That makes a lot of sense. Yeah, I can see those points. The question is, is Elhokar lying if he truly believes Sadeas is a good person, or does it only count as a lie if he deep down knows the truth, but only tells himself what he wants to believe.
-
Okay so we know that a cryptic would have bonded with Elhokar. We know that Pattern was attracted to Shallan, because of her lies. Therefore, what were Elhokar’s lies that his spren found appealing? I don’t really have any good ideas. I just thought of the question and then decided to start a thread about it. Maybe Elhokar knew he was an awful king and was lying to himself to make himself feel better. Okay that’s a pretty lame guess. I honestly can’t think of anything Elhokar kept hidden from Dalinar. I don’t know maybe the lies came before he was king.

[OB] Shallan mental health and Truths
Devout Pathian replied to Hsien99's topic in Stormlight Archive
I feel that Shallan and Adolin have a long way to go in their marriage, but I think they’ll stay married, because I think they do love each other and because I don’t think Sanderson will make two major characters get divorced. Being Mormon it’s not something he believes in unless it’s a really awful marriage with abuse going on or someone isn’t faithful to their spouse. And knowing Shallan and Adolin I don’t think they will have that type of marriage. They may have huge problems, but I can’t see them abusing the other one. Now I know Sanderson is willing to write about characters that don’t follow his beliefs, which is good, bcause the world is filled with all kinds of people. But by reading his books you can absolutely see that Sanderson cares about marriage, even with characters like Sabariel (sp) and his lady, who are great and I love them. Anyway, I don’t see a divorce happening, but you are welcome to disagree with me. Potentally one of them could remarry if the other were to die. Kind of like Dalinar and Navani. Now I have a lot to say about Shallan’s mental health. It drives me bonkers. It needs to get better in book 4. I know mental health problems take time to recover from, but for the sake of the readers it needs to happen soon. I liked Shallan a lot in book 1 and liked her more in book 2, but I don’t like her as much as more after OB. Right now, I wouldn’t care too much if she were to die. I want to care. I want to like her again like I used to. She’s a good character. -
I don’t agree with your entire post, but I do agree that SA has waht you call “death is cheap.” After reading Mistborn (where there is an important character that dies in all three books), I expect Sanderson to kill off important characters. I don’t necessarily want those characters to die, but I do feel that a book like SA gains from those deaths if done right. There are only two important characters whom I can think of who died: Eshonai and Elhokar. However, Eshonai death’s wasn’t inpactful for me. I was shocked she died. I thought that for sure she lived at the end of WoR, but her death in OB felt final until Jasnah’s death. Elhokar’s death was impactful, but not because he died and was out of the story, but because Kaladin was watching his friends kill each other. Wow that scene, I’m not sure how to describe it. I believe Kaladin will die at the end of book 5. It’s the best way for Sanderson to remove him as the major viewpoint character and it fits Kaladin’s personality where he tries to save everyone. Some day it going to kill him. That I hope is impactful. Just saying I don’t want SA to have deaths all over the place, but I do feel that the books could use a few more permanent ones.

It looks to me like spears and the topmost spear has a captured cloak on it. It doesn’t look like a flag, but the symbol definitely is important.

The Fantasy Book that started it all
Devout Pathian replied to Zelly's topic in Entertainment Discussion
Like @Aon Ati I also had parents read me. I don’t remember them all, but Narina and Harry Potter were part of it. My dad also read the Dragonlance Chronicles. Once I started reading I started with Inkheart. I have always been into fantasy and have kept reading it. Inkheart isn’t my favorite book anymore, but it’s what got me started so it will always have a place in my heart. I remember that for years people told me to read Sanderson and I finally did over this last summer. He was just as good as everyone said he was. -
I saw this somewhere else, but I don’t know where, so I can’t give the person credit. Now that Shallan has married Adolin, she is a Semi-Kholin.

Could a normal person be turned into a Kandra?
Devout Pathian replied to JoelyWoely's question in Cosmere Q&A
I don’t think so. I think it would more likely make then into a koloss, although they need four spikes. I beleive Harmony could make someone into a kandra by turing them into a mistwrath and then giving them two spikes. I don’t think other people should turn two people into more kandra. I bet if people wanted they could probably find a way to make more spikes and put them in mistwraths. However, someone else might have a better idea. -
Yes there any many moments in WoR when I wanted to strangle Kaladin, although I still like him.
-
Yes welcome to the crazy world of Sanderson nerds. @Snorkel is corrrect don’t eat the cookies unless you want bad things to happen to you. Also don’t give away your breath, unless of course you’re selling it. Then by all mean go for it. What’s you favorite book? I see that you like the cosmere, but have you read any of Sanderson’s other works. Again welcome to the Shard. It’s a great place.

