I wanted to differentiate the cases when he is unwittingly and ... wittingly ... a tool of odium - as in if he is aware of Odium as a shard or not.

I beg to differ. On several points: * at some point, KR did seem like a huge organization - having oathgates all over the world, maybe a thousand members (~200 members confirmed from 2 orders), having their own city, etc. * they were not just special forces. They were also leading "normal", human armies. They were on the front lines because they could arrive quickly in a battle, but presumably the regular soldiers would follow * while doing one extraordinary action does not mean you will get a bond, those with bonds had to do at least one extraordinary thing to get it. Moreover, from a quote in a book, the ideals were a way of life. So it was not "one" action, but a recurring display, that would attract a spren. Training in Urithiru, like Dalinar was invited to do in his vision, would try shape character in a way that would ease attracting a bond. Of course, if you are the wrong material, no amount of "training" will make you a KR. * I can't see why other surgebinders won't exist outside the KR organization

New chapter unlocked for Steelhunt: WoR Ch. 2
marianmi replied to Shardlet's topic in Stormlight Archive
Shen is as far from the Parshendi as much as humans are. Plus, Eshonai and Dalinar don't need a mediator. I don't think the bond works the same way for humans and parshmen/parshendi. Why did Dalinar not see any parshmen in the KR ranks? -
If more than half of Endowment is in Returned, would getting the Divine Breath of all Return make you Endowment? I doubt it. Plus, sometimes you cannot get investiture, since investiture is given (not collected), or plain locked. You can't collect the Divine Breaths. You can't collect the seon's investiture. You can't even use the stormlight from Plates. So a different process would be involved, not just "collecting". I would say maybe like intended simultaneous actions from all splinters, which would of course result in the "death" of the splinters. This also would mean that if most of the power is locked in invested objects (not splinters), then it's impossible to put the shard back together. However, the answer to putting a shard back together is easy: call the borg. They know how to do it. Resistance is futile.

1) Prime is dead => there is a 1-week application process 2) After 1 week, the applications are gathered and then the viziers discuss who to choose. This can take any amount of time - 1 day or weeks. Two Primes murdered in one week => somehow, the first time there was not a 1-week application process. Or there was one 1 week, then the Prime was selected immediately, then killed immediately. I think there are 2 big possibilities: 1) Szeth was ordered to kill the Prime, then wait for re-election and kill the new Prime. He was in a hurry, having a big list and all, so he killed the new Prime immediately: 1 week passed, selection was instant, murder was done the same night. Szeth moves on. 2) A Prime has a government with a PM, when the prime dies the PM becomes the new Prime until election. So that "there is always a Prime". Szeth had both the Prime and the PM on his list, and killed them in a matter of days. Nevertheless, I would say that Szeth spent 1 week or a little over 1 week there, before moving on. (With the distinct possibility that he killed the Prime, went on to the next target, and killed the new Prime on his way back. Mr. T is smart lidat.)

Well, if you want to explain the ink loss with "ideal Cognitive body", go ahead. But I find the explanation is easy: getting the tatoo is basically piercing his skin, putting ink, and then letting the skin grow over the ink. With stormlight, he heals the piercing of his skin -- his skin is regenerated/grows from "under" the tatoo. Letting his tatoo heal naturally, w/o stormlight, would let him keep the tatoo afterwards, even when holding stormlight. (This looks to be me like it's not pewter-like, but it does not mean it's like gold. Unless you want to stretch it and say that natural healing = setting ideal cognitive body. But I don't think so. Getting cut by Shardblade has the same effect on him as on any other person. Stormlight would not heal that, and actually I bet Feruchemical gold won't heal that as well -- let's say Shardblade cuts through Cognitive as well).

As a side, I find Jasnah a very interesting character.More than Renarin (don't hate me ). And can't wait for viewpoints from her in WoR. She's very cunning, knowledgeable and a surgebinder! Do you realize what Jasnah can do if her spren is as talkative as Wyndle?! Researching the radiant powers + insight from her spren, I would say Jasnah could currently be more powerful and in control of her powers than anyone is giving her credit... Combined with her being an atheist going to see her beloved uncle that has visions from a dead Almighty and speaks the Dawnchant (which Navani said Jasnah would be the best to help in deciphering)... the possibilities... so exciting!

3) he heard the truth, and decided to tell everyone there were no visions... (even if they were). -- probably he was a tool of odium

In SA, your actions determines if you get investiture/magical powers. So, Renarin acting in a way that would help save the world, would result in attracting a spren. Unfortunately, I don't think we can have "normal" guys here doing extraordinary stuff. Demoux on Roshar would have magic.

Parshmen, not parshendi.

I think Honor was already dead by then. All clues point to the fact that at least one Vorin priest received the same/or similar visions as Dalinar. They have tried to "unite the world", and were defeated, interrogated, tortured by Sunmaker. Looks to be this was indeed a victory for Odium, but I think Honor was already dead.

I just have the feeling that the queen is working for/with Mr. T...

