the planet you have lived and walked on your entire life? -

Is he talking about Aharietiam or the Recreance? That is the big question. Yes. And finally the Recreance makes sense. They could not release her because that would have been even worse. Yet it leaves an even bigger question. Why did they not document that and leave a big, fat warning with the Spren in Shadesmar? Because the humans betrayed Odium. He was their god. Because Jezrien did not go to Braize. All you need to do is watch the Honorblades. Jezrien's Blade did not dematerialize. Taln's did. So the Blade of the Herald dieing that day vanished. -
Art only attracted the spirits. It took a clear command to make them change. That is not different from Awakening or Soulcasting. While Painter simply depicted the form to be reached. You could argue that it just was a visual Command, but other than the medium not different from Awakening.

The spren are unchanging. That means their attitudes are constant. But they can learn. That means that they can be flexible in the way they deem best to attain a constant goal. -
That is the unrealistically benign explanation. There is a far more plausible explanation. The Lumarans did not develop extremely slowly. They developed twice. The arrival of the aethers spored them back to the stone age. They have redeveloped the technology we saw. Yet another genocide.

Then why does Hoid still wear that uniform? Or does he? Is the picture Sigzil sees real or can Hoid choose anything he wants and the uniform is meant to send a message? And this being centuries in the future how can he expect to see Kaladin?

In the last spoiler stream Brandon said something extremely important: All three secret projects are in the future of the Cosmere relative to Stormlight Archive. This obviously has profound implications for the Iriali question.
-
I think Sigzil already gave the answer and Brandon hinted at it in the last spoiler session. There are no Shades. Why? The Sun is highly Invested. It allows them to turn into proper Cognitive Shadows.

What's your favorite through least favorite secret project?

Yet they are not random. So far we have 8 answers. SP#1 is the mediocre book. For 7 of 8 it is on position 2 or 3. SP#2 is the polarizing book. For 7 of 8 it is either the best or the worst. -

If I may ask, why? If you go by that standard aren't aethers, who are ancient entities, a larger secret? What? If he had fled, I'd understand. But that is specifically what he did not. -
More like Dakhor. Using death and torture as a key is an established method in the Cosmere. Hemalurgy is using its target's Investiture. These executions would clearly not do so.

#2 - just too good a combinatin of execution and idea #1 - a soft spot for aethers #3 - something really new #4 - sad and confusing -
The problem is that timing and placement of his emergence are too peculiar to be explaining by chance. Yet chance would be the result of the timing being explained by distance. You do not emerge by chance during an ongoing execution. In fact if you think this through, almost every place on that world would have been fatal within a few days, if it hadn't brought him into contact with people. He wouldn't outrun the sun on foot, assuming he'd know that he has to try, and dayside would have been fatal.

The Unmade seem to have their own tap to the spiritual realm. Amaram did not need Voidlight. Ba-Ado-Mishram powered a whole people. In theory probably so.
-
Do we have an idea when in the time line the book about Nicelle Sauvage is to be placed? Is the Ghastly Gondola an abbreviation of the climax or the beginning?
-
In that case Aux's question about oaths just makes no sense.
-
That would mean that a man who can fly let himself be dragged behind a hoverbike for multiple kilometers who can dissolve matter into dust let himself be bound and many other things. In addition as far as we know Yelig-Nar cannot turn into a multitool.
-
Is the solar system SP#4 is set in home to a Shard? Are the engines of the flying cities powered by Investiture harvested from the sun? Are the plants grown in the twilight native to the planet? Why can Sigzil and Dalinar speak without an accent, but Alik had one? Is Feruchemy inderior to Surgebinding in manipulating Connection? Where on the planet does the wood they use grown? Is the metal they use made by Arcana?
-
Or alternatively, Hoid had Sigzil use a Dawnshard as a weapon like Rosharans did in earlier Desolations. Somebody other than Hoid had to do it because Hoid cannot harm people.
