  1. An odd choice given that both are techniques available to anyone rather than exclusive powers. I guess the question is what abilities would you try to gain through Hemalurgy.
  2. I'll break it down by planet. Maybe Raoden? It's been 1000ish years since Elantris and a lot could have happened in that time. Need more info. Need another book from Sel... Kelsier doesn't count since he was a Shard for a bit. Vin and Saze are both out too for the same reason. I guess that makes Marsh the most influential Scadrian. Pretty sure Wax is working his way up the list though. An argument for Rashek could be made, but I feel that using the Well counts as being a Shard. Ishar seems like a pretty big deal, but its pretty much all Roshar related. Dalinar will be one of the most important characters in the Cosmere before his arc is over. Especially if he ends up having to work for Todium. Vasher brought Nightblood to Roshar, and that has turned out to be a pretty big deal. Actually now that I think about it, Nightblood is the most influential Nalthian (do sentient pieces of Investiture count?). Khriss and Naz are the only worldhoppers I've seen on page from their respective worlds, so they win by default for Taldain and Threnody.
  3. I'm not sure if you can actually store Breath or Stormlight in nicrosil. You could probably store the abilities that they grant, such as perfect pitch or instinctive Awakening or maybe even the healing from Stormlight, but I believe (and I could be wrong) that physical manifestations of Investiture (Breath, Light, Mist) aren't store able in a metalmind.
  4. I'm not entirely sure that F-iron works by increasing or decreasing gravity/mass. It seems like it's more perception based. When you tap iron you're making everything around you treat you as though you had a much higher inertia, but you aren't actually increasing your mass. This is why you're still able to move under your own strength while tapping, and why punching someone while tapping doesn't crush them like a bug. Therefore I think it would be highly unlikely that you could produce any gravitational anomaly, e.i. a black hole, by tapping iron.
  5. Those experiments have shown that we don’t know all the variables. There are innumerable examples of causality holding and a very small number of examples of causality “maybe” not holding.
  6. Delusion is the essence of existence. The idea that we are the masters of our own thoughts gives most people some measure of comfort and a sense of self determination. The truth is that physics rules the Universe and we are simply the sum of the fields that comprise us and the ones that make up our environment. sorry for double posting.
  7. An event appearing to be random is not the same as it actually being random. Just because we can’t explain it does not mean it cannot be explained.
  8. His reserves are gone in an instant because he is draining them as hard as he can. His pushing strength scales with his weight. If he were tapping his metalminds to use Alomancy he would not need to burn steel.
  9. Because he was an idiot. There's really no excuse for his poor showing in TFE. He is easily the laziest, dumbest, most arrogant and sloppy person in the Cosmere. It's honestly a shame that he got to go to the Beyond. He should have been trapped in the Well forever and slowly gone mad.
  10. Free will is a lie. Causality cannot be broken. That being said, future sight in the Cosmere seems to follow Dune rules, where the future is like a tree with each moment branching into infinity and the present being the trunk. The further up the tree you go, the more branches there are and the smaller they get. When someone looks at the tree, they inevitably change it by making choices based on what they see. This messes up what everyone else sees and causes a sort of feedback where the future is in flux because everyone that can see it is constantly changing it. With that in mind, the one that sees the furthest up the tree is the one with the most control. Hence Preservation beating Ruin and Honor/Cultivation beating Odium (so far).
  11. Kelsier wants to escape Scadrial so Hoid can beat the brakes off him again. He's a glutton for punishment.
  12. Aon Dor in combination with pretty much anything would be pretty cool. The only thing that comes close in my opinion would be F-zinc or F-steel, simply because they provide something that is, so far, unique in the Cosmere. Slowing down time or speeding yourself up are incredibly powerful abilities. I'll also add a shout out to double nicrosil. If you can get your hands on a tiny bit of an ability, you can keep it forever for the price of some Nickel, Chromium and Silicon.
  13. It seems to apply 1g of Rosharan gravity in a given direction. Presumably, the only reason that lashed objects do not continually accelerate in the books is that they are reaching terminal velocity. In the vacuum of space this would not be the case and interplanetary travel could be achieved in hours or days depending on the distance and the number of lashings used. This would likely be faster than the weeks long voyage through Shadesmar that would be required just to reach the edge of Roshar itself, since terminal velocity seems to also be a factor in the Cognitive Realm. As to the reference gravity for lashings, it seems to take into account your relative motion. The further you are from a massive object the less its gravity will affect you.
