I personally don’t think the Shamanate can track honorblades. I think that the scene in WoK where Kelek slammed his honorblade down into a circle with the other 9 blades is Shinovar. I think there is a reason the Herald abandoned There blades after the last desolation. Perhaps their blades transfer them back to Damnation so they got rid of them . By abandoning them they willingly broke the bond of the blade. I Read a WoB that said that even if you broke a gemstone out of a shardblade a new person could not bond it until a new gem was placed inside and the old owner broke his or her bond. 9 Honorblades have been bonded with and by the Shin. I think Nale went to them and demanded his blade and they gave it up . The other 8 blades can be summoned back to Shinovar whenever they wish it. Taln can’t because it was never one of the nine. Szeth’s can’t because Szeth bonded his which was lost when he died. None of bridge 4 had the blade long enough to bond it . And if Moash carries it long enough he will bond it. The other 8 blades are bonded to Shamanate master. Since honorblade dont dissapate unless you will them Too , a Shamanate master can loan the blade out for a few days or weeks perhaps. I think Szeth was the master of Jezrien blade . So who has Taln blade ? The shin master would not have left a shardblade in place of an honorblade . They would have just taken it . Amaram was a son of honor and he was looking for Taln blade . When he went to talk to Taln who tried to kill him ? Iyatil was already waiting on him . She is the most likely thief and has the resources and guile to leave a shardblade in its place .. I apologize for my convoluted and twisted theory . I have trouble expressing my ideas p.s. Since Taln never willingly gave up his bond to his honorblade, whenever he wants it he can summon it back . It’s probably why he is not too concerned . That and he loony as bat right now!

So if this creates a hole can all shards see and utilize this hole? Does it require two or more spikes? Can Harmony see anyone spiked with any metal ? Or can Harmony see those spiked with metals he is familiar with. And can Autonomy( Trrell) only See People spike with his metal .This is way more complicated than at first glance.
-
Actually I didn’t dismiss it , I pointed out a flaw in your logic . Here Calderis said it only takes one spike to start communication. Above u said that as long as u have a spike you have a whole in your soul. Wax one spike is made of a metal known to Harmony. The Earing was made by killing someone . See attachment What I’m saying is the person who was killed to invest the Hemalurgic spike has a whole in their soul. Wax doesn’t . The spike is invested and now anyone who uses it can benifit from it without lasting damage to their spirit-web . Because the metal was known to Harmony and Wax was not trying to hide , communication was assured. Im going to agree with you on the case of Paalm . Since she has a part of her soul missing in her Original spikes she had from the Lord Ruler. Harmony should always be able to send a message . But for your theory to work in all circumstances , it has to function the same . U said it doesn’t matter if the spike is of Trellium. So let’s test that . If a trellium spike was made into a earring by killing John Doe . It would tear of a piece of John Doe spirit web forever damaging his soul . Now if Wax was put that earring in and want to talk to Harmony he could. If Wax got upset with Harmony and wanted to hide and or block communication could he do so ? I’m not trying to be argumentative . I really just Like discussing things with guys like Calderis and you who seem to have a firm grasp of how the mechanics work . I do look up things on WoB , but I don’t rely on it because I have seen Brandon contradict himself in WoB. I have also read something a member of his writing team wrote saying that WoB are his current theory , if at later times theory doesn’t fit he will change it in book and that is canon. I have also seen people drastically misinterpret WoB ‘s. So I prefer to talk to sage’s and ask ? So I can understand . I have only read era 2 once and I got the distinct impression Paalm could hide and only at times when she doing something truly devestating could Harmony even see her . Considering the fact the Set has other Kandra in their employ actively working against Harmony , I think I’m right . As a final point , what I’m trying to say is. The person who Invested the spike is damaged . We have seen several people use spikes temporarily that had no permanent damage and largely increased abilities . Their is a big difference in the investor , and the user in my opinion
-
Perhaps , Have you considered that wax one earring was made of a metal known to Harmony ? Have you considered that Wax wasn’t trying to obfuscate from Harmony ? So what would happen if Wax’s earring was made of Trellium and Wax actively wanted to hide from Harmony ? So my point is even though Paalm only had one spike , the one spike was made of an Unkowm Metal . This had the effect of making it impossible for Harmony to Dominate her . I also think if she wanted to hide and or block communication she could turn off the connection . Whereas if her. spike was made of steel or a metal known to Harmony, she could not obfuscate herself . Please give it a fair consideration before you dismiss it.

