Lim x->1 ((1/x) - 1)/(x-1) its -1, but I had to do the thing where you plug in 0.999 and 1.001. You should be able to do this algebraically with direct substitution and just moving stuff around, but for some reason I couldn’t get it. (the entire problem is just finding the derivative of f(x)=1/x at (1,1))

I have mild opinions I think one reason Brandon hasn’t written a lot of major LGBT characters is for realism. I know, talking about realism with regards to completely fictional worlds, but hear me out. LGBT people are a minority, having a ton of gay characters would feel forced and political. Not truly representation. It would feel like he’s just trying to pacify all the people pushing for more rep. If Brandon does anything right, it’s making his worlds feel real. He’s the worldbuilding king. He focuses everything on making sure the world stays true to itself. His priorities are worldbuilding first, then plot, then character. I actually have this problem with Allomancy in era 2, one of the very few glaring mistakes I feel he’s made. Allomancy’s supposed to be a lot rarer, but still almost all the main characters are Allomancers, and all the common ‘bad-guy henchmen’ are too. It takes me out of the story a little bit every time I notice it. Same thing would happen for me if all of a sudden there were a bunch more gay characters. I think this fact, (paired with the fact that writing a gay protagonist would be something Brandon has never done before, and something he has no experience with, so he probably feels like he’s unqualified to try and tackle this topic) is more than enough to justify him so far. Wishing for more representation in general is fine, saying that one particular author needs to change because you don’t think they’re doing it right, is not, especially when that author is doing pretty good already. I expect we’ll see plenty more gay characters as the cosmere goes on, but probably only where it feels realistic.

Do we have WOBs confirming these? The steelsight one seems iffy to me. It doesn’t feel like a new sense, it’s still just Sight, and your just seeing things other people can’t.

Oof, that’s pretty bad. If I were you, I’d tell your friend to get out of that relationship ASAP. It’s almost cliche how many ‘red flags’ there are, just from what you’ve told. -
Reviving this thread because I think personality types are super interesting took the test again today and got the same thing, INTP-T. A few of the numbers had jittered, but nothing major. If you haven’t taken this I recommend you do, it’s very insightful.

So my opinions might not be the most valid, as I only watched like.....7 minutes of this movie (my siblings had it on) but from the tiny bit I saw, I wasn’t impressed. I am a Sherlock Holmes die-hard fan, I’ve read every single one of the original stories by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle and loved them all. When I saw that Mycroft was apparently the ‘abusive guardian’ archetype I was actually upset. I still am. He isn’t an antagonist, he’s Sherlock’s brother for Pete’s sake. I hope that isn’t his entire character in that movie, that isn’t even remotely faithful to the originals. (Also, I’m like 99% certain Sherlock doesn’t have a sister at all in the originals, but it has been a few years so maybe I’m forgetting some off-hand mention. She definitely isn’t a character, if she even exists.) If they made Sherlock ‘too human’ and now they’re being sued, well, that’s on them. Sherlock isn’t human. He’s a drug-addict, a self-proclaimed sociopath, and a mad genius. He is anything but human. I was even mad at the show Sherlock with Benedict Cumberbatch for making him too human, and they still had him mostly insane. (Sherlock is still my favorite TV show of all time.) I wouldn’t expect a lawsuit like that to win, it is mildly ridiculous, but I’d still say they were wrong. That is, if they did, in fact, make him overly ‘human’.

(Dragging this thread out of inactivity because I like it) So why are we naturally scared of unnatural things? Like human shapes with slightly wrong proportions? Those things can’t possibly exist in real life, and if they did there’s no reason to believe they’d be dangerous.

Civ 6 is on sale for 30$ on Nintendo Switch, is it fun? Have any of you played it? Is it worth 30$? Normally it’s 60$. I’ve heard it’s good, but even half off, 30$ is a lot of money. Especially when the only source of income you have is from working a half-hour a day in the school cafeteria.