Okay I agree you have a point. I just don’t remember much about the Shin invasions. I guess I just wasn’t intrested in it that much.
-
I think your theory might have some merit. There are absolutely things we don’t know about the Shin. I hope we learn more about them in Szeth’s book. I’m not so certian they are as good as they like to appear. They might well be stockpilling the shards. Something I think you are forgetting about it that we do know a time when people from Shinovar invaded the rest of Roshar. They even took it all over. When the humans came to Roshar the Dawnsingers gave them Shinovar, because that was where the humans could live with all their stange animals such as chickens. We know the humans eventually ventured out and fought the Dawnsingers conquering all of Roshar. I believe this is what people are refering to when they talk about the invasion from Shinovar.

(spoilers) Just finished reading Warbreaker and loved it!
Devout Pathian replied to Matt O's topic in Warbreaker
It is right now a stand alone novel, but Sanderson is planning at some point (who really knows when) to write a sequel, called Nightblood. Also some of the characters from Warbreaker appear in other cosmere books. I won’t give more detials in case people don’t want to know. https://coppermind.net/wiki/Nightblood_(book) -
Wasing the wish flowers realing. Handkerchief wasing giving. Here’s my lame attempt at High Imperial. I know this is an SA thread, but I had to give it a try. I don’t know why I kinda hate High Imperial.

Welcome to the 17th Shard offically. The Rithmitist is quite good, it’s the only non cosmere book that I’ve read. Again welcome. It’s always great to have other fans.
-
The answer: probably. But was it worth it? Absolutely! I liked it before, but after reading your reasons it became even better. Nightblood is so great. He (it not really sure or maybe even she? We really need a better pronoun for Nightblood.) doesn’t really understand things. Haha he is one of my favorite characters. I love him with Szeth.

[OB] Describe a Character in One Word
Devout Pathian replied to MistbornAlpaca's topic in Stormlight Archive
I get what you mean, Moash is something else, although I still like him in a strange way, because sometimes I just want to throttle him. I did check and yeah swearing isn’t allowed. It says anything above “crap” isn’t allowed. I could be wrong about this, but I think you can use the curse words from the books, so we could call Moash, the storming traitor. Hope this helps. EDIT: Also I love the Storm-depressed. Haha it’s so great. -
Pewter might be good for almost anything. Also zinc could help the judges in figure skating feel more impressed with your performance. Haha some people would think that’s cheating, but myself and Breeze would disagree.

[OB] Who’s your favourite of the three main POV characters?
Devout Pathian replied to ICanDream's topic in Stormlight Archive
Before OB, I would have probably picked Kaladin, even though he really annoyed me at parts in WoR. After reading OB, Dalinar is just the best. I like both Kaladin and Shallan, but I want to strangle both of them at different times. I loved Dalinar before OB, but seeing how awful he was in his backstory and how he changed was fantastic. I loved when he confronted Odium. It was so beautiful. It’s hard to describe why I like it so much, but I see that other people agree with me about that part. -
Okay I just found this thread, and I know it’s old, but I had to post on it, because Steris is awesome. I love how in Bands of Morning she makes the list of all the things that could possibly go wrong and then gives it to the hotel lady. Haha and there is even the potenial of Wax getting framed for murder. Steris is just great. I love how she plans and prepares for everything. She absolutly is my favorite character from Mistborn Era 2.

Don’t we all? Welcome! What’s you’re favorite book by Sanderson? Right now mine is Mistborn, but I have some more to read before I’m done.

Question about Vashar? [Warbreaker/Stormlight]
Devout Pathian replied to Devout Pathian's topic in Stormlight Archive
Okay thanks that makes more sense. I wonder how many breaths he’s got left? -
Okay, I know who Vashar is in Stormlight. I forgot his name, but I know he’s the grumpy guy who taught Adolin the sword as well as Kaladin. Anyway, I just finished Warbreaker last night. It was great. However, today I thought of something that I’m confused about. Okay so I read somewhere that Vashar went to Roshar, because it’s easeir to get stormlight than breaths, so this way he can keep living. That makes sense, but what does Vashar do during the weeping? It’s weeks long and halfway through all the spheres are dun. Where does he get the stormlight or breath to survive the last week or so of the weeping? We know he’s been on Roshar at least since Adolin was young and he taught him the sword.