I love this board ! Since joining I have read some of the most logical , well thought out theories and discussions concerning the Cosmere. I’m not sure if this thread has ever been discussed ; my apologies if it has. But, I would like to have everyone take a second to list there favorite quips , jokes , one liners coming from support characters only! We spend so much time focusing on POV characters and greater Cosmere theories I feel we are ignoring the gold we have witnessed in Oathbringer. Outside of Wayne from Mistborn era 2 , Oathbringer has the strongest support character humor I have ever read in a fantasy series . Everyone from bridge 4 , Hoid, Nightblood, Rock and The Lopen ( I know they are bridge 4 but the need special mention ). What are your favorite words a support character has to say . Fan favorites won’t get you an upvote (thus no “ no mating or I am a stick “ ) those have been beaten into the ground. I Assure you Oathbringer is Full of 100 more less recognized quips that are just as good ! I’ll go first . My new fovorite line is from Teft. Dalinar Just checked Amaram and told him to basically shut up and follow orders in Thaylan . Teft eases up and says “ Permision to stab him a little Surrrrrr!” Its gold all day . I couldn’t stop laughing . Mostly because you really didn’t expect that from Teft ! What about you guys . What really made you appreciate Sanderson rich support cast ?

[OB] Nightblood’s Extra Oomph
SzethIsBadAsHell replied to TheHeadHancho's topic in Cosmere Discussion
Thanks it just made sense that it had to have some abilities like the Larkin that can eat any type of investiture . But , what makes sense to me , the wise think is crazy . Glad u enjoyed it -
Paalm was able to hide from Sazed because she only had one spike and it was made from an Unkown God Metal . We don’t know if it is Trelliuim or popular belief Autonomy God Metal . It takes 2 or more spikes for Sazed ( Harmony) to be able to view someone and/or communicate with them. We don’t know how many spikes Kelsier is using. We don’t know if he is using the ones Spook found belonging to the old Steel Inquisitors or if he has one Spike of Trellium , like Paalm. If he does have one spike he can hide from Harmony!

[OB] Cusicesh, the 3rd Bondsmith Spren?
SzethIsBadAsHell replied to Bigmikey357's topic in Stormlight Archive
I Have always felt the 3rd god spren was a mixture of Cultivation and Honor! I think the story of the Moon and the queen is a clue to this . I have read the theories that say each moon is a God . The green diety being cultivation and the blue diety being Honor. So what would happen if they had a child to lack a better term . Could that child be the queen that traded places for a day .? Did she give birth to the type 2 Aimians ? So many questions ?- 62 replies

