  1. Probably anybody without Plate. Turning your Blade into a shield is nice, but you are disarming yourself. Only Windrunners and Skybreakers won't do it. Imagine how hard it would be to hold a shield of any size against the wind while flying at such speeds. You likely need both hands to just hold your lance.
  2. Vasher is a treasonous man of little personal value, who does not deserve any admiration. A man who advocates censorship as a scholar and murders his wife and best friends is despicable.
  3. Or a simple copy from the US cover of The Way of Kings.
  4. Thinking of these things as contradictory is exectly the problem of anachronism. The best way to win a war is to make sure the chains of command are clearly defined and the order of succession is settled. They will not think of this as wanting and a highly desirable but basically optional possibility. Having an heir is a duty.
  5. No, there is a point where planning for an exceptional problem under exceptional circumstances just becomes a waste.
  6. These two are aristocrats trained from early childhood to think in dynastic terms. Every lighteyes will think that way. Rosharans are not Western individualist sharing western attitudes to marriage and romantic relations.
  7. Or the spear uses the technology of half-shards .At this point we lack information. Change the gem or exchange the spear. A weapon does not need to be perfect. Good enough will do.
  8. This is not the way a Rosharan aristocrat would think. You need an heir. Your brother known to be bonded to a corrupted spren is not an ideal fallback.
  9. Why? To be blunt, that statement looks false to me. It depends on the possible acceleration and the speed with which you can change your vector. But they change gravity. Your acceleration if you do a single lashing is uniform.
  10. I am afraid we have seen such technology on Roshar already twice when Elhokar had a fabrial developed to partially drain spheres for his party the weapon that killed Jezrien And it really isn't that advanced. You need to ram it into your victim (Scadrial)
  11. They are not flying. They are falling. In fact they would be a bit denser with armor, hence their terminal velocity increases. Are you suggesting that Windrunners lash only their bodies, not their equipment?
  12. By impaling themselves? I suppose this is theoretically possile, but not a long term viable tactic. How many Windrunners will one Fused kill? One ot two?
  13. They can shape stone. Build subways.
  14. Hence the option of nicrosil, which allows other forms of storing Investiture. The Investiture ends up in the gem. Why else would it light up when the spear is in actual use? In that sense it is like the weapon Jezrien was killed with. That was yellow, but we might be looking at an alloy, even only just to save on a precious resource.
  15. Chasmfiends (and skyeels) have their spren outside their bodies, not in their gem hearts. Shallan and Kaladin definitely saw them outside of a living chasmfiend and noted that they are the same type generally observed with skyeels. These animals are not organic fabrials. They must be using a primitive predecessor of the Nahel bond. In fact they likely have gemhearts for the very same reason the Knights Radiant are carrying spheres. They need a storage for Stormlight, which in the case of greatshells must last for a whole Weeping. Only Singers carry a spren in their gemheart.
  16. The Windrunners know these spears. That they should never, ever have captured one is quite unlikely. And that Rosharan scholars under these conditions would not consider and recognise aluminium is also unlikely. That makes me doubt the simplest explanation. Nicrosil, however, should be (Scadrial)
  17. Presumably by being highly invested with Stormlight or Voidlight. In other words (Scadrial) based on the theory that a Shard Blade will fail against highly invested objects. And again we know that (Scadrial)
  18. Imagine yourself holding a spear against the wind a passage at the terminal velocity human beings fall with with one hand. And you wouldn't just need to hold it. You'd need to swing it and that in 3D.
  19. Radiant will not let a traitor get away. She may be a problem when Veil proceeds to eliminate all witnesses, who have seen a living Blade being used.. Well, there is a war going on. We have no idea how many fights she has been in. In this case she is. Arresting the head of Sadeas inside her own war camp is not a practical proposition. She will bring guards. And you really do not want Alethi fighting Alethi, which is what would happen if Adolin came onto the scene. Nor is the idea of Dalinar sending in a Knight Radiant arresting a High Prince an idea the other High Princes would stand for. And if you had her in court, then what? What evidence beyond witnesses working for the prosecution do you have? And do you really want to give somebody an opportunity in court to question Shallan's sanity? No, this is not a problem that needs a clever solution. This problem needs a ruthless solution.
  20. Well, he still kind of transformed it. The theory of evolution has not despite contemporary fears destroyed the Abrahamic religions. But why were the Voidbringers created? Or the Parshendi for that matter? And what about Cultivation? Have they learned that yet? The Eila stele talks about the state of affairs 6000 years ago. Yes, it is an issue. But one only rarified people will consider. You can always say that they go into some spiritual ideal of the Tranquiline Halls. Human beings are extremely good at finding rationalizations. The practical day-to-day operation of Vorinism is kind of strengthened. Voidbringers are an observable reality now and the devotionaries can realistically claim that they have been continuing the work of the Heralds. Many of their teachings, like the preponderance of lighteyes, have some basis in reality (it irks Kaladin - not a theologician). Even Jasnah and Dalinar will have to call the Knights who caused the Recreance vile traitors, if they wish to have any hope of attracting spren to bond.
  21. Embarrassing but not really a central part in their religion. And they already have the basic theological issue of monotheism, if he is allmighty, why the Desolations? Man always came from the Tranquiline halls. And invasions are not a necessarily negative thing to the Vorin mind. He always had adversaries in their religion. Yes, that is a problem of logic, but it is not a new problem. You are fulfilling Honor's last will, not that much of a problem. Much of their religion is confirmed. Honor was real The Heralds are real The Voidbringers are real (them showing up is a problem for modern Vorinism - not for fundamental theology) Becoming good at your job helps the war effort - the callings do have a rational base The big issue is Aharietiam. Do you see it as a betrayal, or as the Heralds doing what needed to be done to save Roshar from a worsening cycle of Desolations? Or both?
  22. Indeed. If they and the ship are in the same harbor. At a minimum you need as many Sleepless as there are plausible harbors to start an expedition to Aimia from. If so, who made the obstacles and will they redo them?
  23. If that were the case, the issue should not come unexpected and unexplained. As you can still back out before the 5th oath that failure should reassure sceptical spren.
  24. Those ships have too much draft to navigate on the Purelake.
  25. Executing a traitor under war time conditions while being kidnapped. What else is she supposed to do? Arrest a Highprincess in her own war camp?
