  1. Well, he does know about the possibility. And he does know about all ten Surges. But this rests on the assumption that this was Transportation, not something else or an innovation. How woud the Heralds know? If there were three Bond-Fused, the Heralds would have never met them at so low a number. The interesting question is that he should now know about all Forms of Power and the Unmade, as far as their capabilities are concerned.
  2. May I suggest you start a separate thread for this topic? It is quite interesting deserving more attention and is misplaced here.
  3. For all we know Restares does not exist and is a code name for a council running the organization.
  4. They did it for a very short trip from the platform to land and from a ship to land. Urithiru would be on the high seas. Now unless you want to take one of Navani's barges into Shedesmart, th You can't just get back. You must assume that a perpendicularity is observed and the Fused send a team. We will have to see whether spanreeds work in Shadesmar. If not, you will have to rely on prearranged transfer points and times.
  5. Why do they not switch over to Urithiru? Fourth Bridge is rather easy to immobilize, but to make it fall would be hard without destroying it.
  6. It took a year. In accumulated terms a lot happened, but it was a steady development and each unit of time little happened The density of events was low. It would have been many small episodes divided by a few weeks between each of them.
  7. Yes, it could, but you'd still need a ship to leave or return. And the Fused checked shipping even in Oathbringer The amount of your own food you can carry, if you really need to take everything on your back is surprisingly small. Human beings, especially if they need to expend energy by walking, eat a lot. And you cannot devote all your load to food. You need gem stones, your condenser and a few weapons, too. He is manifesting the ice used for condensing it, not the water itself. It means that only the spren of the Radiants on the trip can carry stuff because no others can come along. If that could be done Riino wouldn't be living out of cans.
  8. Yet this is extremely odd. Navani is using aluminium. The Azish know about it. Yet Kaladin does not identify it? He knows what the gem at the end does. The spears cannot be new. Yet the Windrunners have never captured one to give to Navani's people? What is wrong with them. They can't be so dense that they think a material that blocks Shard weapons is not important.
  9. Can we read this battle as squires just requiring any Windrunner Knight nearby? That is they are not Kaladin's personal squires, but those of the Windrunners?
  10. How? That would require his crusade. And that crusade is quite inconvinient for Dalinar. He is holding together a coaltion of formerly hostile members. For him to sponsor a purge among a government is exactly what he cannot afford to be seen doing. Can a Skybreaker hide his feelings? And does Nale care?
  11. Not all Skybreakers swear to Nale. Some follow other people, others follow an abstract principle. Sheer statistics make sure that some of them will not deem the Singer legitimate owners of Roshar. Some must just see them as escaped slaves to be returned to owners or their heirs or executed as rebels. Nale's attitude at least looks like that a Skybreaker must not attack another Skybreaker over judgements, only over actions. So they weren't eliminated right away. It's been a year. Where are they? Have they been killed in small clashes? Are they hiding away for a good moment to act? Are they waging guerilla war being reverse Robin Hoods hunting down escaped slaves? Are they waiting for Dalinar or a council of Knights Radiant to formally rescind the decision to abandon Urithiru?
  12. Dustbringers - are they uniform in attitude Skybreakers - they can't all follow Nale
  13. Well, we do have a voidbinding table. That suggests that voidbinding can be done by forming a bond with a voidspren and that there are voids corresponding to the Surges. In fact Renarin ssems to have traded a Surge for a "Void". In a very loose sense they are related in that Illumination and his "Void" are dealing in illusionary pictures. (In fact in terms of utility what he has is an improvement) And he certainly does not carry or consumes spheres of Voidlight. Furthermore (Scadrial)
  14. We are talking about a man how had a country conquered. Who had thousands slaughtered in his name, under whose banner a city was burned. A man who was ready to risk triggering an arcane catastrophe by mean he did not understand. May I suggest that we judge characters a bit more by their actions and less by their personal relations?
  15. Why not go to Urithiru with a northern detour? You can take Fourth Bridge out to sea and follow the coast west, forcing the Fused to venture out beyond the sight of land.
  16. Well, yes. But why? That would involve building a mechanism for that. And yet sooner or later you'd have to prove that both legs of the voyage are survivable even to people.
  17. Being buried alive by a Stoneward for the next millenia?
  18. Will there be a battle between champions? If so, when? It looks to me like Odium has every incentive to avoid that. Looking at the structure of the Stormlight Archive it looks to me like the end of SA5 will be a truce. Odium really has no problem with waitin ten years and build up a perfect champion in that time or look for a way to get out of the battle. And he can really do a lot of damage on Roshar to make the coalition agree.
  19. But Gavilar kept it together. The Blackthorn would have kept them together with fear only. It would last one generation. Gavilar gave them something common to look up to. Is a Shard power? Or do you make yourself a servant to a gigantic inhuman metaphysic entity? It is not clear how Gavilar would see that. Or Dalinar for that matter.
  20. Well, Team Odium has to be successful only once, while the Radiants need to fear an irreplacable loss every time. This is like a mine field. You already take an advantage from it, even if nobody is blown up. Your enemy needs to move more cautiously. He does not have to. You put people with spanreeds near potential targets. And a few random observation posts. And you put Screamers and Fused team into bases near but not in cities. You can let the Fourth Bridge strike as long as it cannot hide while fleeing. And that is where your Screamers come in.
  21. He does not have to. Fourth Bridge is a major fraction of the Radiants' power. They are going to go to important places, not just fly over occupied Alethkar except for testing purposes. Hence he'd send Screamers to important places. In addition a great part of the value of a flying barge is to serve as a mobile base. Hiding your base yet operating visible Windrunners or Skybreakers is not a very good option.
  22. You can visibly see red mists coming from a mere spanreed. Fourth Bridge weighs dozens of tons. It is going to alert every Screamer spren for miles around. Camouflaging it is, well, a wasted effort would be a polite understatement.
  23. If ... It is unclear what they are. In fact they may be Cognitive Shadows of Kandra. Or something else entirely.
  24. Gavilar, sent a box to Braize. It was hardly empty, at least not on the second try. And I think we must assume that he made multiple experiments, just to make sure the result is repeatable. He could have start with an animal or a captured animal spren. But while it is easy to see that a box vanishes and reappears, I doubt he would claim that it reached Braize and returned without evidence. So I see two possibilities, which are not mutually exclusive he captured a voidspren on Braize the box was crewed Now, he could have used a prisoner or a condemned man. But in the end the box was at least also intended for the Heralds. Thus the question arises. Did Gavilar have a facility for creating Cognitive Shadows? If so, did he use it and where are the results?
  25. Then why can you use spanreeds over considerable distances north and south?