[OB] Nightblood’s Extra Oomph
SzethIsBadAsHell replied to TheHeadHancho's topic in Cosmere Discussion
Ok the thing that is bothering me about normal awakened items ; Lifeless , Cloaks , and the stickman is that none of them spoke despite having sentience . None of them communicated telepathically ! When Shallan tried to soulcast the stick bead it spoke to her. This lets me deduce Two things : inanimate objects on Roshar that have a spren are used to communicating. And adding Investiture to an item here will have greater effects than awakening an item on Nalthis that never has seen itself as anything . Maybe I’m saying or explaining this wrong , but I strongly feel this is a clue . If there is no difference , then why don’t the lifeless speak , why doesn’t Vashur cloak talk, they have sentience . Why do all the items on Roshar argue back with Jasnah and Shallan when they try and soulcast them ? I think When Syl said everything has a spren , i think she was giving us a clue about Life on Roshar. Maybe it’s Cultivation influence On items from Roshar ; but I think she was telling the truth! -
[OB] Nightblood’s Extra Oomph
SzethIsBadAsHell replied to TheHeadHancho's topic in Cosmere Discussion
I’m not so sure . Lets look at a Lifeless ; she is essentially animating a corpse. The Corpse cannot speak . It follows simple commands etc etc . A sword was never alive , doesn’t have humonoid features or animal like features . There is no logical reason Nightblood should be able to speak unless she awakened something that was once alive . A huge clue to Nightblood. Creation is Shallan I am a stick moment! So yes I Believe. Nightblood is a sword that was forged on Roshar . It had a spren inside like all things from that planet , but it was a sub spren . Like the one that repeats I am a stick. It was taken back to Nalthis as a normal sword where Shashara invested it . To make more she only has to go get more normal weapons from Roshar and command them to destroy evil , and imagine them being able to cut thru anything but Aluminum . Aluminum is important because u need a way to stop the investiture drain of the weapon . -
[OB] what was the thing Dalinar summoned?
SzethIsBadAsHell replied to Zape's topic in Stormlight Archive
You are 100 percent right ! I am referring to the big battle . So that means @CalderisI owe you an apology ! And @RShara I won’t that argument long ago , I just had my facts wrong ! We had a debate where I said Dalinar forced the Stormfather into a blade, and you said that Stormfather was shocked at what Dalinar was doing at opening a perp. Those were two separate events . I just must of overlooked it in my rereads I’m with 200 percent @Calderis I think the Stormfather can say all day he won’t be a blade . If Dalinar really needs one , a blade he will become. It works off Perception . The Nahel Bond perceived Dalinar was in Danger and needed to get away . It Felt right to the bond. Dalinar was not using him to swing him about , which is technically what Dalinar agreed Too . So just Like Syl forced him to accept Kaladin words , Dalinar Made Stormfather get in line. I think Stormfather exaggerates his power in the bond. I bet he won’t admit it but he Has to do what Dalinar says period . He just doesn’t want Dalinar to know that . -
[OB] Nightblood’s Extra Oomph
SzethIsBadAsHell replied to TheHeadHancho's topic in Cosmere Discussion
I agree with Rshara the sword had to be able to be mass produced . There had to a danger of two many people having this that would make him kill his own wife (OB) spoilers Syl says to Kaladin everything has a spren ; even your spears and some of them are male and female ! We learned in OB that higher spren Like Syl are cognitive entities created by Investiture. We saw rock put out a snack of rocks for the honor spren and one spren ate the investiture We know Nightblood was fashioned after the Shardblades on Roshar . We know that items that are more human like or once lived are easier to awaken We know u have to be of the 9th heightening to awaken metal since it never lived . So how did she create Nightblood What if she didn’t awaken the sword , but the spren of the sword. She gave it investiture , a complex mental command to cut thru anything and draw out it’s investiture to feed itself. In doing so Shashara awakened the spren of the sword and told him his primary purpose was to destroy evil .She told him he could cut thru anything but Alumininum and that aluminun quelled his powers! The sword Awakened like Syl , not very smart at first . The sword is capable of growth but since it is a sub spren it can only comprehend so much. But like Syl it can talk to its user and others it seems interesting . -
[OB] what was the thing Dalinar summoned?
SzethIsBadAsHell replied to Zape's topic in Stormlight Archive
Ok I had this exact same argument with Rshara in another group ! I felt Dalinar tried to force the Stormfather into becoming a blade . It was Rshara so of course I lost . Dalaniar was no where near the oathgate . Teft came thru the Oathgate . Dalinar was by the physical side of Honor Perpindicularity . The spren of the gate said by Honor’s decree the gate was closed. Dalinar temporarily Ascended and took Honor place and opened the perpindicularity . Bonding the spiritual , cognitive , and physical realm together . I’m sure many will say he did not ascended.. Well in my defense I offer Odiums own words to Taravangion: “ I do not know what happened, Dalinar was not supposed to be able to Ascend. I Propose since Honor is dead and Dalinar being the only Bondsmith he can make deals on Honor behalf , Like agreeing to a contest of champions, opening or closing Honor perpindicularity , freeing Odium etc . When Dalinar makes these decisions on the behalf of the splinter of honor , He is Known as Unity. Go ahead and tear me. Apart now but it’s my two cents -