So why would they not do the same now? We're under attack, let the guards do their duty...

New chapter unlocked for Steelhunt: WoR Ch. 2
marianmi replied to Shardlet's topic in Stormlight Archive
Upvoted what I think are the main things to take from the chapter: * the epigram is def. of most interest. No, it has nothing to to with Eshonai. The parshendi are changing.... the chasmfiends are going on those plains to pupate, now the parshendi linger there... * Shen's attitude, very unparshmen-like -
Where is the quote from? Edit: nevermind

I think the result would be a certain type of anime where you have a vine that .... i'll stop now.

I can't believe http://www.17thshard.com/forum/topic/4516-new-info-renarins-spren/page-7#entry72669 did not get me any votes... i gave you the spoiler for the entire book, ppl! Well, my theory is that Renarin's spren is 100% of a certain shard. Maybe even Odium.

You forget that Szeth: * hates killing innocents, he only wants his target. he would be glad to be killed, but by his target * kills everyone who sees him surgebinding (he hated the king of jah kaved cause he forced him to kill all those witnesses there at the party) he always tries to get his target alone, to minimize casualties. Besides, in his entire fight with gavilar, where were the others? where was jasnah? where was navani? why did they not jump to help Gavilar then? And I don't see Szeth attacking like a bull, whoever is there. He will try to get Dalinar when he's alone. I don't doubt that whoever is with him will engage Szeth - the spearmen, Kaladin, Adolin, even the women. IF THEY ARE THERE. But since Szeth will try to avoid bloodshed I doubt he will go after Dalinar when he's with them. Btw, I wonder how a spearman will react to Szeth, given that they have seen Kaladin surgebinding.

Erm, international treaties? I am talking about the local law. I doubt you have a country where murder or assasination is not a criminal offence. If you find a country where murder is not an offence, then everyone would kill eachother for nothing, and soon you have an empty country If the azish people find Szeth, they will execute him for his (criminal) offence. He can tell them as much as he wants about he being not under their rule, about Mr. T or whatever... it does not matter If a foreigner comes to a country and commits an offence in that country, he is punished by that country's laws. And, why "war" crimes? Szeth did no war crimes. I really don't get your point. Edit: there might be some countries where the king/prime/whatever is above the law. But Szeth is not one of those. "Killing in the name of" will not get him off the hook. Maybe if Mr. T did the killings himself, and he would be above the law, he would be scot-free. But Szeth?! No.

Let's not forget Navani, who will try to protect her new found love, and will fight Szeth with her sneaky fabrials! Sadeas will hear the commotion, and join the fray, helping Szeth to get rid of the damnation Kholin once and for all. Elhokar will be close and join the fight, BS giving us a clear proof that he will be KR. I think Elhokar will be the one, in order to revenge his father, which will mortally would Szeth, discovering his radiantness in the process. Did I forget anyone? Oh yeah, Szeth will finally be resurrected by Lift, which happened to be there running away from Darkness. Only Darkness will be onto her, find a camp full of radiants, and start fighting everyone, helped by his surgebinding minions of course. Almost everyone dies. 'Dalinar Kholin! Dalinar Kholin! Your guards in Kholinar told me I will find you.... What in the name of Odium is going on here?! Nal? Where have you been all these years?! Nal, you piece of ****** !!!'. Yeah, Taln will join the fight too. And then everyone dies. The end. edit: @FeatherWriter: I think this one is much better, what do you think? The drama, the unfolding of events... I hate to praise myself, but it's just brilliant...

Why would Renarin be wearing his plate? Plates are not worn in camp usually. I highly doubt Renarin will start parading around in Plate on a daily basis... And w/o his plate, he's nothing to Szeth... And, you see Shallan ATTACKING a person right now? Summoning the blade? She did not even think of doing that when she was thinking she will get raped and killed... Edit: On the other hand, I liked how the flashbacks in Kaladin's story were related to his current situation. And hope it will be the same for Shallan...

Maybe that was true. But he failed. So we actually have to wait and see what he does about the incoming desolation. BTW, if I am not mistaken, the midnight essence vision was not actually taking place DURING a desolation. Maybe just before? Maybe after? So: * before: should we expect now to get corrupted spren, midnight essence and god knows that else attacking the countryside? * after: does that mean that pockes of enemy's forces remained after the desolation, and the KR spent their time until the day of recreance hunting them down? And if Alethela was the "border" that the KR were guarding, and we've seen midnight essence in Natanatan, does that mean that the enemy comes from the east? So the Shattered Plains would be the most likely place for an attack now?

No offence, but the entire Renarin + Shallan working together to kill Szeth is so... BAD... I am lacking words Sorry. We do have our duel on the cover... Szeth vs. Kaladin. Just like the previous cover showed Dalinar vs. Eshonai, I am more inclined to believe this duel will take place, but it will be of little consequence in the entire picture (like Dalinar vs. Eshnonai, the entire battle at the Tower was way more epic). So please let me hope for an epic battle, where Kaladin vs. Szeth is just the cherry on top.