  14. It would take less than 4 hours to reach the moon at 1g.
  15. He who controls the Storm controls the Cosmere. The Light must flow.
  16. I guess I don’t pay much attention to fan chatter most of the time. I was hyped for this series so I was paying attention this time. As to your point about it not being 1 to 1 copy. It feels to me like someone just took the plot outline off Wikipedia and made a show out of it. It’s a little disappointing but like I said, I’ll just wait 20 year for someone else to acquire the right and actually make TWOT. On a side note, while trolling through the steaming pile of garbage that is the comments about the series I stumbled across the fact that Disney+ is making a Willow series. Seems like I’ll have all the fantasy TV I can ask for next year.
  17. Not loving it due to how hard it breaks with the source material. I’ll probably just watch it and treat it like it’s not TWOT, because it’s not bad television, it’s just not following the books. one thing that really tweaked me was the channeling. Overall pretty unhappy, but I’ll just accept it as a random fantasy series and wait 20 years for someone else to actually do TWOT. Also, what’s with all the nerd rage over the races of the characters? Who knew the fantasy genre had so many racist fans?
  18. Thaidakar is gonna swoop in and steal the Nightwatcher.

  20. I can see where you’re coming from, but I think Cruelty or Fear are no less divine than Hate or Destruction.
  21. I was fascinated by the idea that the Shards are grouped based on the Dawnshard that they relate to. To that end, I decided to group the Shards (and take a stab at identifying our two missing Shards and three unidentified Dawnshards). Here goes nothin. Change - This one is easy because it’s already in the text. It’s also easy because there are four obvious Shards to go with it. - Preservation: The lack of change. - Cultivation: Ordered change. - Whimsy: Chaotic change. - Ruin: Absolute change. Feel - I chose this because there are four Shards related to emotion. One of the Shards I assume exists because it is the complement of the idea represented by one of the existing Shards. - Devotion: Love. - Odium: Hate. - Valor: Bravery or Courage seem to fit this best. - Cowardice: One of our missing Shards presumably. Fear and Terror complete the idea of Valor in the same way that Preservation and Ruin are a complete idea. They aren’t opposites, but rather they’re complements to each other. This also fills the role of everyone’s favorite “Survival” Shard, as it would almost certainly be hiding from the others. Think - This could also be something like Reason, Learn or Know. - Invention: This one feels obvious for obvious reasons. - Endowment: The complement of Invention. Where Invention is starting with the pieces and working towards the whole. Endowment is starting with the whole and giving away the pieces. - Honor: The fundamental rules that govern all interactions. Navani showed us how Honor isn’t just about oaths, but also natural law. - Ambition: Honor’s complement. Where Honor is about oaths and bounds, Ambition is about striving to find new bounds. Rule - This could also be Master or Organize. - Dominion: The domain of any governing entity. I think of it as the Shard of Kings (or Emperors or Gods or God Emperors.. you get the point). - Autonomy: Dominion’s complement. It represents freedom. I think of it as the Shard of rebels, heroes (the Kelsier kind, not the Elend kind) and terrorists (the Kelsier kind or the Kelsier kind). - Mercy: This Shard is here because in order to take mercy on someone, you have have power over them. - Cruelty: As the natural complement to Mercy, I assume this is our second missing Shard. Similar to Mercy, you would have to have power over others in order to be cruel to them. I see Mercy/Cruelty as modifiers of Dominion/Autonomy. You can be a cruel king or a merciful one, just like you can be a cruel rebel or a merciful hero. Well that’s my list. Let me know what you guys think.
  22. I don't have my book on me, but I believe he touch each piece of cloth after sparing with Kal. This tells me he was gathering his Breath back up. As to the larger discussion. Could a metalborn kill a Spren with A-Chromium? If so, they could use A-Bronze to find the Radiant's Spren and then kill it with A-Chromium. Alternatively they could use an Ettmetal grenade charge with A-Chromium and throw it at the Radiant while they have their blade summoned.
  23. Thaidakar and Jasnah. She’s pragmatic to the point of being borderline psycho, he’s a full blown serial killer (justified). Neither would be in it for the sex. They would be in it for the challenge and the power. Also it would be one more thing for Hoid to mock Kel over. Leave a little “Hoid was here” mark behind on Jasnah.
  24. I'm surprised there hasn't been more talk of A-Chromium in this discussion. A Mistborn could completely wipe out an Awakeners breath in one touch. Also, A-Duralumin plus either steel or pewter is going to certainly result in a sticky pile of remains where the Awakener used to be. Bondsmith vs. Awakener. If what we saw from Ishar is any indication, a Bondsmith is one of the most dangerous fighters in the Cosmere, they can literally steal make/steal connections. Could a Bondsmith just take an Awakeners breath with a touch? What about taking control of Awakened objects? Bondsmiths went way up my list of "most powerful" people in the Cosmere. They're on a level with Elantrians and Fullborn IMO.
