Long Game 103: Eyes of Red and Blue
CadCom replied to DrakeMarshall's topic in Sanderson Elimination
Metorem has been panicked all morning. It has been a week since the Everstorm came, and he still had no answers. No amount of crunching the numbers, even looking retroactively, had provided any insight as to any indication of a storm coming from the west of all places. In just a few minutes he was scheduled to make an appearance and people wanted answers. Answers he didn't have. What was that storm? What caused it? Will it happen again? No metrics used to predict a high are able to be used to predict the Everstorm. And there's only been one in all of recorded history. But he was the stormwarden. His entire livelihood was on the line if he couldn't convince the populace that he was still trustworthy As Metorem hurriedly packed his day wares, and left his home, he noted his property was remarkably clean and undamaged compared to his neighbors who were still dealing with the aftermath of the everstorm. Something everyone always just considered an unbelievable streak of luck, but Metorem knew the real reason. Thank the Nightwatcher. --- 15 minutes later, Metorem found himself climbing the steps to the highest pedestal in the town center, where he knew a crowd of onlookers was waiting. "I find myself in a bizarre, nay, exuberocious position of answering questions and defending myself to a plethora of personages who disdainfully patronize my grandiose line of work. "Ye who just 10 days ago superciliously criticized me for trying to predict the future. I have words first for you. For the core of your culture and beliefs disregards the art of the stormwarden in negative light. Ye believe that I try to predict the future, which you look down on with voracitiousness. But you do not judge correctly. I do not seek to predict the future, rather my aspirations be to merely understand the future "Seeking to predict the future is an attempt to understand all causal effects. It is to seek to know what comes next with certainty. A stormwarden does not seek this. We merely seek to understand the patterns that govern our natural existence. To know what the trends are and to prepare ourselves and society for the most probable outcomes by unraveling the rules which dictate our climate. "Now that being said, indubitably many are here today to inquiesce of me why I gave no warning of the devistatingly incenduous Everstorm. "Firstly I want to emphasize no storm of this type hath ever even ventured to find a tittle of its way into our climactic annals. No record of a storm from the west has been spoken in the entiretousness of the grand history of our world. Where there is no trend there is no way to understand what is to come. "The Everstorm not only defied all of the physical realm, but also the essence of foresight itself. We study the unfolding of these events, kerythology, but it is feeble, feeble indeed to attempt to understand the causes. Numerology and pattern recognition will always fail to capture the chaos the shards. Odium, Honor, and Cultivation eternescently entwined in a dance of power, of lust, of control. Our miserable souls the pawns of their dance of destiny. "Thus, the Everstorm is not a mere tempest of the skies—it is a tempest of existence itself, and to predict it, we would need to foresee all things at once. I shall not ask for forgiveness, for there is no misstep here, only the recognition of our limits as we reach for the horizon of truth. In this, we are reminded that the future is a horizon we can never quite touch, only approach. "I know not whether this storm shall return, though I communicate via spanreed with my esteemed colleagues around Roshar, we seek to identify new trends, and receive word from those to the west should it return. The stormforsaken West. I end by reiterating my proclamations theme. Life is a tempest. I seek to understand the trends of this tempest, but I do not know the future. "I'll find myself enjoying a mid-afternoon meal at The Leaky Bucket should anyone seek additional clarity. I bid you all a good day." Metorem stepped down from his pedestal and went over to the leaky bucket for some lunch.- 128 replies

Long Game 103: Eyes of Red and Blue
CadCom replied to DrakeMarshall's topic in Sanderson Elimination
Oh no, is it ookla season again? Anyone want to remind me why this is a thing? I remember being ookla the duck a few years back Edit: Ok a few questions. Does chemoarish mean the kill can't be affected by transportation? Or just that someone will die, but that action may be redirected. Because I'm totally gonna try to coordinate that from my feeble villagers hut. I'll be metorem, a philosopher storm warden partly because the last sentence of the philosopher role made my brain hurt so it sounded fun. An in-universe question, since I haven't kept up since the third SA book came out. I get the impression from the game post, those that live in the Reshi sea don't feel too kindly towards bonding with spren, or maybe even spren in general. How do they feel about people who visit the night watcher? Do we know? I may use it for my RP, but still deciding. -

Last night, my dream was me sitting in front of my computer, actively playing Sanderson Elimination (17th shard's Mafia game). But everyone was commenting very quick, so there was constant action happening. I made a decision which opened a hidden mechanic, reviving my entire team, so we won at the last minute. I think it's the first dream where I just remember actively typing and reading. I've had other dreams where I'm working, but that's primarily talking in front of a computer, or with others. So it was an interesting dream. -

