I'm reading The Stormlight Archive for the first time
Invocation replied to Amira's topic in Stormlight Archive
That's a RAFO and a half. You will find out, but I will say nothing of when or how. -
I've always pictured it like the Olympic rings but mirrored over the line along the top three. Maybe even one side commonly black/outlined in white and one side white/outlined in black.

I don't think it directly does anything like that, but it would make it easier to have people listening to him, for those he can worm his way into.

Interesting idea that comes out of something this: if you could manipulate the Connection or Identity of a chunk of metal that's been shaped into multiple pieces of jewelry (a set of bracelets or piercings or something) into being Spiritually-considered still one piece of metal, would you be able to store and draw from any of those with the set having just one storage supply instead of a bunch of them?

I don't think that would work as easily as that, at least not with a normal soulstamp. You'd have to specifically design it (and discover the quirks of the MaiPon system necessary to make the design feasible) to be able to hold that kind of Investiture without obliterating itself I'm pretty sure, if for no other reason than the raw maximum Investiture capacity of the material. It might be able to be done if the Dor was restored into both the Spiritual Realm and given a Vessel who is intentionally intervening to try to make it work and/or supplying godmetal to use for the soulstamp (wait would the godmetal of that kind of restored Dor have regional alloys attuned to the regional magics?), or with a truly massive soulstamp. But honestly for all I know, with the right Connections, Intents, and material, it could work. Who knows how the Selish magics have progressed through all the time dilation stuff.

Why are people confused about Tal's honor blade?
Invocation replied to bmcclure7's topic in Stormlight Archive
Because he doesn't have the sword. He may or may not have had it at some point, but he does not have it anymore. -
I think it could be some combination of the fact that she's a Lightweaver, so he relates to her a bit more than he does Kaladin (even if his Yolish Lightweaving was not exactly the same as her Rosharan equivalent) and the fact that he has seen her as a child and an adult both.

Yeah, this is one of the things that came up after that happened in RoW. There have been a few questions to Brandon about it, but they've all been RAFO'd so far, with the caveat that we will get an answer at some point in the fifth book about it. I agree that Cultivation's plans are probably deeper than surface-level though.

It's possible Ashyn just has/had gas pockets naturally formed and whatever cataclysm happened ignited some, most, or all of those pockets and they've been big enough to just keep burning ever since. Like the Darvaza gas crater on a planetary scale.
-
Ashyn was very Earth-like, prior to it being completely turned upside down by unbound Surgebinding. Basically matched with what Shinovar is like. Whatever happened removed all but a few patches of fertile land to live and grow things on. If I have my guess about what happened, some storm system or natural effect grew massively out of control and someone tried to use Connection and either Division or Transformation to remove it, only for it to have an unanticipated effect and reduce them all to living on their new flying cities. This is also related to the sickness magic that Ashyn's survivors now use, since that was not their initial magic system. They might have really good astronomy as well, since reportedly they know about Roshar's existence in some capacity. The Coppermind page does a better job collating information than I do. You should check it out, if you haven't already: https://coppermind.net/wiki/Ashyn

skyward 4 progress bar enhancement!
Invocation replied to Doomstick's topic in General Brandon Discussion
Speak for yourself my friend, I really enjoy watching him play Elden Ring and answer random questions. Also, he's already one of the most transparent authors (at least that I've ever seen), so there's no real negative impact to letting the website lapse slightly while he's sending out updates multiple other times over. I'm going to refrain from restating the thing that the other two have already said about Brandon's usage of this forum, but the man and his team are extremely busy, in case you managed to miss that November this year is a major release date and that there are a whole jumble of books that all have to go through the process to be ready and able to release next year. Extending a little bit of leeway while they take care of the necessary bits is a small price to pay for keeping their attention where it matters most.- 576 replies

Why do you think Vivenna is after Zahel and Nightblood?
Invocation replied to Adamkarma's topic in Warbreaker
Because Nightblood is capable of drastically altering any planet he sets hilt on. That's not the kind of firepower you want out of capable hands, or at least out from beneath a very watchful eye. Vasher/Zahel just has a ton of knowledge that would be better to keep on Nalthis. I'm sure there are deeper reasons as well (Endowment may be using Nightblood as a cosmere-wide deterrent on invading Nalthis, for example), but even the shallow levels of reasoning are very solid footing. -
I just finished BoM and I’m screaming [SPOILERS]
Invocation replied to Friendly Cremling's topic in Mistborn
I'm willing to bet they're mostly in caves outside the Basin, since they fled light already in Era 1 Mistborn and were probably herded there by the kandra, explaining why they know about the mistwraiths but humans don't. -
Arguably Sadeas gave up a lot more than the 10 mil of the gemheart itself since he was also giving up his mercantile taxes from everything that would come from that gemheart as well. But yeah, it really puts the competition into proportion.

What stage of the DTM would Roshar be in?
Invocation replied to solarcat's topic in Stormlight Archive
I think they're talking about this: And honestly, I don't think this could apply at all to a lot of cosmere worlds, but Roshar especially. Their birth rate is abnormally decreased due to Investiture suffusion and their death rate seems far too variable to be relied upon for any sort of placement on this thing. Magitech being so common changes a lot of things as well. The cosmere might have their own version that you could probably make, but good luck fitting them anywhere on one built for our world. But if I had to pin them somewhere, it'd be stage 2 probably. -
Personally, I'm pretty sure if there ever was a Cognitive Shadow of Adonalsium that didn't proceed immediately to the Beyond, the newformed Shards would have killed it the moment they got their power.
-
Nah, he's dead. So yeah theoretically Adonalsium could have been alive if the Shatterers had a different way to do things, but they didn't and just outright killed the poor guy.
-
Honestly, I'm surprisingly okay with the one game being sci-fi-oriented-ish and the other being very much not that.
