  1. My uncle was left handed as a child and his teacher and father forced him to write right-handed. He does so as an adult, but has a very unusual grip: instead of the the pencil being in a / position in his hand, he holds it \ as if it was in his left. I have no idea how he can see what he is writing, but it's natural to him at this point.
  2. Has there been any connections made between the Sons of Honor and the Envisagers? I'm wondering if maybe Galivar wasn't double dipping into multiple groups (though he seems rather antagonistic with the Ghostbloods). We know that Jasnah suffered some traumatic event as a child which was then swept under a rug. If she was showing signs of Radiance as child similar to how Shallan was, I could see Galivar trying to capitalize on that.
  3. I think Navani's airship designs are just a WIP application of their new techniques using fabrials (that floating platform thing). I think it's pretty normal for people to want flight technology. It's just a human thing? And there's something just super appealing about fantasy airship designs.
  4. I'm still mulling over/unhappy about the big revelation that broke up the old Knights Radiant. I can see it would be troubling to consider yourself an invader instead of defender, particularly for some of the orders. Because what was the point if that's really what it was all about? Was it just a gesture of repentence? The battle against the parshendi continued even without Radiants so it's not like they sacrificed their spren to achieve some tangible goal. I'm just hoping and assuming that there's another hidden bit that will be revealed later.
  5. Agree there's gotta be something there. We know via WoB that Mraize is native to Roshar, so not likely to be a Yolen connection. As far I know we have zero info on how old Mraize is....so anywhere between 30 and several thousand. But I don't think it's an actual connection between the two as much as it is that they give off the same vibe of "this person knows things others don't and doesn't fear what others do". Or....I think Hoid is using emotional allomancy a lot during his interactions with people. Maybe Mraize is as well and Shallan is sensing this on some level.
  6. It's so pretty! Like a mantis shrimp mixed with a peacock and a giraffe.
  7. There's things I'm "meh" about, like Eshonai flashbacks (I like Venli more) and romances. Things I 100% do not want though?.......deaths of certain characters. Kaladin and Adolin especially. I mean, much later on storywise I can handle it. But if Kaladin dies before finding all the ideals I will scream. The stuff that would really bother me are things that Sanderson doesn't do since he's a good writer. XD
  8. I wonder if this encounter with Nightblood spurred or inspired the creation of Jezrien's soul-death dagger. Possible they've never used it in the past because it's actually new "tech" in their war.
  9. I am rereading Oathbringer and in chapter 104 Navani is thinking to herself about Jasnah. "There was no arguing with Jasnah, any more than there was arguing with a boulder. You just stepped to the side and went around." This struck me since Wit had his whole metaphor about the 3 kinds of important men and how they deal with "boulder of time". Wonder if may be foreshadowing about Jasnah's upcoming rule of Alethkar. Or maybe a nod to Navani being that rare 3rd kind who knows how to study and nudge people subtly. Edit: The more I reread the more metaphors of boulders I find. Navani is described as one also, and Dalinar as being crushed under one.
  10. Howdy! I once went to apply for a (lousy) job and had to use their onsite computer. The keyboard had non functioning a, c, and t keys. Quickly realizing my typed in resume wasn't going to make any sense (my previous job experience was at a "Camp Alta", which translated to "Mp L") and not being able to find staff nearby, I decided I probably didn't want to work there and just left.
  11. Awesome art! Love the water lighting on her dress.
  12. So....I obviously do not want to distribute something I shouldn't, with a focus on the italiacs there. That being said, if someone where to happen to have a copy of the first 6 chapters of original the Liar of Partinel draft, are they, per Dragonsteel Ent, allowed to upload it to the 17th Shard? I don't know how pdf files are looked upon in general, let alone actual Dragonsteel property. I'm looking towards mods and admins for approval/denial of this.