Caddor was Scadrian by blood. But his family had been travelled much before Settling in Roshar, before Caddor could even crawl. The only planet he had ever known was Roshar. Wonderful Roshar, with its predictable storm patterns. The Wonderful Purelake in his backyard. Caddors memories of running across the knee-deep waters growing up were the reason his loyalties lied with Roshar. Now he was the station captain of the Rosharan fleet's most prized vessel, the Fourth Bridge. Caddor knew the Bridge was almost Sentient. He felt the presence of it's intelligence since long before he was captain, when he first saw the ship on the day it left on its maiden voyage. It was the premier research and espionage vessel of any Rosharan nation. Likely because it was built through treaty from nearly every nation. A true reflection of the unity of Roshar and its influence from Cultivation and Honor against all other planets and shards. Caddor had a duty to this ship and its crew. And he had already let down the crew. Most of the senior officers had already been killed because of Caddor's lack of candor. Only him and the Lieutenant were left. And Caddor knew he would not be able to overpower the infiltrators from his homeworld. Caddor had to do what he could for his ship. That is why he couldn't voice his opinions as often about who he thought was the infiltrators. It was part of his duty to keep the ship running, and manage the crew. Caddor took to organizing the captains chambers, and finishing out his captains logs. "Captain's Log 17th day of Betab. I have failed to secure the ship. Despite having located the infiltrators, I was unable to dissuade my crew from rioting and sending crew members they deemed suspicious out the airlock. It seems our greatest weakness was exploited. The Scadrians knew our crew lacked basic communication and trust. Even as I was able to determine that Drake and The Unknown Order were the infiltrators, those Scadrians were able to convince that our own research officer was actually the Scadrian. Our mission is too critical to fall into the wrong hands, so I will be destroying all the research we've done on the asteroid field, as well as on... other elements critical to planetary security, as I would not want that information to fall into scadrian hands. In doing so, I am missing my final opportunity to negotiate the terms of our surrender. But this ship is too majestic to destroy, while the information too valuable to let fall into the wrong hands. While I have a duty to my remaining Lieutenant, Ash, my duty to the ship weighs more heavily on my heart. I can only hope that Ash, on my behalf, is able to find a method in saving our ship and remaining crew. I fear I will soon be captured, and this may be my last entry. I know not my fate. -Caddor, Station Captain, Fourth Bridge, Signing off." And with that, Caddor set fire to a pile of papers, computers, and other archives in the archives room, and walked out the door, accepting his fate, whatever that may be. ----- I am not going to be active at all next cycle. So I accept my fate, whatever that may be. I've decided the best thing I can do for myself, and my team this game, is to go out with a bit of flavor, that matches my role in the game, as the station captain. Not kidding, but this decision comes because I had a dream last night that I made this decision, and it opened a hidden mechanic that revived the crew. I realize that's obviously not going to happen. But it's obviously what my subconscious wanted to do, so I gotta go with it. Can't wait to get on in a few days to offer thoughts on gameplay in general. Love you all. We've got about 15 minutes until approximate Rollover time, from my calculations.

Hi, yes I'm here. So Here's where I'm at. I am looking at what I would do if I were an elim, and someone else were me. This has nothing to do with Kas's post, and only very little to do with Drake's post. This cycle, I have Voted Drake, then Ash, Then TUO, all within the first 25 hours, then back to Ash. I've seemed fickle, uncertain, and a bit whimsical. I've been pushed around by the whims of those who have a chance to win, unlike Ash who has remained firm in his choice. If I were an elim, looking at someone else in the same position, I would feel like of the 5 people left, That person is least deserving of a win. Everyone here is more deserving of a win than I am. I have considered your point, about being manipulated by drake. I don't feel as if I was any more influenced by drake than I was by you. IIRC, the vote count now is TUO (2): Xino, Ash Ash (2): CadCom, TUO Kas (1): Drake Drake, your post did not influence me that much to switch. I'd already been considering switching all afternoon in the back of my mind. Right now, with a tie, the win most likely goes to the Elims, unless they decide to dual again. I have made up my mind regarding the final resting place of my vote,

You got me before I signed off. If you confirm you're village right now, and not also deliberately manipulating me, I'll consider changing my vote. But I am turning off my phone immediately after hitting post. I'll wake up about 2 hours before rollover.