[OB] Nightblood’s Extra Oomph

Origins of Nightblood; Vashur came into the house after. 5 years and all he could think of is rest ! He sat a cage with a diminutive creature on the table. “ where have you been “a feminine Voice Called from the Shadows. Shashara came in and sat at the table staring at the creature. “I have been on planet Called Roshar , I was there for years learning all I could about Stormlight and Shardblades! During my whole time there I was able to sustain myself of stormlight , I didn’t have to harvest any Bio chroma. “Interesting Shashara said , so why the pet?” Vashur sighed , “ It feeds of any type of investiture , it’s like us , I wondered if we could figure out how it did it , perhaps we wouldn’t have to harvest breaths to survive” Sashara pondered this , “ should she tell Vasur about what she has been up to in his absence . Silverlight University was very informative . Her friend Khriss had told her about a macabre practice on Scadrial involving spiking creatures to steal there abilities ? No she thought this could wait she hadn’t seen her husband in 5 years..... a few weeks later the villagers brought a returned man to her house , he was confused and didn’t know what to do to survive ? An idea sprung up in Shashara mind “ come in sir I can help you” she gave him milk of the poppy so she could sleep as he lay on the table she pulled out a finely crafted sword and breathed in a the command she had been thinking of for years “ Destroy Evil” and released 1000 breaths . She immediately slammed the blade thru the Larkin and into the man chest and out the other side ... did she do it , did it work . Black smoke oozed from the blade . The Larkin and the man were no more, she slammed the blade into a sheeth as Vashur walked in . Husband I have just done something wonderful , and now I know how I’ll make more . Vashur looked for his larkin , for the. Returned man who the villagers told him arrived at his house , they were no more. Vashur drew his sword and plunged it into Shasara heart “ I can’t let you make more of these , I’m .... I’m sorry .. suddenly a voice popped in his head , hellloooooo! I’m Nightblood “ “ would you like to destroy some evil “ please don’t sue me I’m just having fun -

Cal you know I love your ideas man but I can think of one other person / entity / Shard that did it ! Autonomy/ Trell figured out a way to use Hemalurgy to spike Paalm with one spike. Kelsier (we suspect) figured out a way to connect his thread to a new body using Hemalurgy. She was one of the 5 scholars , while it may be improbable , one can’t say it’s impossible! Having said that , Your probably right . I wasn’t looking to be right , I was looking to maybe give u an idea to figure out How she. May have compounded the powers and made Nightblood so powerful. We see Vivienna sword , we know the process has been refined or perfected. Thing is Vivienna sword is no where on the power scale of Nightblood ! And we are speculating , but I think it’s a safe speculation as Vivienna draws her blade with no fear of death ! Of course we don’t know what her command is , it could be “protect me” for all we know . As a general rule in fantasy magic , the greater the cost to self , the more devestatinv the effect. Nightblood cost is enormous so I expect his effects to reflect that . Be that as it may I would love to know what she did , and we may never know! -
[OB] Nightblood’s Extra Oomph
SzethIsBadAsHell replied to TheHeadHancho's topic in Cosmere Discussion
I was directing that at you , that was where someone else posted 1000 breaths doesn’t seem like a lot to make Nightblood so devastating . At the time she did it ,she had to have had around 40k to 50 k Breath because she animated metal . Something else I want to touch on briefly , he said night blood is made of Atium , I highly doubt that , Nightblood is 5 to 6 ft long the. The amount of atium that would require is more than can be obtained . I think Nightblood his steel . His. Scabbard is aluminum and that is in wiki somewhere . Funny thing is the WoB that contradict each other saying alumnum will or won’t stop a shardblade . In Oathbringer we see a Fused steal Szeth scabbard and block Nightblood with it. So now we have in book proof that aluminum. Stops shard blades anyways, what do u think about the spike theory I brought up pancakes?? We know divine breath makes u instantly 5th heightening , so what I’m getting at is it possible to awaken a sword with 1000 breaths then compound it by spiking a return for his or her Divine breath ? Or do I just sound crazy ? -
(OB) spoilers Jasnah has thoughts of subjects like this in her head: I’m sure the assasins around here have heard of me and my reputations for discretion : I may have to hire a few Like in the old days !!! How can u not want to hear more about that !!! Dude I can’t wait

[OB] Nightblood’s Extra Oomph
SzethIsBadAsHell replied to TheHeadHancho's topic in Cosmere Discussion
Ok here it is Bio chromatic Breath is not a one for one exchange . Lifeless cost one breath , while the little stickman Vashur made at the begging of the story cost 25 breaths . Seems retarted right ! Sooo that can’t be the way it was created . The only other time we have ever seen magic get out of hand like this is on Scadrial when they blended 2 magic systems together and compounded the Magic’s . All gloves are off , gold compounding atium compounding , it just rediculous. We only have one Native magic system on Nalthis we know of! Bio chroma ..... but we do know of one form of magic that theoretically works anywhere! Hemalurgy !!! So what if she Spiked a return with Nightblood first ! Then awakened him ?? Or woulc she have to Awaken him fist then spike a return ! It’s not that complex of command because Nightblood command was Destroy Evil ! That’s the only words used . I think it’s more of what the awakener is thinking of at the time and how he wants the item to function that complexity comes in ? Anyways what do u think -