  13. But if Liar's the prequel, then Hoid was Midius before he went by Cephandrius? So wouldn't Midius be his oldest known alias? And if it's a prequel, it seems even stranger that Ash name drops "Midius" in OB, since the Shards call him Cephandrius.
  14. Do the events of the Liar Partinel take place before of after the Shattering? It's been referred to as Hoid's origin story, but.....is that referring to like his youth pre-Shattering or his origin as a storyteller post-Shattering? One WoB says Cephandrius is the name closest to Hoid's real name, only a few decades off, and this is how the Shards refer to him. So I assumed this was his name during the events of the Shattering. Which makes it seem like he took the name Midius would be after the Shattering.
  15. Who Wants to Live Forever?
  16. We've seen the soul flames of people go out in Shadesmar and a corpse bead doesn't fall out or anything. Which is not to say that one couldn't develop later as the physical corpse developed a sense of self. I don't think a "conversation" could happen though, more like, "I am a body. I used to be warm, but now I'm cold. I will decompose.""
  17. *attempts to read* O_O *sets down wineglass and tries again* You know, disclaimer, I'm probably not the first person you want to respond to this. Sincere apologies. ........uhh...... Oh, ok got ya now. *nods nods* Graphs like......what kind of graphs? I mentally view them as spider webby, which I can compare easily to the mesh of a net.... Are you talking about DNA as a double helix? In which case, wouldn't it be a simple structure (2 strands) that folds up into something more elaborate looking (d-helix)? Instead of unfolding? So we're like, "Ah it's a triangle" but in fact it's like a super complex 3D pyramid thing. Which would actually fit what how we're not really able to view or understand the Spiritual Realm. Characters peek at it, but it has to be warped to make sense to human thinking. I have no idea what this is, so I looked it up on Wikipedia. I still have no idea what this is. It's very pretty though. While this math is all very much over my head, I admit I'm curious if perhaps there is a magical way for a facet of something to represent ALL facets of said thing. So perhaps what is done to one is reflected in all the other facets.
  18. Welp now I want a cosmere planet inhabited by sapient animals. Teenage Mutant Radiant Rabbits (infused by Stormlight, they fight crime and eat carrots on pizza) Sonic the Hemalurgic Hedgehog (steals your speed? GOTTA GO FAST)
  19. This made me have such a future flash vision of myself 20 to 30 years from now. Sitting with my reading glasses in a chair with extra lumbar support or grumpily resigning myself to listening to the audible version of Stormlight Book 10 (sorry book listeners, I'm sure they're great, I just hate books on tape).
  20. Or a Ryshadium. Giant red eyed crystallized doom horse. Just throwing this in, were Aesudan and Amaram fully bonded? During his fight with Kaladin, Amaram still had crystals popping of him occasionally and seemed to be slowly developing more and more abilities as the fight went on. I got the impression they weren't in Final Boss Form yet. I like the idea of one of the Heralds taking Yelig-nar. Or Ialai as someone mentioned. Sanderson is great at swinging unexpected minor characters back into the spotlight.
  21. Secret History: Secret History But in seriousness.... I'd love one called Journeys. It'd be a collection of very short stories telling various characters traveling, scenes cut from books for whatever reason. More of Shallan with Gaz n folks on route to the Shattered plains, Wit and Jasnah traveling then parting ways to Kholinar and the plains, Rock and the Horneaters leaving home until they meet Sadeas, etc. Guess it wouldn't be a novella really... Can you have a novella anthology lol?
  22. You're probably on the right track with that. I accomplished about half of my goals yesterday. I ate terribly, went to the gym, drank a lot of water, and stayed then stayed up late. Not sure where that puts me on "healthy".
  23. Health stuff overall. Eat healthier, exercise more, drink more water, get more sleep, get less stress.
  24. I lol'd because I got this mental image of Hoid with his cheeks stuffed with food to use later, like a chipmunk. Also thought about Lift and wonder if her converting food to stormlight is based on Scadrial's converting metals to investiture.