Ok. Sorry guys, I know I've flip flopped a lot this cycle. I want to be clear, this isn't because of my inability to make decisions or perform proper analysis. A reminder I had Drake and TUO pegged D3 (I'm a good detective, just not good at deciding between 2 well-deserving teams) Realistically, I should look for any way to win. It's not going to happen. We all know it. If I had noted at the beginning of the cycle that there was a possibility of moving the kingmaker position from The village to the elims, it would have been a possibility. But I noticed too late. I'm still proud of the game all the teams played, and think it all unfolded only during this cycle. I'm going to change my vote one last time to Ashbringer. (The previous Elim vote) @DrakeMarshall may want to move yours. I know I don't really need to pay attention in the night cycle if I did let the game go on. But for my sanity, I think I need to end the game now. Xino did excellent at pushing the game as far as they could, but Drake and TUO just outplayed everyone. I will be dropping off now, until the end of the cycle likely.

Guys, I think we (I) poked a sleeping bear. Sorry Kas, for breaking the game. But is it really a great game if the players don't try to break it? Alright. I think I'm going to finalize my vote by doing what would be best case scenario for the village, which is following the only path to victory, albeit however small and unlikely that path may be. Sorry Drake if you're silently judging me now, but I've decided, largely independently of Kas's rant, that in the spirit of the game, I need to do what I believe gives my team the best odds at victory. Even if the elim team truly played the best game. (IMO) Probably getting merged here, but just want to say while I empathize with the frustration, and feel the move was outside the normal scope of moves done in SE, when I saw Xinos request for a duel, I imagined it entirely as an RP duel, not to affect actions submitted behind the scenes. I do think you've rightfully played better than the village, as did the potential 4b, and I'm not handing over the victory because I think the 4b deserves it necessarily(not saying they don't), but because it's in the best interest of the village, assuming normal information levels.

@Kasimir can the elims self target with their elim kill? Also, canonically (not mechanically, but based on the actual story you've been building, what happens if the 4th Bridge/vs/elims win? (Basing my choice on what story I like better seems like a great idea) The irony is that the Drake initially pointed out that the village are now Kingmakers. But Xino now shows a route to make the elims Kingmakers. I think Ash caught on to this early on. But I've been dense this cycle. While other cycles I was more astute, like a bishop. or rook, this cycle I've definitely been a pawn. Now I'm stuck in a position trying to feel least like a pawn. TUO

That's a good point. Make the Elims the Kingmakers. I also watch the show Survivor And In that show, the person that plays the best often wins. That's probably you. But that person doesn't always win. Ashbringer. I see TUO is going to add in one last argument. If I vote with the Elims, I'll vote Ash. If I vote with Ash/Xino, I'll vote TUO to find out what he was before the game ends.

Platitudes. Plates and Cutlery. Ruffians, Thugs, The Plaaaague. No, seriously. Do you see any legitimate path for the village to win? I'm still considering switching my vote, I just want to vote in line with the team that I think deserves to win. My last act as a Station captain for my crew and my ship. Whoever takes over my beauty must be deserving.

Undoubtedly. Village lynched a V! Whistleblower. But I do think RBM made the right call in outing Drake, and Coffee made the right call outing drake and them as the Lieut's Doc mates. We just couldn't capitalize. @xinoehp512, seeing as I don't forsee any way to actually get TUO or Drake to self target, I do want to congratulate you on a game well played, and offer honorary 2nd place, on behalf of all the village. I totally have the authority to do so as the station captain. But then again, maybe I should reconsider. Pushing the game to another day cycle was a masterful stroke of genius, taking advantage of Drakes desire to Roleplay. @DrakeMarshall @The Unknown Order, don't you believe that should be rewarded?

This might not necessarily be true. If you can self target, we could vote one elim out today, and you could self target at night. If you can't self target, Does the 4b need to be alive to win? @Kasimir If so, then we could vot out Xino, then tonight, you could kill your teammate. Ok you're probably right. I don't see either of those happening... So here's what I'm left with. Do I choose to lose to someone who played an excellent elim game? Or do I choose to lose to someone who excellently played RP for an entire game, and still put themselves at a point where they are a cycle away from winning, just like the elims? Ash is leaning with Xino, presumably because Neutrals need to stick together. Xino needs me to vote with them to win, hence their vote remaining on Drake Elims will both need to vote someone, (Same person) If they want to win. And neither of them have cast a vote so far. Maybe I just have it out for yall No really, I'm amazed by how well you played. To be fair D2, I could have influenced the vote. I was on after xino, and actually active until the moment of rollover, with a vote ready to be placed in case someone else elected to play a last minute vote, and break the tie. But I did let it happen. The only reason I didn't vote for you D2, is because I didn't feel certain enough yet, and I wanted to have double vote for D3, when I would feel more certain about my vote. Aaaand Now, the elims have begun voting. To be fair, Xino has played an excellent game as well, including managing to convince Drake to not use all available actions last night and win. I'm kindof leaning toward kingmaking in favor of the elims, over 4B, as I feel they rightfully should have won last night So, for now, Ashbringer, Drake Could change before the day is over.