Hi guys , I have a theory about Nightblood i’d Like to share. I think it makes sense , it’s not based on a WoB Just my own onservations . You guys could probably iron out the finer points and make it into a better theory since I’m sure u know more than I . But I don’t want to offend anybody . Everyone in this group seems pretty open minded . My last group got super offended if someone suggested anything not sourced from a WoB so I thought I would ask before I throw it out there. -
fabrials [OB] Dalinar and the thrill; What’s next
SzethIsBadAsHell replied to SzethIsBadAsHell's topic in Stormlight Archive
I’m not so sure this would be seen a dishonorable . The Singers don’t want to fight . They want to be left alone. The Fused. Have to lie, coerce and pretty much threaten them. Look how the Singers from Thaylan city did not want to participate in the Battle . None of them are trained warriors. Most of the Fused See then with the upmost disdain. So Dalinar could stop a whole army from advancing by calming them all down , think of how many of their lives would be saved. It also works toward his goal of Uniting everyone against the Fused?!- 6 replies

sibling {OB} The 3rd so called Sibling
SzethIsBadAsHell replied to SzethIsBadAsHell's topic in Stormlight Archive
Well I had no idea you could use They/then to reference something in the Gender neutral . So appreciate that . I mean I thought about the fact that it could be something we have yet to see , I just didn’t think that was Sanderson style . He usually drops a Chekhov gun, foreshadowing , hints etc . I was also aware it was linked to Urithiru , that once it’s Bonded the city and wards will come alive . Another reason I thought it cusicesh , seemed like something that could power the irrigation and plumbing (to lack a better term), of the City so high up in the mountains- 15 replies

My Respect for Cultivation has just grew 1000 fold , that’s devious as hell. I like it , I believe it , I feel it . damnation Cal what u over there reading , you have an advanced copy of secret histories 2 or something , naw all teasing this is probably one of the most solid , lucid , and well thought out theories I have ever read .!!! Great job mam

So this is really bothering me . “There is … a third sibling. They are not with us. “In hiding?” No. Slumbering. “Tell me more.” No. “But—” No! Leave them alone. You hurt them enough.” Excerpt From Oathbringer Brandon Sanderson https://itunes.apple.com/us/book/oathbringer/id1198279804?mt=11 This material may be protected by copyright. When the Stormfather speaks of his 3rd sibling why does he use the Plural them ! I couldn’t come up with a explanation that made sense. Maybe the spren is similar to the Aimian type 2 that break apart into 1,000 cremlings . So then I consider this Cusicesh the Protector spren and I go with all these faces , he could be a them / perhaps I’ll go ask a sage : I get this #1 Questioner [PENDING REVIEW] Does Cusicesh the Protector have anything to do with the third Sibling at Urithiru? Brandon Sanderson [PENDING REVIEW] See, you gave me too much wiggle room there. Because "anything" is a really broad term. So I could say yes, but not in the way you're thinking. Questioner [PENDING REVIEW] Okay, hmm I have to rethink my theory then. Brandon Sanderson [PENDING REVIEW] I'll say probably not in the way you're thinking. Im totally lost again . This guy is perfect . So my question is does anybody have a theory as to who this 3rd Bondsmith spren is , and why did the Stormfather use “them” in reference ? Is there perhaps a type of spren that are rare and can join together to make a single entity . The final thing I have to offer is I think while the Nightwatcher is of Cultivation and the Stormfather is of Honor, I think this 3rd entity is part Cultivation part Honor. Any ideas? I’m on the verge of going Brandon Lied to us it Cusicesh , he just didn’t want us to figure it out!!!

They have been really secretive about Stonewardens. We have only seen one in a Vision Dalinar had . I am intrigued by them for this reason . Plus Taln held back the Desolation for 4,500 by hisself , that had to be a I’m a boss moment if I ever heard of one. The rest of the Heralds should really feel ashamed of themselves , some couldn’t even last 10 years . So yeah I’m with you on Taln!
